About time, someone tried to invest in recycling, or cleaning of our planet, good for you XPrize, just wish many more companies were like you to help fund development of things this planet really needs.
What a waste of a story on/., we need more technology more, science more IT, not more stupidity. Revoke that publisher's license to post stories please.
1) If I steal a pink BMW car, I will repaint it before selling it on the black market 2) If you have a pink car, chances are you do not know class, so chances are you will not find any real classy cars totally pink, so not worth stealing. 3) If you really that into pink, you would go to a pink car convention, where of the 1 million pink cars, a few might get stolen, but going into a small area where there are.00001% of the car population with pink cars, your stats will be off the mark, really...
I think with the level of stupidity of this article, it must have been just to see how many people were stupid enough to reply, of course I was, so don't be like me and just avoid this page altogether!
when are we going to have access to this technology? It is always nice to hear new breakthroughs, but governments always control access to these new technologies, and make it 5 to 10 years before we see any of it, while somewhere like japan, you already have it available...
I am not saying it is right, although I have heard of this several times over, so if I were to be a smart person, I might want to review all visible pictures on the internet before going for that all important job interview, and make sure none of the p0rn links to my name have anything to with me either...just google yourself really!
Did you read the article? It says people who had access to sensitive materials or information that could be at risk to get blackmailed etc...
If your telephone repairman and have the access codes to get through only the first gate, it is still the first gate...so guess what you are now at risk of being blackmailed to keep your job, just hand over the codes....
With all the video games out there and tvshows(24) that play this exact situation up so many times, you would think this common sense, no? It is not just about access to nuclear weapons blueprints, it's access to get into a section that has a hole into the next section, etc, etc...
>It is odd that in Japan, land of world-leading minimalism Are you serious....? When was the last time you went down any main roads in the middle of downtown tokyo, the ads all over the place make new york look like the middle of a tiny village. I think because japanese are used to seeing so much publicity, they actually have trained eyes to see so many ads all at once, and are used to it, so that a website with pages like these do not really hamper them much, but for our less trained eyes,...ouch!
This is typical banking behavior when it comes to investigating fraud, they can not really prove THE CLIENT's COMPUTER was at fault... so once they see the problem being fraud in another country when the person is still here, they just block the card and refund whatever money they lost, and still the banks are showing all time high profit margins....go figure....make's you wonder just how much they really need to up their services charged for transactions all the time....!
>who was denied a teaching certificate on the basis of a single photo on MySpace Could he not just log on and remove any damaging photos from his myspace before going for that all important work interview??? This sounds more like some noob not realizing the web is public domain.
If he really wanted the job, he could have changed temporarily his myspace to a marketing ad for the company he is trying to get into...show them he really is serious about getting the job.
All I am saying is we say these things with supposed certainty, when none of these scientists have even come close to the sun to be able to figure out what it consists of, and if there is an unknown element that helps fuel its light/fire, that we still are not knowing...and of course when I mention hey this guy obviously is wrong because here is a contradiction to what he was saying, and we should review his whole theory, because it is just a theory...with a fine tooth comb, everyone jumps on the bashing band wagon....
the universe is limitless because the church knows nothing about it, so because of its lack of knowledge, the universe is like god and god is limitless so therefor so is his universe we live in, but I believe in science so I don't buy this either...
>this has not been demonstrated to be wrong All I am saying is we say these things with supposed certainty, when none of these scientists have even come close to the sun to be able to figure out what it consists of, and if there is an unknown element that helps fuel its light/fire, that we still are not knowing...and of course when I mention hey this guy obviously is wrong because here is a contradiction to what he was saying, and we should review his whole theory, because it is just a theory...with a fine tooth comb, everyone jumps on the bashing band wagon....
>The ultimate authority is the People, which is above all governments. So you are saying if tomorrow everyone in china is open to having sex with a 4 year old, then the government should bow down and allow that to become ok within their law system, I don't think I quite know what to think of your proposal, although if we were all able to be like that, I think we could all agree what everyone wants to do to those bastards at BP.....too bad that isn't legal either...
>Stricter regulation will cost AMERICAN JOBS Hate to tell you that most these jobs are already outsourced...probably even why they had so many problems to begin with...sheesh!
>It will raise OIL PRICES I think now that people see there really is NO shortage of oil as previous claims (like jewish community buying all the diamonds up and saying they are expensive because they are rare is BS, they control the market), we now also know how much oil was spewing out of a well that was deemed non profitable at 100,000 barrels a day...IMAGINE THAT! maybe people would consider boycotting oil for a few months and teach the oil companies a lesson...
>The industry can self-regulate No it can't, we the masses that are told what we want, by good marketing schemes making you eat up what ever info they want you to know. It still ends up being the rich few that control those industries, and ultimately controls the government. Self regulate would imply that the laws of supply and demand help set pricing fluctuations, and even demand....based on the people's demands.
If the people are told to demand this much oil, and then demand it, then whoever told them to demand it regulates it, and those people's greed knows no bounds, beyond any supposed self imposed limitation....self regulation would mean that if quantities are low, you reinvest into your infrastructure to help your own production last longer, or find new sources etc...with the oil company, they never want to reinvest into their infrastructure because of the money it would use up, they would rather bleed it dry, and then when the day comes where the last true drop of oil is collected, they will say, "that's a wrap" and walk away leaving the world stuck without warning all the while needing a new energy source fast, that's the true greed behind the oil companies.
If you remember what I said, there are 27,000 wells like this one BP has that have been deemed non profitable, not deemed without oil...so when the day comes that we really do need oil fast, why would we not open these ones up? Why wait, open them up now, suck them up and take the oil instead of producing 150,000 a day, you produce 100,000 a day, so what....just open a second one up and you make up the difference...it really is just a numbers game they play that bends to their greed, then common sense.
I really does not come as a surprise, that now many things at dell are broken, their leadership, support, now hardware comes broken, or compromised. I guess it might come as a surprise that most their hardware is made in china! We all know china wants to have the biggest botnet to control and censor the internet
Eddington I guess was a hog for headlines, why would he need to say there is a limit to anything, on what grounds did he base it on, did he get core samples of our sun, was he anywhere near the sun to see if maybe there might be some form of material missed in his calculations to know how the sun keeps its light (fire) going....
I find too many space scientists are using their theories and saying that this is fact. I just hope now we can have an end to this, and go on thinking the universe is limitless like the church tells us it is....
Most politicians find a way to keep their mouths shut and don't let their personal lives get into their professional, why should you...! If your gay, stop flaunting it to the world, I would put my right hand into the fire that at least 50% if not more of politicians are gay, but you just don't read or hear about it! As of yet, I have not found 1 single instance where a form you fill to get security clearance asks you your sexual preference....now if you go blabbing to every tom dick and harry (no pun intended)...that you are gay, well come time to get a form filled, you might get blacklisted behind closed doors, because if you could not keep your mouth shut about something like that, what sort of security personnel would you make?
I just don't get adobe...at what time would my PDF reader need to edit the registry, and what good reason would I need web access with javascript...? Seriously....if I need web info from another app, you can call IE from that app with command line arguments, why use a faulty app to open a web page with...IE is not secure, why would you think adobe reader would be?
I have used Foxit, but even that has holes apparently....i think i will stick to chm books for now, if I can avoid pdf altogether.
Have more smaller plants so a) if there is an accident, the disaster is not as big...b) they cost less to make, and the more you bring on line at a time the quicker the return on your investment.....c) they would need smaller teams of people to function, and would cost less in personnel to maintain,....d) should at anytime we need such things as nuclear materials for making any sort of quick weapons for xxx reason, a few strategically placed plants might make getting materials easier for deployment. This is of course only for national security (that last one)....you terrorists out there, don't read into this, I was not talking to you!
As long as these photos were not used to convey a message of "hey the leak has stopped and we are cleaning up, look how clear the water is..." to the public or used in court to defend themselves..." here we have a view of what went wrong clearly showing we had no hand in this mess"....
I just want to remind everyone, there are 27,000 of the same types of wells that have been abandoned in the gulf of mexico, of which 1000 belong to BP, of which 600 did not pass proper disposal tests, and could spring leaks at anytime.... I have to say, knowing this, I will never trust any oil companies again, when they say anything, and I really do hope that the US presidency can find someone (not you Obama, obviously...mr.puppet) maybe another JFK that can NOT be swayed by the money thrown at them by these big corps.... and start really pushing stricter regulations of off shore drilling....especially since it can kill our planet if you get another few of these disasters potentially possible....I dont even know if we will come out from this one ok!
About time, someone tried to invest in recycling, or cleaning of our planet, good for you XPrize, just wish many more companies were like you to help fund development of things this planet really needs.

Yes, I know, something about having big brass ones, and courage to stand up for the people,
I guess those days are long gone!

I like your Deja moo and vote for it to become accepted phrase amongst /. readers...as it seems a lot of stories are deja moo!
it depends what package you get i imagine, i am not a travel agent, although i have traveled on cruises before and never had to pay for internet.
