    The other day a friend told me of going to a meeting and seeing a guy who had an Apple logo tattooed to his upper arm. We had a good laugh. Now that there is loyalty - perhaps cultish loyalty. So I was going to comment that Apple users are obviously more loyal using this anecdote, but then I did quick image search and sure enough - there are idiots out there with Android logo tattoos. :(

  6. Perl for example is fairly good at most of the above but it comparibly falls short in terms of code maintenance & legibility.

    I program in both and have never really understood this complaint.

    I think it might be that Perl allows you to integrate RegEx directly and therefore is more commonly used. Perl's string interpolation makes print statements much cleaner and easier to understand. And how different ways is there to format a string in Python?

  7. The guy recommend opening in Word. I know my version of Word doesn't have OCR. You can open a PDF but if it is image based, Word will display the document as an image.

    What the hell is the purpose? The say "designed to be a symbol, an icon for long-term thinking". Pick up a rock, any rock and identify it and understand the process by which it was formed. There is your icon for long-term thinking.

    Yeah that is an option. From what I understand I would need a MS Windows license to run in a VM... Don't want to do that.

    Personally I have a been using Linux as by desktop for 2 years (Redhat/Mate). I have Windows on as dual boot. I had to dual boot twice in that time - just to use IE due to poorly designed websites. I know my work process is different than others. I know many must have the Adobe suite of tools, or maybe Quickbooks, other than that what App/Tools do others must-have these days to keep Windows around? Just curious.

    As posted above checkout Geany... I too like notepad++ but Geany works equally well in both environments (Linux and Windows). You will need to download the plugin packages to get things like "highlight all instances of variable when i click on it" feature.

    Geany is the best editor.

    For one thing it works on Window and Linux equally well. With plugins (download the bundle) I have everything I need... except for code folding with MORE and LESS that Kedit once had. Maybe I will write that plugin someday.

    Vim sure yes if you have to over a shell connection for sys admin or something - but why anyone wants to use a mode editor from the 70's as their development platform is beyond me.

    The proviso is that if the Universe is infinite then everything is infinite. For example you will make the above post an infinite number of times and I this one. A toast to infinity.

    However you didn't consider the possibility of backing up your Self just like we do with data. Volkswagen takes you out? Restore backup to the day before Volkswagen event. But then we just segued into philosophy and what is Self and personal identity.
