Per that article: The vast majority of death penalty cases in China are due convictions of aggravated murder or large scale drug trafficking.
The vast majority of people in American prisons are NOT in prison for aggravated murder or large scale drug trafficking, so your solution to adopt the Chinese model of capital punishment would not put a significant dent in American prison populations.
People still listen to radio to discover *new* music? Seriously?
Music radio is for top-40 hits from various genres (of today and yesteryear), unless it's some college radio station, which clearly wouldn't be owned by ClearChannel.
Want to know what ended it? Religious hard-liners coming back into power. Rather similar to a recent president who had Bible quotes printed on the covers of his Iraq war briefings.
Yes. This this a million times this! There should be ZERO discretion when it comes to enforcing the law.
Every speeder who goes even 1 mile over the limit should get a ticket. Every jaywalker should get a ticket.
Why? Because right now these "little" crimes that are mostly not enforced on are done by pretty much everyone. That then gives the cops an excuse to stop you for reasons other than suspicion that you're involved with a crime.
Imagine if wearing a shirt was technically illegal, but everyone obviously does it anyway. So then a cop sees you and doesn't like you or wants to mess with you for whatever reason, he can say "hey, he had a shirt on, that's probable cause". But if they had to arrest/ticket everyone who wore a shirt, the police force would be paralyzed and the public would want their fucking heads on pikes.
NO DISCRETION. (note, this is not at all the same thing as "zero tolerance")
You know what's really interesting? Because capsaicin is freely soluble in alcohol, one of the "best" ways to get rid of a mouth full of hot is to rinse with pure ethyl alcohol.
I put "best" in quotations because I'd rather have a mouthful of habanero than a mouthful of everclear.
So the question is, this crazy-hot schnapps you mention: does the burn stay around a shorter period of time? If the capsaicin is soluble in alcohol, does that reduce it's ability to bind to the right receptors on your tongue?
Yep, I remember the days of hex-editing Myth (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myth:_The_Fallen_Lords) to make all kinds of insane shit happen.
But then again, 14 may be too old to really "get into" coding if there's been no prior interest. If you're not at least curious about coding before then...I don't know.
When my son was born a few years ago, the Doc didn't clamp the cord very quickly. Our baby also ended with a pretty decent case of jaundice and had to be under the "bili lights" for a few days, extending our hospital stay.
This can sometimes happen when the baby gets a big dose of red blood cells because he's a lot lower than the placenta (gravity) or because the cord isn't clamped very quickly. All those red blood cells die in a day or two, baby cannot break down/metabolize the dead RBCs correctly, and POOF, jaundice.
Just be careful. Jaundice can cause pleasant things like brain damage in neonates (due to immature blood/brain barrier).

Once upon a time I was a Fed, and that's not true, UNLESS you work for one of the super-secret agencies, but they have all kinds of looney-toons rules that don't apply to the other agencies.
The Hatch Act DOES apply in some specific circumstances outside the job, but putting up a partisan sign in your yard is not one of them. That's OK (again, for "regular" Feds, not NSA/CIA/Secret Service folks).
lso, don't hit back without really meaning it, you have to have the 'will of the warrior' and hit like your life depends on it.
Agreed. I was picked on in Middle School (age 11 or so?) until I broke my hand on a bully's face. Sure, I didn't know how to punch correctly, but his face was a lot more messed up than my hand. Totally worth it.
I don't understand how being an athiest would deter you from watching a work of fiction.
Actually, we atheists are used to listening to and talking about a work of fiction (religion) with our less-grounded fellow humans on a near-daily basis, so it's just more of the same. All equally preposterous.

Why not just download software that can play Matroska?
VLC
Plex
MPlayer
Movist (Mac)
Unless you have some goofy media head unit like an xbox, but hey, you get what you pay for. mkv is THE format for downloadable HD video nowadays.
The other thing that fits the 2 year old well is the wooden Thomas the train sets. We spend hours building elaborate track sets.
At the cost of 20 bazillion dollars. I'd love to get more for my son, but once I've exhausted the Craigslist listings, I cannot afford retail. :(
We did the same thing here (pasta bridges) in the US (suburban Chicago). Don't worry, it's not that weird. :)

Elated?

Yep. And that reason is revenue collection.

It has to do with war. That he wants to start. With his countrymen.

Well, just make the rendering engine webkit or something and POOF pretend it's a real app.
Hell, Google just introduced a font API so you could replace all the normal text with some cool font to make it look more "bookish".

Not sure about an actually study, I'll ask her and see if she can dig one up.
