The MacMice "The Mouse BT" is total crap. The tracking is flaky and jumps arround a lot not matter what surface I use it on. It seems to lag just a little bit when moving and the buttons are bad. Maybe it's something about the way I'm holding the thing, but most of the time when I click one button, both buttons activate.... very irritating.
Mod parent funny, but I'll only watch the finale if I can torrent it. There is NO WAY that I'm going to set through ads for black sitcoms on UPN. Thats why I stopped watching the network a season or 3 into Voyager.
Many of these shows are broadcast freely over the airwave, let me repeat that... some of these shows are broadcast for FREE. All I need to watch the O.C. or Lost or Law and Order or whatever is plug an antenna into the back of my TV. What the fuck are they talking about losing money?
Or take Battlestar Galactica, I watched most of the episodes first run, but also downloaded the ones that I missed. Does that effect my decision to buy the DVDs? Nope, I was going to get them as soon as (within a few weeks) they were released. But now with this bullshit I'm not so sure.
I call bullshit. There are many times where people don't want or can't have convergence.
Take for instance camera phones, many of the higher end cell phones now have cameras and getting one without is getting harder. BUt there are many places where phones are O.K. but cameras aren't. I personally work at a military base and there are many places where photography is prohibited. Additionally, a friend of mine was working for.... GKN (maybe?), and he was not allowed to bring his camera phone into the building.
I don't have Tiger on this machine and don't feel like walking downstairs, BUT in the Dashboard (or Expose, amybe they're the same) control panel you can remove the hotkey command.
It would hang on reboots, when loading the login window i think, anyway, I reinstalled a clean copy of panther and upgraded again, no more trouble. If you can afford to do a clean install, do it, while kinda a last resort, it will separate a hardware problem from a software problem
The price drop is nice, but I still want a 17" Cinema Display.
I'd have thought that with the Mini being hailed as the "most affodable mac ever" SOMEONE at apple would have come up with the idea of selling a monitor that didn't cost as much as the mini. A 17" at around $300-400 would seem to fit into the current line nicely, hell they could even use the same panel as in the iMac.
I agree, I also keep my files organized and nested.
One of the things that I don't like about desktop search in general is the ability to find things on other people's machines (ie people finding things on MY machine). Part of the way I organize my files is to confuse another user. I know security through obscurity doesn't really work, but I'd like to make sure that it takes more than 30 seconds for someone to dig up a particular file if they don't already know what they're looking for. I absolutely HATE walking into the kichen to grab a drink and finding one of my friends poking through my files.
(And don't tell me to 'lock' the computer, thats a pain in the ass)
How about other NON-MUSIC sources of entertainment / information?
There are many times when I'd really like to get the score of a game, or a weather / traffic report. Which, come to think of it, probably requires an AM/FM tuner.
That being said, i LOVE my iPod. So Steve, if you read this, put a radio in the iPod and i'll buy another one.

There are a couple of things that you should try using before passing a final verdict on OS-X....
First, Get a multibutton mouse. Many of the things that you "need a bunch of keyboard shortcuts for" are most likely in the context menu (right click). Ontop of that, a multibutton mouse will let you program specific keyboard shortcuts to the shoulder buttons, again speeding things up.
You should remember though that controlling things using the mouse is not always ideal anyway, when working in a word processor or spreadsheet, taking your hands off the keyboard will slow you down more than using the keyboard shortcuts.
Drag your applications folder to the right side of the dock. Now when you right click on that folder it will act very similarly to "Start: All programs" in Windows.
And now my favorite... download an application called "Quicksilver" (sorry no link handy), it indexes you application and a whole mess of other useful things. It will make launching applications and recently used files a BREEZE, if you don't mind hittign a hotkey and typing the name of the object you want to open.
Now some explanation.... I've grown up having Macs (and even Apples) in the house, but used windows nearly everywhere else, most notably at college and work. So i'm rather comfortable with both systems.... but I'd have to say that the I find myself FAR more productive with OS-X many simple tasks on one system are just as simple on the other, copying, pasting, moving aroung the hard drive, etc. But the key thing that makes OS-X stand out as the better package, is that there are many tasks that are hard (or complicated) on Windows that are just sooooo much easier on a mac, whereas I can't say the reverse. Specifically, try doing ANYTHING with wireless networking in XP, then try the same thing in X.
i know I'm going to get the whole "thats just what you're more comfortable with" line from slashdotters... but tell me, what taskes are significantly easier in Windows? (excluding platform specific aps, and assuming a user fairly proficient with BOTH systems)
Or even better yet..... 1: Let superious species build an escape portal 2: Steal one of their Nightfighters 3: Fly halfway accross the universe and a million back in time 4: Escape through open doorway (thanks Xeelee) 5:... 6: Profit
Ever try running Windows as something other than admin?
There are a lot of applications that just won't run.
Well, I can tell you a mouse NOT to get.

They could have gone with a cramped submarine type look. Tight corridors with pipes and valves and such, tiny bunks, etc.

If they get it to work, they can slap it on a disk and charge $50 for the "enhancement." Just like they did for DVD playback on the original.
Amen, I'm also totally pissed.

I'd rather get a headsup here, or even better yet

Very cool, sounds like a good idea.
Could I get copies of those scripts?
Thanks
Send that to my screen, and getting working on a new protcol for division!

If the movie sucks, then this is early enough that they can change it.

as far as i know the only specific location that should be referenced as "the X" is The Bronx.
