I agree with the parent here. I downloaded a couple of those games, and bought them after I played them and wholly enjoyed them. I know Doom3 and HL2 were very heavily pirated (still are). This goes to show that if you make good shit, ppl will buy it regardless of whether they can pirate it or not.
My copy of HL2 from Vengeance worked fine, but I felt that valve deserved my purchase, so I bought the silver edition from Steam. I actually still use the pirated version of CS:S because I would need to buy 3 copies in order to legitimately play online with my 3 computers on my LAN, since each needs a unique Steam ID. I somtimes will have a few friends over and they like to jump in on the action. Plus the Emporio release has bots activated, whereas the legit version's bots are currently disabled:(
I see nothing wrong with the method I use to be sure I never buy a game I don't really like.
I agree with the parent on this one... and why on earth would a anyone mod that a troll?!
I use the weather plugin for Trillian, and the RSS newsreader plugin... I only use GAIM on my linux box, although I am going to see how much wine cripples Trillian, and possibly switch.
and has about the same gameplay with better graphics and more ships, like the milenium (sp?) falcon, and the ship that boba fett followed Han in after the trash was dumped. I actually still play it on my LAN with a few friends. Well worth the money since I too upgraded from my 386DX to a 486DX in order to play X-Wing and Tie-Fighter, and later rebel assault.
Its is because of the mentality that we are all individual snowflakes each different from each other, rather than the "Fight Club" mentality that we are all the same decaying biological matter as everything else on this planet. People really want to be different so the if the option to change the appearance of somthing is there, they will use it to be unique.
I prefer ICQ over AIM because you can send a msg to a contact even when they are offline. You also recieve msgs that were sent to you when you sign on. I use trillian and I noticed more features with the ICQ protocol, such as SecureIM.
Let me put it this way. I have a working pirated copy of HL2. I played it for about 3hours before I removed it and bought and downloaded the Platinum edition from Steam. Mind you I never ran into a problem with the warez copy I had. I think it is the best $80 I have ever spent on entertainment. Much better than the last trip to the strip club, which ran me over $80. This is just proof that if a game is good, piracy will hurt it less than a crappy game (Enter the Matrix anyone?). I know that there are some ppl out there that will download the Emporio release and crack it and never even think about buying it, but I think that type of person would never have bought the game in the first place... As you guys can tell, I am a firm believer in trying before buying.
I have found a nifty IPTABLES Bash Script generator that you can use any plaintext blocklist with. Check it out here: http://www.bluetack.co.uk/converter/index.php
You can use the blocklist manager from their site and build a blocklist using multiple sources and generate a bash script to import the deny rules to IPTABLES. And of course for the Windows users there is Protowall (Buggy) which is a driver level packet filtering firewall which you can enter a custom blocklist into also.
I use the SecureIM function of the ICQ protocol in Trillian Pro which should prevent the ICQ/AIM guys from reading my IMs in plain text. I dont know how good of encryption SecureIM is, but maybe some fellow slashdotter could compare SecureIM to GAIM's encryption. I only know that the two are not compatible with eachother.
"That's why humanity hasn't evolved socially for centuries."
We haven't evolved socially for centuries?! I think we have had a "few" social changes during the past 300 years that would indicate social evolution.
As the other replier stated you can install without the GUI, in fact when I installed Mandrake 10.1CE on my recently aquired (for free) Gateway 2000 G6-266 (pentium2 266mhz with 32mb edo ram) it automagically loaded the non-gui install without giving me an option to choose. Took forever to install compared to my other boxes, but it finished without a hitch.
Now we are living in a tangent universe and Frank is going to have to set up an ensurance trap for Donnie so that he can send the artifact back through the portal thereby saving the known universe.
I know exactly what you mean. I find that if I have to read a short story for my writing class, rather than read the pages the teacher assigns, I find it on the web and it seems to be much easier to read and understand even though it is the exact same text. I think I just don't have good lighting at my desk so the monitor actually helps my eyes.
Its funny how that unusable OS is used daily by me for Email, web browsing, IRC, IMs, BitTorrent, Word Processing, and a very funtional NAT router with a firewall. The only thing I added after the default install was my BitTorrent client. So unusable that millions of people use it daily. Just because you cannot get linux to work for you does not make it unusable for the rest of the world.
ever since the Regan administration faked a commercial that showed a brainscan of a normal adult and a brainscan of a Cannabis user. The commercial showed a lively colored brainscan for the normal adult, and the one for the Cannabis user was all dull and dark. As it turns out, the brainscan of the supposed Cannabis user was actually from a patient who was comatose. There have been other "studies" regarding MDMA and it's affects on the brain that have recently been uncovered as bogus misinformation from the federal government. I don't use MDMA, but I for one would rather be told the truth about "drugs" and be allowed to make up my own mind as to whether I want to use it or not.
Seeing as how even now the owners of these APs don't read the manuals, enabling WEP by default would only bring in a slew of tech support calls of ppl screaming, "It don't work!!"
If I heard that a friend had jumped off a cliff, and had no other reason to think otherwise, I would believe it. Especially if the person who told me was one of the Emergency workers recovering the body. But back on the original topic, I have been told some amazingly obsurd things from the ppl at Fry's.
I don't think that is a sled it is on. I think that is similar to a wheelchair carrier that hooks up to the hitch on a truck. I'm pretty sure it is off the ground.

Then we would have someone to protect us from Friza

Who on earth modded this parent interesting? Funny would be much more appropriate.

And you can import the Blocklist into Zonealarm PRO using ZAUpdate: http://home.comcast.net/~zaupdate/index1.8.html
Hope this info helps.

they would appear to be warm to the touch too

The i386 torrent is going pretty good on my end. It started up at 250KB/s and is steady.

But then you have to run cat5 to the toilet and garage for your laptop to access pr0n and wiring diagrams.

There is a group making Biodiesel from hempseed oil. They have a lot of good info on their site: http://www.hempcar.org/ http://hempcar.org/petvshemp.shtml for a petrol vs hemp bio-diesel comparison.
They started charging money with AlloPass :(
