The majority of Windows and Mac devlopers don't use GPLd libraries because of the baggage/obligations that come along with the GPL. GTK is GPLd, but VCF isn't, and if you buy a license from trolltech, neither is QT.
Plus, the Windows & MacOS ports of GTK are hopeless hacks.
I agree. Most Defcon attendees aren't even close to being experts, but the Black Hat convention is a completely different story. The kiddies at Defcon would be bored out of their minds. It's more for "grown ups" - for example, speakers wouldn't throw raw meat at the audience.
I wish I could remember the URL for Slashdot's server statistics page, because last time I checked it, the vast majority of Slashdot visitors did use Windows, with MacOS coming in a distant second.
Being smug about the fact that nobody's succesfully spread a Linux virus yet seems stupid to me.
If the shit hits the fan, what are you going to do? How many of you have anti-virus software installed on your Linux systems? How well can that software work when there aren't any Linux viruses in the wild for the author(s) to provide protection against?

Now that you're the new posterboy for collaborative media, are you going to pull a "Rusty Foster" and run away with all of the money Wikipedia's users have donated to the cause?
I hope the free software movement is killed when laid off developers realize that they are the ones to blame for pushing open source on their part time.
Professional programmers who are open source proponents in their spare time? WTF? Is that like a skinhead who's a black panther in his spare time?
What if these 'doomed' companies are the ones who didn't outsource and they can no longer compete with the guys who are getting all their labor for dirt cheap?
I'm not sure. All I know is that a lot of IRC networks I've been on have suffered crippling DDoS attacks, and a lot of sysadmins I've talked to don't allow their users to run IRC servers because it usually results in them being hacked/DoSed.
True. With C90 you can put the declarations in new blocks (eg. { int i; }), but (thank god) nobody ever does that. I guess I just don't like these newfangled C specs.:)
libgdk_pixbuf and mozilla run on OSX, too.
No, because it doesn't.
Good one.
from when Sun withdrew from ISO/IEC and ECMA because they didn't want to give up any control over Java?
Hotmail and Yahoo!'s webmail do.
Surfers' Serials
Because the only time most people come into direct contact with Java is when they have to wait 10 minutes for a 20MB Yahoo Chess crapplet to load.
activity != popularity
Because Mozilla has bigger buttons.

If you're interested in that stuff, I guess it might be worth checking out.
You europeons sure do love your soft-rock.
Here's a device with a Tux logo on it.

How do you know those companies do "offshoring"?

You never know.

I doubt it. IRC networks get DDoSed all the time.
Hahahaha! Insightful?! Good lord!
Clearly you didn't read the whole blurb either. ;)
