The default selection on here will be to select yes, and once one does that, it could become the default. Might I add...do not trust Microsoft.

[...]do high numbers mean that Ubuntu is the best distribution out there?[...]

No doubt, the (*)Ubuntus are great distros. One thing continues to baffle my mind in the general Linux world:

Why won't the fonts look beautiful by default?

Why, after all these years Linux has existed, do we have to seek help from Microsoft with its fonts in order to have a desktop that is a pleasure to look at?

Why is it that there is still debate as to whether wizzard like setps would be good for the desktop or the server? On this point, a wizzard like setup routine to handle an application like the Apache web server would make things easier for a lot of folks.

What makes me mad is that those who have the skills do do the needful, still refuse to see what seems to be obvious. Time will tell.

The placement of GNOME as the default desktop environment does not help matters either. This is not an endorsement of KDE either. But I hear KDE 4.0 will be a killer.

By the way...does anyone know whether the folks touting Linux as a possible Windows and Mac replacement have made its fonts beautiful by default?

This would not hurt at all. I hope slashdotters will not tell me to turn on the "byte code interpreter" or use "use freetype version xxx", or "load M$ fonts" and what not in order to have a decently looking desktop.

1: They, (the Chinese), are responsible for keeping our currency (the dollar) afloat since they are holding a good chunk of our debt.

2: They are the world's greatest manufacturer now and are not about to stop.

3: They produce most scientists and engineers than all major powers combined.

4: Because of the above, they managed to shoot a satellite from orbit. The US and Russia thought they were the only ones capable of this.

5: They keep low, just like the Russians, and are planning to manufacture their own [wide body] passenger planes.

This one issue has got lots of mention but these folks still expect the distros to cleanup KDE, which they rarely do.

I also hope that this release will make KDE fonts look sharp, crisp and beautiful by default. It is unfortunate that many times, we in the Linux community have to seek Microsoft's help on fonts in order to have a desktop that is a pleasure to look at.
