Kinda sometimes definitely... although it may also be the other way around. I think people are desperate to reach out to other people in SOME way, anyway possible.

  2. It's a symptom of the cause, on Immaturity Level Rising in Adults · · Score: 4, Insightful

...not the cause of the symptom. I hear jokes that sound ridiculous when heard from third person all the time that I might laugh at if told to me. But stupid jokes don't cause immaturity, nor vice versa necessarily. It does all depend on the taste and context though, as some third grad jokes are as good as ever if done in the right context and aren't done in a derisive or tasteless sense.

But the real cause of bad jokes is that people are as desperate as ever to be well liked. I blame that on the growing culture of sexual presumptiveness in our society. You can't just go up to a stranger and start conversing with them usually without her/him thinking your up to something, no matter how natural you are (unless you have a reason to be talking). People in general are paranoid, presumptive, and take themselves too seriously. They have nightmare stories in the back of their minds from 'Unsolved Mysteries' that tell them never to talk to strangers because they will rape and kill you!

At least, that's the way people are in my town. I dunno about yours.

I've never read any studies on porn or anything, but I have at least observed it's effects on my own life... and I noticed that these umm... "cycles" that I have (where I don't watch for a few days, then do watch) actually DOES effect the way I behave in society. I believe watching and er 'gratifying' does change the chemical balance in the brain. I have no idea what these chemicals are but it does seem to affect the thought process. Of course we all feel relaxed and at ease afterwards, but how do you feel the next day, and how does it affect your own subconscious and how you act around the opposite sex? I'm sure the effects are different with different people, but I have noticed a distinct lack of self confidence and increase in timidity the day after gratification. What worries me worse is that our bodies are always releasing pheromones, and these may 'change' when we are sexually active- and while my findings in my own life are anything but conclusive, I suggest you yourselves begin to observe your thought process and behavior after watching- I think you may be suprised what you find.

One guy I told this to was overparanoid and talked down to me. But there are thousands of honest merchants with good products so don't let stories like these get you down, just used trusted sites for electronics.
Oh one other thing, as far as chargebacks go, it's very easy to get one and the merchant is actually at total mercy of the honesty of the customer.

I've run a few online sites, and although I haven't experienced anything like that I can tell you that the quality of your customers (as well as morals of competitors) depend ENTIRELY on your market. For example my gift site has never had a fraudulent order placed even though we sell high end decor, and most of the customers are reasonable and nice. My stock footage website has even more understanding and smart clients. But I did a "budget" web design thing a year or so back and I'll tell you that whenever you go for the cheapest customer or client you WILL run into trouble with people who are overdemanding and sometimes simply crazy.
As far as competitors plots go, stay far away from pron and other "discount" markets, and/or price wars. Because unless you are at the top of the chain and can afford other people to do the work for you it ain't worth it. Go for big spenders and be an honest merchant.
