If you're going to need to patch custom applications, then you're going to need to look into something like Configuration Manager with SCUP if you want to have compliance data for the installation, otherwise you can just create a software distribution package.
So the question I have is, does the fact we have a large moon also the reason we still have our protective magnetic field? I've always kind of assumed the answer is yes without researching it. Wouldn't the relationship of our earth moon magnetic fields interacting each other creates some sort of signature that we can look for? That seems like it could be a potentially noisy event.
One of the major talking points about this game is the fact that every quest in the game has spoken quest text. The amount of work it’s taken to accomplish this is a massive expense. The fatal flaw here is... Who ever said that games wanted to HEAR every single quest that’s in the game? What happens if there is a bug in one of the quests and you have to change the text? 1) you have to keep a LIVE production studio to make sure you can record any changes to the quests which may arise 2) you now have a LOT more data to transmit to the clients for any patches as opposed to pure quest text. Oh you've also increased the amount of data required for any new content you want to develop and distribute after release by a factor of 1000. It is nice to release new or additional content after release.. I know there are a lot of RPers out there who love quests and read and savor every single word, but most players are simply barely skim the text, hit accept and then want to move on to the next one so they can be done quickly and move on to the next one. IMO this feature of spoken quest is why costs are so high on this project and will wind up killing it.
I can think of numerous applications which would make a revolutoinary product and only require one of these devices.
The primary one being an intelligent vacuum which can actively avoid obsticales, empty its own waste bin, and recharge itself.
Now that there are also 10+ million of these devices out there, and a large number of them are being used for robotics hobbiest/engineers/etc, and are actively working on resolving this issue. I suspect the kinect 2 or some other future product will have a genuine solution to this shortcoming.
In the meantime, i am eagerly awaiting my robotic vacuum cleaner.
I have a funny story about X-Wing vs Tie Fighter.
I was at E3 in Atlanta in 1998? (the one year they had it there), One evening I was at the bar at my hotel close to the convention center. I was trying to pick up a woman who was sitting at the bar, and talking to her about video games in general. During my ramblings, I made a few comments about xwing vs tie fighter and some guy walks up to me and says "OK tell me what you don't like about X wing vs Tie fighter". I said "oh, you must work for lucasarts".. he's like.. yup, So I gave him both barrels my true feelings on the game.
I had been a big fan of the X-Wing and Tie fighter games and considered myself a 'skilled' player. When I played XW/TF it was a very very steep learning curve, even the training missions were super difficult, and made the single player very unpleasant because you never felt like you were able to accomplish anything.
I said a few other negative things and could tell I had really rattled his cage. All he shot back was.. "Well have you tried the multi player?" I told him I hadn't (ironically this game was torn apart because of its horrible multi player later, in fact there was a documented post mortem in trade magazines on how poorly it was developed) he said, "Well the multiplayer is great!" I assured him he was probably right and that I'd check it out ^rolls eyes^. I then said that I was a big fan of a lot of their other products and asked if he wanted to swap business cards. He said "Oh you mean like a business contact?" I said yeah, and we traded cards and I didn't even look at it, just put it in my wallet, bid him a nice evening and continued my conversation with the woman I was trying to bed. The next day I looked at the card, It was from Jack Sorenson, the president of Lucasarts.. I still have that card around somewhere. I never did call him up. I wonder if he would have remembered me.

Isn't it entirely possible that the lines themselves, made of either plasma or iron filings, are actually caused/created by the amount of intensity of magnitized matierial present in the field? (the magntized material interaciting with the other material itself)
You can also offer to dispose of his broken "hard drive" and either salvage all the parts, or just slap a new or used HDD in it and you've got a new computer! Of course then, you'll have to come up with some clever excuse when he comes over and sees you using his broken hard drive.
This isn't an apt analogy, I don't see how this is insightful.
We're not making complete inaccurate observations. like your polar bear theory, that would simply assume that every star we see has a solar system with one planet like ours and we assume that each has an earth around it with a population close to ours.
The equasion discussed is trying to eliminate 99.99999 percent of stars out there (excuse my inaccurate percent, its just an example), and state that according to our knowlege of statistics coupled with our understanding of the galaxy, this would be the percentage of habitable planets with intelligent civilations on them; according to our best estimates. At least thats my take away from it. we're using statistics in conjunction with our
I'm tired of all the planet classification debate, why hasn't the astrological community adopted something like:

The router comes with no username/password, or blank password.
The router firmware can detect if it has the default password, and if so redirects all dns queries to its own admin page which is a "change your password" wizard. You don't have to configure the whole modem, but it won't operate with a default password. You can always reset if if they forget what the password is, but they won't be able to make outbound DNS queries until the password is changed.
I've been thinking about driverless cars recently and what it will *really* take to make them safe enough for roads. There are going to have to be multiple independant and overlapping technologies at work here.. I.E. a precise GPS system which is capable of keeping the car on the road entirely by itself. An infrared camera system which is capable of also steering the car by itself. Maybe some sort of In ground RFID system (like in the reflectors in the center of the road? which a car can use to.. drive itself by keeping track of its distance from the sensors placed in the road (with some sort of error correction, if the occasional one is out of order, or missing.) a visual camera system which and radar/sonar system which can sense objects in front of the vehicle to bring it to a quick stop.. plus be able to steer the car by itself... Insert several more unique technologies and THEN you'll have what it takes to make a drive by itself car. There will also have to have some sort of order of priority like the laws of robotics for which systems have the ability to override other steering systems in the event of the numerous conflicts which will arise during the course of driving. I look forward to the evolution of this product, it will be very exciting.
I used Truck Bed liner from spraycans at the local auto parts store. It gave the cheap wood I used a very nice semi rough texture and also a very duable surface.
It was also far cheaper than the alternative, I was going to cover it with laminate which would have cost like 250-300 between 3 sheets of laminate and the contact cement.
The monitor is an 800x600 monitor I purchased on ebay for 150. - cost 100 to have the damn thing shipped.
The Control Panel itself was about 80% of the work.

Well Part of the problem with this image based spam is that it utilizes the component of an email which allows you to attach one of those nifty little logos in your email like so many people do. The nature of this image spam is rather interesting. they use a simple color pallete, which allows them to make the image large for the size of the file. The text is also changed so every time the image is a different size. Its very difficult to detect.
It is totally possible to block all embedded image based emails, but the issue is that you can potentailly block a lot of legitimate email from anyone who has a signature with an embedded image in their signature. When it comes down to it, an administrator most of the time does not have the authority to always block these types of messages because it may be coming from some potential profit source.. I.E, new customer, sales contact. If their managment finds out that they are losing money because the admin is blocking some emails, their head will be on the chopping block, so they let the messages through, and just let this spam through.
Most embedded image logos in sigs are small and decent file size. Frequently these large spams are lighter than the average logo, which makes this comparason moot. I think the best thing to do would be set an X Y limit on embedded images, where the spam scanner decodes the embedded image and determines how big it is, If its over the X Y limit set, then its purged.
I don't understand why we don't just call them all planets and then drop em into different classes of planets ala Star Trek. This way you can call them all planets still, pluto and whatnot will just fall into a different class of planet. What is the drawback to this? That we'll have more planets? big deal!
I've found both WoW and Everquest a great way to expose a person's true character.
If you bring a person along who you've never played with before, and an items they WANT drops and they don't get it. You'll see some people - adults, mind you, have temper tantrums, scream and complain about how they NEED that item and they deserve it. I'm talking about a system where either the item dropped is awarded to someone else in the group, or they lost it if you're/rolling on the item. Occasionally you'll even see a person loot the item, essentally stealing it, and then logging of or going linkdead(alt f4 or shutting computer off).
In addition to that, Its an absolutely amazing to test a persons skills when you're functioning in with a large group of people and how well they can accept responsiblity. Do people preform well under pressure? or do they look out for themselves first. How well does an individual communicate, so many different things.
Honestly its one of the most intersting aspects of the game - Playing with a large group of talented people who know how to interact with the other classes and each can let their individual talents shine to make the whole group greater than the sum.
In addition to this, its also very rewarding to coodinate a group of 40 people. To lead an attack on a high end raid zone, learn then terrain, devise tactics, learn from your mistakes, and eventually overcome the obstacle. Its truly a rush.
It looks like it could be some sort of reaction by a particle passing parallel across the surface of the film when the picture was snapped. It would have to be a very slow moving particle though in order to produce that sort of effect though.
Thats the only think I can think of however unlikely that is.
If it isn't totally obvious, I'm totally talking out of my ass by the way.

We are far too savage at this point to become part of the federation of planets.. or whatever its called.
+1 for Funspot. I recommend watching "The King of Kong" a dozen times, which shouldn't be a problem if you're a geek, then go to Funspot.
