"Economic terrorism"? Sorry, but that term positively reeks of bullshit. The very definition of "terrorism" makes it an oxymoron, as "terrorism" involves use of force.
That's because they physically remove the car from the lot or from its previous owner, so that no one else can use it. If someone can walk over to a car lot, make a perfect copy of one of the cars, and drive away in it, charging them with grand theft auto is pretty ridiculous.
When they're deciding what each individual song file is worth, do they count the money to pay the musicians, the money to purchase the instruments, the money to buy the system to digitally "touch it up", the money to make the CD, the money to buy the truck to transport the CDs to stores, and the money to hire the truck driver?
This crap makes the "$80k E911 document" look pitiful in comparison.
The only one of those games I'd consider indecent for kids is the last one, for fairly obvious reasons. The first two are about fighting SPACE ALIENS for crying out loud...Doom's about killing DEMONS. What are they afraid of, little kids wanting to grow up to become space rangers or exorcists?
As I understand it, if you want a book to be published at all, you have to relinquish a considerable amount of those rights. And if your books aren't published, you don't eat.
"To be serious for a moment, all we'd have to do is release nonviolent drug offenders. Then we wouldn't have the shame of incarcerating more of our population than any country, even china or russia."
We'd start jailing illegal immigrants, most likely.
"And finally, United States, you're splitting up too. You're too powerful, and have been electing idiots lately. All the states west of New Mexico, including Alaska and Hawaii, and now a separate country."
You'd make so many people in the Southeast happy. And no, I don't just mean white supremacists. The red states and blue states are getting very tired of each other.
I think he meant that it's easier for a smaller nation to keep up with its education program, which is true. Things start to break down in larger systems.
No... Chain them to a desk with a math book, paper, and a pencil. Teach them how to use the computers only after they've mastered those basic math problems. I've yet to see a piece of elementary level math educational software be very effective with average kids.
Sounds like the one I went to, except there was no "open campus" at all. In fact, you couldn't leave the cafeteria (and a small enclosed region outside it) once you entered. Kids would sometimes sneak across the street to eat at Zaxby's, so a tall chain-link fence was put up around the campus and all the outward gates and doors were locked. The only person with a key was an armed cop; if someone had to leave, the people in the office made a call to him. IDs were required if you wanted to eat lunch.
This was a public high school in a rural county, with no record of higher than normal levels of violence.
"I think many are unhappy that they can't escape the commericalism that is everywhere. I think many people are overwhelmed by advertising everywhere. It is in the ballpark when you go there, and even worse, when you turn on your tv to watch a ballgame they now have advertising images superimposed behind the batters box. It is on billboards, in rural communities where before there was no intrusive advertising signs."
Not to mention in the sky. I want to shoot down the planes here advertising crap.
I HEAR lots of old people vocally supporting this. Non-techies and baby boomers won't even listen to explanations of why they shouldn't support it...

You have made the most blind and rabid fundamentalists I know look like men of logic and reason, and the most ignorant rednecks I know look like Yale graduates. Congratulations.
I agree wholeheartedly...Considering software "IP" is at least understandable (though flawed, in my opinion). Labelling a species intellectual property is ridiculous, and the same goes for genetic material. If it evolves, do you own any species that it produces, too? If someone patents a gene that a human possesses, what happens then?
I'm surprised it hasn't gotten jumped on and clawed to death by fundamentalists, in fact...
That kinda makes me wonder how they EVER get valid juries for some cases...The ones where it's all over the news before the trial's close to taking place. Do they just go hunt down hermits or something?
"The gay marriage voting disgusts me. Why the hell would any sensible person vote for a constitutional amendment that effectively segregates a class of citizens?"
Comparing the refusal to give gay couples "marriage" licenses to segregation isn't even comparing apples to oranges; it's comparing peanuts to watermelons. No laws prevent a gay person from going to the same school as a straight one, eating in the same restaurant as a straight person, or voting. They aren't "set apart" from the rest of society.
They can't marry due to the simple fact that they aren't a man and a woman, and that's a crucial part of what a marriage is in the minds of many Americans.
Indeed...The target audience isn't quite large enough at the moment to make this a household thing (broadband didn't arrive in my home town until fairly recently, and I didn't have Internet access at home until it did). It'll probably be used primarily by intelligentsia and the affluent for the next few years.
If there was any assurance that it would stay at $.75, I probably would. However, there is not.

If you're trying not to look suspicious, you had better not wear a Nixon one...

"Children become citizens (in the US) when they turn 18"
Actually, no...A child born in America to American citizens is born with citizenship.

Isn't SIPRnet pretty much the same thing? Or have I misunderstood something?

I think that was a joke about the "unconcession" in the 2000 election...

It's a patent (20 years), not a copyright(17 years plus, depending on how rich you are).
There's an Irish name with the same pronunciation...Mac Cumhal/McCumhal/McCool.

Pre-emptive? Those bastards drew first blood, not us.
