When venture capitalists at GV do it, they go to something called "The Machine." Axios has learned that the firm, formerly known as Google Ventures, for years has used an algorithm that effectively permits or prohibits both new and follow-on investments
You see, I confidently believe that you all agree that Google's messaging paradigm is in and remains in "chaos/confusion/mayhem/tumult land" right now.
I recently started getting pop-ups from YouTube, requesting me to sign-up for an "Ad-free YouTube experience." You guessed it right; yes, they wanted a credit card while signing up.
Then I later learnt that to get an enhanced YouTube, (one in which video remains visible even as I scroll through comments), I needed to provide a credit card.
Google are becoming greedy, and I don not like it very much.

While I congratulate the Chinese, I can almost guarantee that some country (which you all know very well), is going to scream: -
"That's our IP", "Why do the Chinese steal our IP?"
But the Chinese will borrow a leaf from their Russian friends and will retort, "the dogs bark, but the caravan goes on."
Congratulations to those Chinese, from one Slashdotter here.
I keep wondering why the fella decided to go to NZ, a western country that's a vassal of the USA. He should have gone to Russia. Snowden's appears to be doing quite well there from what I can tell.
...after his supervisor Kim Overbay ranked him, in January 2017, as the worst performing person on his team, despite him bagging the biggest bonus that quarter, and earlier meeting or exceeding performance expectations...
Now let's put the shoe on the other foot, shall we? If this had happened in say, Russia or any of those [other] countries, we would be saying: -
"Ohh! what do you expect?" "It's those people again....In Putin's Russia of course." "We're lucky to live in the west where we have our democracy and the `rule of law.`
still Piracy and they can sue people who downloaded it
And how exactly will they prove a particular person downloaded it? I know of a place where a single IP is shared among several folks between two floors of a huge apartment complex.
And BTW, since when has an IP been deemed a person?
The USA scored high on the "Ignorance Index" not so long ago. I am not sure I'd like to have my employees from a country that score so high on this index.
Moral of story: It's ignorant and silly to use a small segment of a population to draw overreaching conclusions about a country. That country you despise is our only link to the ISS and beats us hands down in a number of tech fields.
Thing is, they do not brag about it. Neither do they throw their weight around that much.
What company do you employ and what "authority" do you have?
Without divulging much, I can say this: -
I run a transport company - used to; to be strict as I am not that deeply involved now. Trust me, with our drivers, you are better off dealing with ``foreign brought up``, but legally working American employees.
I can almost guarantee that in about a decade and a half, you will be seeing what I am seeing now. And yes, I [still] have influence in the affairs of this company.
Meredith Jones, an Indianapolis-based director of human resources for a national restaurant operator, now overbooks interviews, knowing up to 50 percent of candidates for entry-level roles likely won't show up."
Then workers wonder why employers tend to favor foreign employees.
It's the attitude folks;
it's the work ethic;
it's respect for authority or lack thereof.
I am an employer and since gravitating to foreign "brought up" employees, I have been saved a lot of headache. I am not alone.
Please remember that whatever your choice, Google makes the bucks; when hotels are displayed as in the case you mention.
What you do with your knowledge, (the knowledge that such and such a hotel has been displayed), is immaterial.
I will give you some advice:
If you want to be of consequence, you and those who think like you do, will need to stop using the damn browser in big enough numbers, and from critical markets.
What's actually amazing about this accident is that a Model S hit a fire truck at 60mph and the driver only broke an ankle. An impact at that speed usually results in severe injury or death.
It's called Media bias. For that reason, I do not watch MSM anymore. If they're not regurgitating government propaganda, they are telling blatant lies.
From the WMDs, to Syria and the Mid East, to doping in games.
I wonder why they don't first make YouTube's interface a little better: -
My gripes...
1: On the desktop version [using Windows 10 and Chrome], losing view of the video once I start scrolling through the comments. The same applies to videos I have designated as those to watch later.
2: No video controls? Contrast, brightness, hue etc etc...
A study carried out at a college in the Philippines shows that students with better grades use bad passwords in the same proportion as students with bad ones.
This conforms that password quality is an irrelevant metric when looking at folks with better grades as compared to those without.
Question though is why they used the Philippines and not the USA, where my bias assumes the USA has more avenues where folks would be exposed to the need of a password [as a percentage] of the whole population.
North Korea has announced plans to dismantle its nuclear test site between May 23 and 25.
Just wait. Western nations are going take credit for this development; yet the North Korean leadership has stated that there's no need to test anymore as they've "mastered" how to place nuclear war heads onto ballistic missiles.
I am waiting for that proverbial "blame Russia" rant. Even with no [credible] evidence whatsoever.
Here's the MO; if investigations end up likely to point else where, put out press releases with words like "we know", "likely" and so on. If that fails, simply discredit the investigation itself.

Creating a single operating system capable of running all the company's in-house gadgets...
Google are doing this even though they've [miserably] failed to create a single unified messaging application!
How about Gmail, that continues to suck big time?

Police 'Facial Recognition' Test Fails to Recognize Anyone in London
I have always wondered what good thing comes out of the UK these days. Is there?
The UK empire (read the `Common Wealth`), declined long ago, sadly.

Now, let those who hate SONY begin trolling the poor company.
I used to love their products. Not any more.
I can see someone getting fired, fast!
Let me just advise:

So much for Apple's so called "best design" in the business.
You sometimes wonder whether technology writers are in Apple's pockets.
The question is: Have they all drank Apple's KoolAid?
Just advise shoppers that they use the products Amazon sells at their own risk - with no guarantees, implied or otherwise.
Doing this would be similar to the "guarantees" we get on software.
How about that?
To put it another way: You deleted your FB.
Is that the case?

The body of the OnePlus 6 is made of Gorilla Glass 5...
Why would anyone buy a glass phone? Please do not start me on the so called Gorilla Glass. I find that this glass breaks too; sometimes very easily.
For that reason, I will not touch this phone at all. Never!

Folks, it's just a matter of time before these Chinese beat us in fields that matter. They already are some of the best in the following fields: -
Computer Science - Our computer innards speak to this
Chemical Engineering - No wonder every home in the USA has something made in China
Energy - They are "up there" when it comes to Solar Energy, Hydro Electricity & Wind turbines
Chemistry - They start Chemistry as early as Middle School
Decision Science - High/fast execution is their MO. talk of building a "sky scrapper" in 19 days!!
Mathematics - This starts with kids as young as those of the kindergarten age
Engineering - Results already speak for themselves: Talk of the largest High Speed rail Network in the world
Materials Science - I bet your smartphone's screen or battery is made in China

Folks, I will have to say that this development is very welcome though what really saddens me is this: -
There's no Open Source Excel alternative that comes even close to what Excel can do.
To make matters worse, there's no [serious] effort to create anything capable.
