And for some reason so many countries feel compelled to use inches to measure TVs and other display devices. It pisses me off.
In my country TVs were always measured ( well at least when I was a kid ) in centimetres but in the past 5 - 10yrs everyone has started referring to them in inches.
In Japan, a country where the common person has no idea what an inch is and where a lot of TVs are manufactured, they still measure TVs etc. in inches.
I've heard the excuse that "Japan exports to the US" as the reason for measuring TVs in inches in Japan but that seems like a rather poor reason for advertising products in their local market in a measuring system no one understands.

I guess if someone wearing this device went to watch a movie they wouldn't be so concerned as to where they had been but rather were they would be going after having unwittingly pirated a movie.
Could you imagine being caught, with the evidence literally hanging around your neck but not even being able to remember having watched the movie in the first place. This thing sounds like a great idea.

After finally having gotten my hands on a Wii during Golden Week ive definalty spent my fair share of time on Elebits, Kororinpa, Hajimete No Wii & Paper Mario but as much as ive been loving it I have been feeling a little concerned about the Wii's staying power for the future as ive found, especialy when playing Elebits, that when a lot is happening on screen the game tends to slow down & feel jumpy a bit.

Usually the first batch of games on a new console dont realy show of the full power of the platform but im feeling that maybe the Wii has already reached its hardware limits. If this is the case should we expect an updated version comming in the near future if its sales drop to keep it in top spot or will game producers learn to work with the platforms limitations better.

There's that "Wii" game where you go out and try to buy a Wii. It was relatively easy for the first level
I still havnt managed to pass the fist level. I live in Japan & I tried hard durning the opening round to get my hands on a Wii but the opening day was also the closing day for getting past the first level.

Famitsu parent company Enterbrain has figures showing that Nintendo sold 405,000 Wii units last month, while Sony sold 148,000 units of the PS3.
I take it the last month means Jan. ?! I wounder who these lucky people were who managed to get a Wii in Japan last month since all the shops ive been to here have had signs up saying we have no details as to when the Wii will be back on store shelves. Its a pity the PS3 isnt more appealing as they are on every stores shelves just sitting there with their prices dropping. ( I think the price has droped, I havnt paid it that much attention. )

No, ive far from lost interest. The problem is I have way to much interest and no way to quench my thirst for this great looking device thats being dangled in front of my face everywhere I look.

From what ive seen Nintendo has done a fantastic job on this & I totally applaud them I just wish (probably as they do) they had been able to produce a high enough volume of their product to meet the demand they have drummed up.

As soon as I know when the Wii will be available again in the shops I will be shore to be there with everyone else trying to get my hands on one again.

BTW does anyone know if Wii games bought from other countries will run on the Wii ? I bought a PS2 a while back but any game that looks like fun ( such as rpgs ) are only available to me in Japanese & as I cant understand Japanese well enough to play these games & I cant buy foreign games as they wont play on my Japanese bought console I have a very limited number of games to choice from.

  8. Not so painless launch on The Wii Launches in Japan · · Score: 0
The stores here in Japan were well organized with the Wii launch, most of the stores I went to had signs saying about selling the machines to preferred customers which meant they were running a lottery system. You went to the counter & filled in a small form & they would give you a small receipt with a number on it. On launch day you had to go to the store & see if your number had been drawn.

On the lists I saw in my area there were only about 100 or so numbers listed so as you can imagine there were a lot of people walking up to the posting & walking away looking less than happy. Some walked over to check out the Wii game offerings that they now wouldnt be able to even consider purchasing until who knows when, others checked out the PS2 games & consoles as thats the only choice left to them but most of them just seemed to keep on walking straight to the exit (myself included).

Of my friends no one managed to get a Wii & when you ask the shop staff when the Wii will be available they just replay they dont know. This feels like what happened a while back with the DS which I had some interest in but it took so long for them to become available in the shops that I eventually lost any interest in owning one.

The thing thats driving me the most crazy is that Nintendos been advertising this thing like crazy for weeks now ( with no sign of letting up ) so theres a huge demand for it but potentially zero availability. As you could guess there are quite a few people pissed off that they wont be able to enjoy playing Wii during their winter vacations or be able to buy a Wii for their kids for xmas.

I think it means that they wont waist time trying to create new interesting games they will just produce remakes of old games with flasher special effects & just hope no one (ie the kids) remembers the original versions. Then they will release the special edition, the colectors edition, the exteneded edition & so on. And finaly when they dont make as much money as they had projected they will blame pirating for all their shortcommings.
