You did not read the EULA did you? Since you installed it, M$ has no responsibility whatsoever when it comes to what breaks or does not work as expected. Be informed.

Yes, I remember reading here that SP2 had vulnerabilities/holes within...and also that it had spyware. Is this true or just a flame/troll? But even after its release, I was very very skeptical about installing it first time. So I will not install it. Days ago, I had Win2K install a patch after which I lost sound from Media Player! I guess these defects have become as predictable as day-break.

Nope...! Do this. Spend money where it is needed most. How can the border of the most powerful nation on earth be sooooo open? Ask yourself: Who now, is more likely to harm us here, North Korea or Osama? Common sense tells me that with a deadly gas, whose recipes are on the internet, so many can be hurt. Even the USSR never did that, yet they had and still have very advanced delivery systems. Just wait till we begin getting suicide bombers or assasinations here. Three years after 9/11 admission is in that that US still cannot satisfactorily handle another terrorist attack. Yet many believe it is the most advanced society on earth.
I will mention it again. Terrorists are a very patient lot. I can see them purchasing these compounds over a period of a decade or more. The amounts used in Oklahoma were not that many. This patience and will supprises many, including Bush.
Remember that it is far much easier to wreck havoc on any target using fretilizer, which I understand, is easy to find. This is how the Oklahoma building was bombed. So, as the US weaponizes space, the terrorists are refining their ways of bombing US buldings taking lives with them. It took Osama 7 years to execute 9/11. These people are very very patient. I still find it easy to slip a package into any subway system, and very dissapointed to see that our government wastes lots of money on these systems when our border with Mexico is wide open.
Just like many other M$ products, this was to be expected. It has become as predictable as day-break. I can mention with [absolute] certainity that there will be day-break tomorrow with the same strength as bugs/exploits/vulnerabilities in M$ software.
I wonder whether the discussions on slashdot, on topics such as these, have any influence on the decisions taken by promoters of products. This is because the chatter on slashdot is often quoted by may bulletins on other websites. What do you think?
Slashdotters, I have always used the free downloaded version and have fond the fonts not that crisp and clear. Installing M$ fonts made several KDE apps unstable. Anyone know whether the fonts in SuSE 9.1/9.2 are any better?
...is that someone experienced now does the right thing; that is: Slap a database engine onto Gambas, put everything including documentation, examples of sample code for particular problems, PDF creation on the fly using available tools and all dependencies required into ONE application or file. Various components to be installed can be selected at installation time. Then announce that they have M$ Access killer called GambasDB. I will then immediately jump onto the band wagon. I wonder why it has not happened before.
I mean, having Firefox as a browser in one tab, a wordprocessor in another and a spreadsheet in another and so on. This is what I'd like to see as FF is being extended. Question is...Is this possible?
That is the CPU I am using now. I am pretty satisfied with its performance...but I would like to know from Slashdotters who have AMD CPUs whether they too find their (AMD) performance good. I had an Athlon running at 933MHz, found that it dessipated lots of heat! I once got it to 71 degrees celcius. The Sempron, with its own fan is quieter and more reliable. The highest I have ever got it was 61 degrees celcius. I have not managed to get it hotter. Some people even mentioned that AMD CPUs always operated at higher temperatures, and have at times fried the motherboards! Is this true?
I'd like to push this CPU to its limits to see how I can get it really hot. Any ideas?
Well, I was working at this cargo handling company. We then needed to get prepared for the competition as all the airport operations were gonna be privatised. Management was interested in spending the least possible amount in dollar terms on this. I needed training that had to be got in Europe, and this does not come cheap for a company in the "third world".
None of the turn-key solution providers were local. To make matters worse, one management team member had heard that a potential competitor had a solution in place that was almost one-third of what I was suggesting. It was an impossible job to convince these people that the cash I was suggesting to be spent would be worthwhile.
I resisted what they were offering, but coded a report generator for them in access after which I resigned the job, telling my manager that my office environment had deteriorated so much to the point that it had become a "pioson" to ambitions of a young man like me.
Whenever viruses were lurking arround the web, I could hardly sleep - fearing that I would find chaos at the office. I could have got a heart attack!
In my expereince, clueleass managers, often owners or representatives of the owners are a very big pain. All they are interested in is the bottom line. The IT manager's job is not easy depending on the environment.
I do not believe that it is the third worst job as the report seems to suggest. There are nurses who MUST be prepared for death every day. In my present job as a day-trader, Linux is not supported, so I am still stuck with Windows, adding to my previously accumulated "stress".
Yes, it was only a matter of time. And they, (the Federal Government) will also figure how to [appropriately] tax the business. With a huge Federal Deficit, and nothing going well for America these days, I am one of those who support a handsome tax on those willing to "dish" out huge sums of money for a few hours of thrill in space. A few tens-of-thousands of dollars in tax will not be bad. To make matters worse more US jobs are being outsorced to Africa in addition to Asia. Surely the situation will get worse before it gets better.
...an effort. Google has become a verb, and an adjective! Heck, I hear it (Google) was even added to the English dictionary. The other day I was googling the drug "Cogentin", and sure enough, I got it. I have always googled and would comfortably ask anyone to google in case they cannot find info they need. I wish them (those who hope to compete), the best.
Planning space combat while we are being whipped in IRAQ? It does not take a lot of effort to plant an explosive device anywhere in public places in the US...now I hear these people planning space combat. We need a Saviour...may be Christ can return soon!
Who are GARTNER anyway? Aren't they the ones who were analysed in some CNN article to the effect that...
"...Several times, Gartner Group makes the mistake of equating Red Hat with Linux, which marks the company as completely clueless on the topic matter..." They also ranted..."Red Hat will not meet the Linux community's expectations of overturning Microsoft's dominance and becoming a billion-dollar software company..." Who said Linux's goal was to overturn M$' monopoly?
Info like this especially from GARTNER is not worth a read. I walked into a store just yesterday and wanted to buy a [new] mainboard. I wanted to know from the salesman whether the board I eventually bought (an MSI one) was friendly to Linux. I was supprised that he knew what he was talking about. I slapped on an AMD CPU and 256 MB of RAM, then left with a very good feeling that Linux is surely catching on. I am now downloading SuSE Personal as I type this message. I can tell you, that Linux is surely doing well.
I should say that what M$ is doing is pure Capitalism; Do one thing as a CEO: "MAXIMISE SHAREHOLDER VALUE." The OSS movement undermines this, and this is why M$ will be against free software. What would you do if you were in M$' shoes? I will answer that. You'd do the same thing.
I always thought that American schools, though not all rich, are able to afford computer labs. After all, the computer was invented there, and [major] computer advancement continues to come from the US. This made me think that poor schools in the third world will be able to utilise the technology discarded by the west. Now comes LTSP and budget cuts. These equipment will not smell the African fresh air: Why? because it costs money to send equipment abroad. I was begining to collect this equipment here [in Canada], but of late, I realised it was getting very slow. I guess the reason is that schools like those in Hawaii are the reason.
Slashdoters, please convince whoever funds those schools to continue doing so because if things do not change, no one will be willing to donate these computers for use in the 3rd world. I also realize that no body owes the third world a living.
On the other hand, if there was a way to boot these machines the NoMachine way, http://www.nomachine.com/, that would be great.
The strategy will be to have DELL, IBM, HP and others install that java onto all desktops they sell. Then "all" mankind will be able to watch those videos. I should mention that I do not know what agreements M$ has with OEMs in relation to additions/subtractions to Windows. With that done, M$ will feel kicked in the stomach ouch...!! And the streams work. Very soon they will be slashdotted.
BTW, I did not realize that mine was the usual FP!!
Does it have a programmable front-end, to which I can add business logic easily? This could include formatting [and verification] of inputs on the fly. Access calls them "input-masks". What about its report creation structure, and SQL. On many occasions, I would like to disable some widgets, in case a particular one choice has been made earlier.
Take an example of when an individual's age suggests this individual is an infant. In this case, I would immediately disable the widget that receives anything to do with children since an infant cannot have children. There is much more...all in the name of business logic.

I haven't switched [from Konqueror], and will not switch anytime soon because I find that: -
1: Mozilla Firefox had terrible fonts on Linux. I know there is the possibility of using one compiled with xft. But where is it? Whenever a new release is announced, the version producing those bad fonts is what I find.
2: I find that it is slower than Konqueror on most sites. My only use of Mozilla Firefox is on Gmail. I wonder why Google will not support Konqueror yet.
3: Firefox keeps some important passwords long after I have logged out of my online baking site. It is not the problem of the site but Firefox. I have confirmed this.
Please note that I am no expert in these matters. I just download stuff and use it as such.
Slashdotters, is anyone out there finding that the Reuters site is darn sloooow? I am using Mandrake 10.0 with KDE 3.2. Those using IE or Mozilla are telling me that it is not the case. Is Reuters involved in "Browser Arpetheid"?

OSS kills this idealogy by giving away goods for free!
