I'm a Nintendo fanboy at heart and I'm pretty proud of it TBH. But I see this being Nintendo's last console, as much as I like them, the market "doesn't". The new generation of... gamers.. (I use the term loosely) perfers quick fixs and short games with the average Hollywood plot.
The Madden 200837394 generation basicly. I just find it bitterly ironic, the shorter games get.. the people have to work to make them. Where as we all hate "it's been pushed back". I'd rather have a game repeatedly pushed back then bug ridden.
I got the books (all 5) for Christmas and I've read two of them since then. I have to say it's one book no one should ever miss.
It goes no where what so ever, makes no sense, has very little character developement, but it's perfect just how it is. If there was ever a book which truely ignored all the "rules" and still proved to be better then anything before (or after) HHGG is the book.
Plus you can hear/see the whole thing again in audio and video which changes enough to make it different and intresting.
This is like going "Hey lets build an electric power space rocket!". It's fine and dandy having the power to do it, but you need the powers behind it to make them work. Hell just turn off your electric for a day and you'll see my point.
I've heard rumours that Halo 3 is a launch title and infact Halo 2 was cut short just so they could use the "real ending" for the third part and get a head start.
We'll see Halo 3, Metal gear 4, Mario sunshine 2 and so on and so forth. The new consoles can't do much new because no one is risking it, they just want better graphics and the same thing over and over. That's just how the market is these days.
Tell me when we're seeing Virtual reality, because untill then "inovation" is a word Microsoft like to throw infront of their patents.
Why don't they just help support firefox? Firefox has taken the market by storm, if it can get 20% it's a huge dent. Giving other options doesn't help this at all. 2%, 5% and 1% means nothing, but if you combine it all together it becomes 8% which in browser terms, is huge!
Remember hitting a brick wall with a sledgehammer will knock it down, so smaller hammers can fix the holes. Hitting it with lots of little hammers chips it, but it still stands.
Global warming has no exact dates to put on it, many people say many different things. I've watched several documentries (AKA the kind at 2am with real science, not just some cooking show presenter looking for a new job explaining stuff he doesn't understand). Some said the effects are far worse and being reversed, others have said it's not even real.
Either way we're not knowledgable enough on the subject to give an exact date of "when we're all fucked". But then again nuclear power is a cure for the problem (alot of people agree with this), it's just a shame no one will just come out and say "We're going to try it again". You'd think by now they'd stop signing agreements no one is sticking to (Exception America, but in a bad way).
Minor nuclear accident VS the world being screwed over and the human race and MANY animals dying.
Looks like we'll be seeing three eyed fish or nothing but fish..
I suggest you check the spyware they put in their Windows version. It's only a matter of time before alot of people use the Linux version (it's easier after all) and they slip something in that.
Will it include honey nut clusters or just them weird computer-thingy-ma-jiggy ones? We don't want to confuse the public with their breakfast and spyware infested super networks now do we?
I've look into Ruby before (a friend said it's agood newbie language), I've read a few tutorials and get the general concept and how it works, but I lost the URLs and such for these things, so I'm asking for some help with it.
Wheres a good tutorial site? (multipule if possible) Any books worth reading? General resources sites? Good community sites with help or IRC channels?
a private place for friends to chat and idle. If wetake MSN for example the percentage of bandwidth going to file transfering is going to be massaive compared to text messages. Think of it this way.
1 message = 1-10kb 1 movie file = 900mb (30 minutes = 200 mb so I'm assuming a movie is about that)
Now then, I have to sent 1024 messages to make 1/900 or 1/90 of that same thing. So any way you look at it, you will still end up with "broadband is faster then my fingers."
IRC is just free speech in a free place, it can be abused just as any where else can. I'm sure theres alot of child pornography on IRC, but I'm also sure theres alot of it being handed to "clients" in McDonalds and coffee shops. It's how the world works, only it's hidden better in that case.
Banks need to start charging MS for all the money they have to "return" to customers after thay get caught by a scam like this. It must be costing them millions and alot of it is from people using Windows. I'm sure Bill would get stick his thumb out and get moving if he had several million dollars fines he can't pay in Windows 98 CDs.
Maybe people will see this and relise the LJ staff are geeks, unlike most of their fanbase, so while you maybe mocking their minions they can still bring down a server looking at a single article with the rest of us slashdotters.
Could of swore the American people can record something with a VCR/TiVo and happily watch it back. Surely the same thing applies to downloading it after watching it on TV a day or so before too.
I'm not American but this applies to most places, just a shame people totally ignore anything "in the real world" when it comes to "cyber" crime.
Fantastic! Just go "HEY WE DID IT!", the RIAA/MPAA will use this case as evidence in the future and fuck over everyone else with it.
Tomorrow on Slashdot : Suprnova returns The day after tomorrow on Slashdot : MPAA, RIAA, Superman and several zealous religions sue suprnova for point to torrents hosting music, video, comics and several different religious books. Day after that : MPAA/RIAA point to this case and use it as evidence of how illegal it is, obviously if someone admits it's a crime that applies to everyone else too no?
I've heard enough stories on slashdot to think it's time I gave out one of my own.
about 10 years ago (I was 9-10ish) I was watching an episode, I forget the exact plot, but it involved some guy using vents to get around or something. So any way the was a "family friend" who no one could really get rid of atthe house, she was always there.
So any way this woman was going to leave when X-files was ove r(it was quite late) so theres my mum doing something and casually goes "You do know X-files is real right?" so I go "nah it can't be" and the woman went "..it...is..?" and gulped.
Well needless to say after X-files finished she was tempted to try and cling to something rather then leave... if you've never seen a 30 something woman pretty much pee herself with fear in a very safe area then you haven't lived.
I also remember shortly after that she stopped returning.. I wonder why, maybe it really is true.
This is downright disrespectul, they were fonated as gifts to the place. Not as "sell me on in 10 years time" gifts. This is like selling your engagement ring or that necklace your [beloved family member here] bought you for your 18th/21st birthday.
I hope someone demands their items back and gives them to people who deserve them and will respectful rather then pawn it.
A good judge will see how STUPID this is, it maybe "within the law" but at the same time it's "within the law" to complain and not get 12 lawyers knocking at your door.
I was going to read the article.. but then I remembered the last HHGG stuff on AICN and decided against it.
No matter what they say it'll probably be completely wrong if not down right lies.

Didn't we have this before on Slashdot? I remember the whole comment feel was "been done, this is just an advert".
I got the books (all 5) for Christmas and I've read two of them since then. I have to say it's one book no one should ever miss.

With EA being the new Microsoft, is this the new "patent" market place crippling? Seems it's heading that way.

Oh yea, opening the source code is the path to true enlightment.
Open source is GREAT for somethings, not so for others. Why pay 29.95 for a product you can just compile for free?
Put "Real player" in ANY P2P proggy and you can get it for free already, why make it even easier by giving away all their trade secrets and such?

Anyone else thinking that he over clocked his machine and got out a frying pan? I know students are cheap but thats a new low..
Offtopic but I'm looking for a little help here.

Ever been to bash? That's what IRC is, there just happens to be alot of warez servers out there too.
