It's free, it's old, and it runs on just about anything, but it's still as addictive as anything I've played. I started playing again at Christmas, and I'm still loving it almost 2 months later
Getting Microsoft out of schools, especially if they move to openoffice, won't just save the schools money. The parents will also save a fortune not having to buy copies of Microsoft Office just so their children can do their homework.
This is a lose lose situation for Microsoft. Even though the student edition of Office is much cheaper than a full copy, many parents don't know about it, and fork out for a full copy.
Google does not usually like sites built specifically for adsense (as well as being against the adsense terms & conditions ). I wonder how long his adsense account will last before google terminates it.
Wanting frontpage coverage on slashdot is great for revenue, but admitting to building the site for adsense, well thats priceless.
Some of the sites have their own search, and some have a nice readable interface. Take your pick. Though I'm sure hundreds of mailing lists aren't indexed anywhere, perhaps thats what gmail is for;-)
How about a/. sponsored free software day, where we try to get all those/. readers still using *cough* windows *cough* to switch to something more open?
It seems strange that they are using 60 year old rocket design, and a pod that looks oddly like spaceship one's pod (All those black dots/windows)
I thought the x-prize would push innovation forward, not recycling (or has the patent on v2 rockets recently expired) . Otherwise couldn't we have done this 50 years ago?
Tried testing it out through a proxy that strips the referrer and user-agent fields (no tin-foil hat here;-) ). Just kept giving me 302 redirects back to the same front page
If you are more interested in volume than speed, then the emphasis should be on the 'ID' part of RAID. Inexpensive Disks. If you used 160GB Drives, which appear to have the best bang for your buck at the moment, and put 6 (yes 6!) in a pc. Just use any old cheap pc (I use 200-400Mhz PII)
Run the disks RAID 5 and you will get about 800GB of storage for $600 . Now get two cheap ata100 cards so you have a total of 6 channels, and mount each drive as a master on each channel. Build a 2gb root partition on the first disk (mirror it if you want) and then set the rest of the space up as a huge raid 5 array.
Et Voila cheap, big server. To archive data, turn off pc, and throw into attic:-)
This issue surfaced on Nanog last week, and was discussed in some depth (53 replies). ARIN or ICANN needs to be made 'friend of the court' so the Judge can get some realistic advise on the issues involved

I see a similarity here - no matter how much you spend on bubble wrap - if you drop it from high enough, it WILL break.
If they only stock linux pc's and linux software, it could provide a one stop shop for locals pc needs without the confusion of "will this (windows) software run on my pc?" Sometimes less choice is better.

Earlier today, the Pentagon announced the first succesful test of their new EMP 'starwars' defence shield.
Perhaps starbucks should be careful they don't get added to the list, especially serving columbian blends !

The Mac version is 8M, windows installer is 5.9M, and windows Zip 5.5M, so I guess the maths is
Firefox Installer (4.8M) + Plugin (700k) = Sunbird installer (5.9M) - Nightly/debug extras (400k)
Whoa another great reason to buy (licence) all your favorite movies all over again.
With MPAA on one side and Microsoft on the other, I just don't know who to cheer for.
Am I the only one still waiting for a decent secure voip solution. Say with client certificates instead of caller ID to verify who's calling.
And don't say pgpfone, I want a mainstream easy to use voip phone/software that even my gran could use.

Just what we need - a fussy site.

about the performance and quality of the results of the search preview over at Webmaster World, including some feedback from MS employees.

Really, no joke, theres a pic of the camera, I've never seen so much duck tape!
I'm sure theres an easier way - video camera mounted on bike perhaps?
We geeks do enjoy reinventing the wheel the hard way.
Perhaps a Breakdown and Recovery service instead of space tourism ?
Though Intergalactic Pizza Delivery gets my vote. I wonder if ISS would refuse to pay if it turned up a few minutes late?
It was fox that dropped the series ? See not a mozilla joke in sight
