Hey everybody! Guess what? Apple is a very big world-wide corporation. Just like Microsoft, Nike and a million other corporations. Take whatever you think your least favorite Evil Corporation (tm) is doing and insert Apple. Odds on it is being done. If not by Apple, then by a contractor for Apple.
This is what a global economy means. Corporations seek the lowest cost labor around the world. In order to have the lowest labor costs, China allows corporations to treat laborers like slaves.
After the first 200 calls to 911 that "Tommy's cell phone has disapeared" (only to reappear an hour later when Tommy comes up from his freind's basement) the cops will stop replying to any calls based on this service.
Utterly useless unless you want to find a lost/stolen cell phone which just happened to be left on.
Who buys this? Obviously you are not in the IT industry!:-)
Serriously, my dept insists on AV/Anti-Malware software on EVERYTHING (even Macs)because my boss's boss (CIO) can be fired if we lose data and she wants someone to blame. The theory is that eventually someone will create a virus for OS X and then we will be prepared. Whatever. I just fill out the P.O.s and do what I'm told.
Keep you boss's boss off your boss's back. That's my motto.
I don't want to get into a long discussion, but I need to reply.
If I record a song, I own a copyright to the song. I can sell/license the copyright to someone OR I can sell copies of the song for as long as the copyright holds. If I sell or license or otherwise transfer ownership of the copyright to soeone else, they have some or all rights to the song. If I sell copies of the song, the government has decided which rights the purchaser receives with the purchase, but the purchaser does not receive all the rights - like the right to make more copies.
Digital objects are easy to copy. It is trivial to make a copy of a non-DRMed song and distribute it for money. If you are not the copyright holder, you don't have that right.
I don't like DRM the way it is now, either. But as writer I do see it a a neccessary evil.
If people own something they have the right to protect their items from beings stolen. I'm sure theft is very clearly defined in the law - all types of theft.
On the other hand, there is nothing in the world that says people must use DRM. If you think it is an abomination, don't use it and don't buy things with DRM. But here is a question for all of you who think your liberties are threatened buy big business and DRM; when was the last time you baked your own bread or grew your own potatoes or made your own ketchup? Convenience will keep people coming back for more. I will buy my music in whatever format I find most convenient, and so will you.
I know this is hard for all of us to remember, but people who buy PCs to play games on do so because the PC is a multi-function device (email, surfing, recipes, taxes, accounts, etc). Many/.ers buy or build PCs just for gaming and $2000 for a game-machine is not a big deal. This is not true of the majority of PC game players.
I would guess from my exposure to Macs over the years, that most Macs high-end (game friendly) macs are purchased as single-use items for money-making purposes, and low-end macs are purchased for family members of high-end mac users OR because someone somewhere demended a mac for a specific use (University IT depts, school boards, etc).
For the rest of us caught in between high-end mac users and high-end PC gamers, there are the consoles. Consoles provide the high-end game machine without having to justify buying TurboTax to run on it.
We read from a post on the SLASHDOT web site on JUNE 5, 2006 that you have NO CHILDREN and would WILLINGLY ACCEPT our targeted advertising. Please read our 10,145 new POSTS in your COOL BLOG about UNKOWN (http://scambusted.blogspot.com/).
40+ years at the current fuel consumption levels will enable us to produce limitless energy - but not to be able to produce/maintain the infrastructure to deliver it. No matter how you slice it up, transportation of supplies needs OIL. Horses and llamas are not an option.
Most Mac users in my experience are either A) Students who have no choice because their schools either profide or demand the macs, B) Corporate design-types who have never used anything else and have the "from my cold, dead hands" mentality, or C) independant "artists" who do some sort of creative/design/blog thing and have a Mac because of it supposed sophistication.
If OS X or any other *nix-a-like every reaches market saturation where John Q l33t notices it, there will be viruses. Sleep well America, you are safe in the arms of Apple.
My "certification" is a field other than IT. I won't state what it is for fear of bringing down the wrath of wanabe editors. My certification, a BS, has been both a plus and a minus in my career. I paid too much for it, as most people do, and I don't feel I have made back what I invested in it. On the other hand, I learned much I otherwise wouldn't and I think my employers have benifited, which has mademy job easier.
Clearly you have not been paying attention. Let's review:
The United States of America (USA) is a REPUBLIC, not a DEMOCRACY.
We the People of the USA vote for the CONGRESS and THEY MAKE THE LAWS, not us.
The President of the USA RUNS THE GOVERNMENT in the same way that a CEO runs a CORPORATION with CONGRESS as the Board of Directors. We, the stockholders, vote for the Board AND the CEO.
So, it doesn't matter what you or I think. IT MATTERS WHAT THE CONGRESS THINKS OF THE PRESIDENT, and clearly they are worried about blowjobs.
What is this "browser" thing you speak of? Is it some sort of antique way of accessing networked applications where you don't have enough bandwidth to handle the application?
I will promise that data associated with the photo will be lost. The only SURE way to keep the data with the scanned photo is to attach the photo to a sheet of white paper, type the data on it (names, dates, locations) and scan the whole thing. This makes for a very large file, but on the pluss side, the white paper gives you an accurate whitepoint in the photo.
Calm down! : )
I support Macs and PCs in the USA for a VERY large company (which shall remain very nameless). I have supported Macs/PCs in a college a lab and in a local school district and in homes for twenty years (yes, I am THAT old). What I described is my point of view. A very enlightened point of view, by mine none the less. Your mileage may vary - but not over twenty years.
Sorry, but not like WINE. WINE on OS X is like a Land Rover in Antarctica - good in theory but utterly useless in reality.
Please think of OS X users as either A) a designer who thinks that OS X is Photoshop and Quark with email, or B) an academic/teacher who just wants students to do the work and can't be bothered to learn about the OS. WINE is not for these people.
OTOH, make it "work just like classic" and you can write your own ticket.
And, yes, I do know how WINE "works" and that I've just described how it is "supposed" to work. Worlds apart.
It's a little erie how closley this resembles the whole Deep Thought process in HHGTTG.
Build a giant computer
Ask it questions
Get an answer that means nothing because you didn't ask the right question
Maybe this is just the computer that is destined to one day design the ultimate computer to solve the ultimate question.

Apple doesn't charge for the downloaded updates.

Unless these poor souls had a contract specifically saying they didn't have to do this, they are up a creek.
Contracts are the ONLY protection labor has. And the better the contract negotiator, the better the contract. That's why UNIONS are such a good idea.

Tell that to a judge. I'm sure he/she would understand.

1) Apple starts hyping istelf as a game platform
2) Sony/MS/Nintendo nicely kick Apple's arse
3) Apple only loses a few million that year.
No. I don't think Apple should do this.
From a fiction writing perspective, how would you do that? What resources can I research?
There is a problem here.
40+ years at the current fuel consumption levels will enable us to produce limitless energy - but not to be able to produce/maintain the infrastructure to deliver it. No matter how you slice it up, transportation of supplies needs OIL. Horses and llamas are not an option.
Elephants - maybe.
We're doomed!

Of course their report would be an a standards based and open format like RTF or text, right?
Could this post be any more obvious a troll?
Move along - yada, yada, yada.
OOPS! My mistake what I meant to say is ...
I give up. This stupid software doesn't work! : )
People, this is simply the lusers confusing the term "work" with the term "magic" as in "This stupid software doesn't !
