Back in the late 90's when the internet first took off, most of the internet users never used their real name for anything. Maybe we were all geeks and loved being able to role play bad asses (aka trolls) on IRC, forums, and online games, but I'm just shocked these days on how people use their real names for just about everything.
I honestly don't see the point in being anonymous. I take responsibility (and credit) for the things I say and write. If somebody doesn't like that they can tell me to my face. And good luck to them.
There is a lot more social networking going on in journal pages on slashdot. In effect, every user account is a personal social network. I have stumbled on a few over the years.
P.S. Where do you get the information as to how many people fly from which airport to which airport daily?
Airport arrivals data is often available on line. You would have to guess the number of passengers but your guess would be better than using twitter anyway.
But as you said they were being idiots. Some people just want to do their jobs without that sort of stuff happening in the next cube. Sexual harassment laws are there to protect those people.
I'm on my third year of a Masters course. The third year is a year out in industry. So I've spent the last 11 months as programmer for an ISP.
I hope you are using your extra qualifications in that role. I work for a defence company. People with specialised qualifications get sent off to work on radar tracking algorithms or similar. Working at an ISP doesn't sound very challenging to me. You should look at working for Google, Raytheon, Boeing, Thales, EADS, Lockheed Martin, etc. Or possibly a bank though I wouldn't know much about that. Not my field.
I know a lot of people who don't work in the area which they studied for their masters. Thats a waste of time IMO. I think you should decide now what type of work you are going to do after university and make sure you can directly benefit from the extra time you spend on your education.
If there was anything like the netbook craze before, it may have been the Tandy Model 100, a small, lightweight, inexpensive computer with built-in modem that's popular even today with writers. In fact, I think a netbook in that form factor (flat, screen and keyboard open, AA battery powered) would still be nice.
I reckon I could build one of those around an atmel microcontroller. LCD display modules are very cheap now. The keyboard could probably be hacked up pretty easily.
I take mine travelling so we can watch movies and transfer data between our cameras. The touchpad also freaks out when the laptop is run from a cheap in car power inverter, so I either take a small mouse or pull the power when I want to use the UI.
Its a great little machine. I used it at my dad's place yesterday setting up his wifi. I had his new router plugged in and was testing the connection through to/. from the eee while he fiddled with the wifi configuration on his windows laptop. Now he wants one of course.
2. Title. This proves you bought and own the vehicle. If you have a loan on the vehicle, you get what's called a white title, which means you own the car but have a loan on it. I don't know how leasing works - probably similar with a white title or something....
Hmmm I wonder why the Government goes to the trouble of doing that. Here in Australia title only applies to land. Cars are just normal property. I can think of plenty of things more expensive than cars. Some boats, aircraft, even houses can and have been stolen.
My seven year old son has a DS, and is doing his best to trick us into getting him a DSi.
The DS seems to be targeted at younger consumers. The older demographic for the PSP is smaller because a lot of people at that age just aren't into games any more.
I see a lot of girls my sons age with cute pink DS's. I can't imagine a girl buying a PSP. Thats half the market gone right there.
There is also the GWB solution: make the US such an awful place to live, that nobody would want to come here, illegally or otherwise.
I wonder if the US could improve the situation in Mexico by creating a new type of visa. The idea is that you could live in the US as long as you want, but only 50% of the time. This would encourage migrants to divide their time between Mexico and the US. There would be more cultural exchange and the people who have (partly) migrated north would have a good reason to make Mexico a good place to live. Ultimately this might result in fewer people wanting to leave the country.
It'd also be better to overbuild it for that case given the relative instability. Terrorism or not, it would most certainly send a message to Mexico to reform their country.
Immigration to the US is acting as a filter, letting the good people move north and leaving an excess of scum bags south of the border. Perhaps the US should consider sending the legal immigrants back, so they can help reform Mexico.
Yeah but the EU gets to choose the countries which join. If Morocco and Algeria join the EU I would agree that Mexicans should be able to freely move to the US.
Yes, that is a big problem here in Australia too. The trafficers operate in Indonesia. They ship people south on unsafe boats with the intention of getting caught by our navy, so that they can apply for refugee status. A lot of people have died, its really tragic.
Many of the people trying to come over seem to be from places like Iraq and Afghanistan. They sit in Indonesia for years waiting for an opportunity. The silly thing is that Indonesia is not such a bad place to live. If they got together as a community they could educate themselves and possibly become eligible for legal migration to Australia.
As long a Leonard Nimoy is still around to make insightful comments we should be okay.
BTW does it ever get dark in Arizona?

You forgot how self-absorbed these people are.
Thats my sister you are talking about (you insensitive clod).
And do you care about The Old Man of the Mountain?
P.S. Where do you get the information as to how many people fly from which airport to which airport daily?

I just thought it was normal that half the sites /. links to talk only about bluecoat. Must be a popular product.
Sexual harassment laws make hostile workplaces.

I know I guy who did his masters on high performance parallel computing. Now he manages a UI development project.
Buzz Aldrin did his masters on Orbital Rendezvous. If he hadn't flown on Apollo he wouldn't have used it at all.
And East Germany I suppose. Not sure about the current situation with Turkey.

I Pee Cam viewer so I can monitor my security cams at home
Really? Can't you just look down?
Some people have to lean too far forward to make that practical.
Whats the battery life like? Apart from that, what do you think of Android on the Freerunner?
Ubuntu 9.04 runs fine on my eeepc.
Yeah, the Trash 80 is a good contender.
I don't think the TRS-80 would make a good laptop.

touch pad freaks out when they get too wet

How much of the problem is people walking over the border, compared to people overstaying their visas?
