  1. fuck off on Mozilla Uncooperative With OSS Groups on Security? · · Score: 3, Insightful

    "simeltaneous releases of patched software"

This is OSS took to the extreme. One for all and all for one doesn't apply when people are at risk. If you don't release a fix ASAP then you're knowingly risking the security of peoples computers. Like it or not this is a ridiclous idea from the ground up.

Work together for the greater good, don't force others to work together so you all look good.

  2. hmm on MPAA Blames BitTorrent for Star Wars Distribution · · Score: 1

Okay so.. How does a film being on P2P network ruin my fun? I plan to see ep 3 in a weeks time when it's all calmed down. I could download it but I'd rather go and see it at the cinema. Sitting infront of my PC for 2-3 hours to watch a film isn't as fun as watching it on the big screen. But how does some kid in another country downloading it make it less fun for me?

Why can't the MPAA/RIAA just fuck off. When the revolution comes they will get premier tickets for being up against the wall

  4. Point is being missed on Eat Right, Earn an iPod · · Score: 3, Insightful

Okay this is misleading. The idea is NOT to make them lose weight, it's to get them to EAT BETTER. The idea is this way kids will at least try fruit and other healthy options and hopefully stick with it. Most news channels covering it today had kids saying they liked fruit and would stick with it.

So this isn't "go on a diet you fat fucks" it's "try this, it's nice".

Slashdot maybe large but live journal's user base (myself included) is also very large. Most of them are idiots (AKA teen girls) so they would instantly start using it and think it was a great idea to only need to sign onto one site ever.

If "average whiney girl mark 3" thinks it's a good idea she will tell her friends and it'll spread like wild fire through the mass market. The geeks can't control this only choose if we listen to the cries or get snowed under with them if this happens.

  9. China on Effects of China's Software Policy on World Economy? · · Score: 4, Interesting

China keeps giving themselvs huge rubs on the back and anyone who tries to move in on it gets a kick in the groin.

This is exactly the same as every other country (look who gets all the contracts in Iraq for example), the only "real" difference is we all know "china is evil" and America/Europe/Whatever you like near the Atlantic is "good" and "helping the industry".

So China's doing nothing different from anyone else. If anything being "shut in" may even help Linux if Microsoft piss off the wrong government member.

  12. Is it.. on PlayStation 3 Unveiled · · Score: 1

Is it me or does this look like the Xbox 2 to anyone else? They both seem to be giant iPods with a weird shape...

I guess Nintendos "new kickass thing" is not using a design which is already looking generic and vile. If you look at any of Nintendos consoles they date well because they have their own "clunky yet cool" style, which even the PS has to some point. Where as the latest two machines unveiled just appear to be clones of the same damn thing. Give it 5 years when iPods arn't so cool any more and it'll seem like an eye sore.

On the other hand a Gundam game has already been shown for it (Mobile Suit Gundam : Mobile suit Gundam world), so I'll be buying one for that like I bought the PS2 for Gundam games.

you also forget to include merchandise. In the UK we get little to no anime released here beyond the little kids crap (DBZ etc). Now when you consider what people buy a year in extras (model kits in my case), it more then makes up for the loss of DVD sales which would never happen any way.

The new business model wouldn't be as effective as the current but it would still work well. The series is free, the merchandise isn't.. throw in manga translations at a good speed and a good model kit line and most animes will make a profit. It's a different style but it'd still work.
