How long will it be before someone creates THE killer app for mac that runs windows in OS X ala the "classic" mode? And yes, by "killer" I do mean that it will kill the Mac.
Let me get this straight. If I am bored by someone, it isn't because the topic is boring or becasue I have a short attention span, its because there is something fundamentaly wrong with the brain of the person speaking to me.

Posix, Shmosix. I want libraries. I want REAL built-in UNIX apps, not MS work alikes. When MS drops DLLs and The Registry and learns to play nice with others, wake me up.
Bush and the rest of the politicos in the US and probably Britain don't care if our jobs go to India/China/N.Korea or where ever because they don't see the jobs as "ours". The jobs, so they think, belong to the corporations and can be given and taken away as the corporations see fit. Bush and co. would be happy as clams if the Common American made $.25/hr, as long as Bush and co. still ran the country. They have the power and the money, and we have the votes, but they can buy our votes and we can't vote for their power and money.
Welcome to the REAL America, brothers.
Whoa! You mean my copy of OpenOffice will never be upgraded? Sheesh, this is a rip-off. I was told that there was a who cadre of altruistic programmers who would upgrade the app for me.
Or am I wrong?
Once again we see a PRIVATE company complying with a PUBLIC law. Google is a company, nothing more. If the legal government of China wants Google to behave in a certain way to its citizens, Google MUST comply of stop doing business with citizens of China.
If the citizens of China want more freedom, THEY must demand it. If they cannot get their government to comply with their wishes, it is not Google's place to enforce those wishes.
Look at it this way, if Google was a SPAM company and it was the US demanding that the spam stop, and Google said no, what you you think then?
Ya know, I was just thinking, it would be great to run OS X and Windows on the same box - BECAUSE MY LUSERS HAVE BEEN BEGGING FOT THAT FOR YEARS!!!! It would be nice to check that one off my list.
History (all of it) ahows us that things usually don't happen all at once. A huricane here, a melting glacier there, a rise in sea levels and a little less ozone and viola! Global Disaster(tm). We're more than few decades here, like two hundred or so, not a sudden lasting change.
Peddle your mini-series somewhere else!
One: Microsoft is all about the dollars. Because this involves Microsoft, this, too, is all about the dollars.
Two: Freedom of speech is protected under the Constitution of the United States of America, not under the Chinese version. If these people want free speech, they can either change their government or move to a country that supports free speech. It is not up to Microsoft or the USA to enforce free speech (or any other freedom) in other countries. That's what got us into Iraq.
I have a problems with this idea.
One of the themes I'm currently writing about is technologies that closely resemble 'fictional' technologies/magic but aren't 'seen' as those 'pretend' things because the science gets in the way of our understanding. For instance, a car would be a great interpretation of Seven League Boots. This stuff with the carbon nono-fibre gunk and self assembling whosits sounds an awful lot like nanobots.
Are we there, yet?
READING is part of the whole book learnin' process. Looking things up, either in an index or in a searchable database is not a replacement for actually READING THE TEXT.
Its an author/reader mind-gestalt thing. You wouldn't understand.
I have worked for a government agency (the Minnesota Dept of Health) which had many varied and incompatible databases. All of these DBs were created by individuals and each was created to suit a SPECIFIC need. Over time, it was thought by some misguided and short-term leaders that all of this data could be consolidated and used to better track the health trends of the citzens of the state (read: keep tabs on the money). Five years and hundreds of thousands of Tax Payer's Dollars later, there is no 'One DB to Rule Them All'.
Have no fear, government incompetence is a variable that rises and falls with the effort expended by the employees, elected or not. Government intelligence, on the other hand, is a constant, regaurdless of the number of people in the government. So, while it requires little intelligence and only average competence as a programmer to create the All-Seeing DB, it also requires great effort from large numbers of people. We may all rest easy.
Wow! More motivated than your competitors who don't jump through (the hoops). And to think I've been wasting my time just reading the manuals, researching different approches to problems, and trying out solutions in a controled manner. Boy, did you straighten me out. No more of that "science" stuff for me.
So then, first person to sell their Apple stock buys the beer?

draconian tax system that punishes achievement.
So THAT'S why Bush was such an underacheiver all of those years - the TAX SYSTEM.

1) Stop building the telecomunication infrastructure.
2) Wait until demand increases and charge more for "higher" bandwidth
3) $$$$$
4) Get wiped out when someone simply BUILDS MORE INFRASTRUCTURE!!!!!

Interesting that you would mention 9/11. Is there any way that this School District could be angling for a little Home Land Security funding?

Which is to say that:

for $useless_os, see any Microsoft product.

And it even gets rid of Windows! Its a good thing virusH^H^H^H^H^H^software writers aren't required to have malpractice insurance.
