"People are living longer and 50 years of copyright protection no longer give lifetime income to artists who recorded hits in their late teens or early twenties"
Why should artists receive lifetime compensation for whatever they created as teenagers? I'm not getting paid for the work I did 5 years ago even though it is still being used by a growing number of people.
Artists should be compensated for the work they are currently doing, not for the work they did in decades past.
I think we can assume that when "everybody" stops believing that will include the leaders of the RIAA, MPAA etc. If the leaders of those groups no longer believe in IP then they will naturally do something to change their business model.
So, either the business models will change from the inside or else "everybody" won't have stopped believing in IP.
This sounds like the kind of thing that would happen if someone at York Capitol Management owed some serious favors to someone at SCO . . .
I wonder what favors Darl has parceled out previously to get this?
I agree. It's also funny that they are seeking damages for the photographer - he got exactly what he asked for by the license he used. I would think that he is actually more liable for choosing that license than Creative Commons is for making it available.
No, I didn't go read the article "20% of women WHO HAVE VISITED BLOGS have their own blog versus 14% of men."
Even if I assume that it is "14% of men who have visited blogs," that statement is meaningless unless we know whether more men have visited blogs or not. If 14% of 2 Million men have blogs that's 280,000 men with blogs which would be more than 20% of 1 Million women who have visited blogs.
I made up the numbers, but the point is that we have to have the full story. The numbers we were given does not prove that more women blog than men.
Funny about that comment. I know lots of places which have speed limits that they don't really enforce. I wonder if it's anything like having immigration laws that you don't enforce . . .
It looks just like windows so I can fool those persons who want me as an IT consultant for free (family) into using it without knowing that they have left Redmond behind. As previously noted - they even get BSOD
Of course, the 19-year-old can just offer $10 to a passing 13-year-old in the mall in exchange for the 13-year-old registering at that kiosk and then giving the new account information to the 19-year-old.
That sounds no more reliable thanwhat they have now.
I was thinking the same thing. This is just added inentive to me to quit dual booting entirely.
Well, not entirely. I still have multiple flavors of Linux to boot between.
Why do fax machines even exist anymore? Most of them are just network printers. They should all be assigned email addresses rather than phone numbers so that I don't have to pay to send you my pdf form just because "our system is not set up to accept emails, only faxes" despite the fact that I communicate with you by email all the time.
It really is too bad they're starting with Picasa. Nothing against Picasa, it does its job, but it is about the easiest Google app to forget about when I want to do the same things on Linux. Google Earth would be a better choice, or Google Talk so that I can voice chat with my family while I am away. Picasa just doesn't do anything really new on Linux.
"Benefit of Vista over XP"
Most of the "casual computer users" I know would not notice any benefit of Vista over XP even if they do get the slick 3D interface.
I have used Sunbird and the Thunderbird plugin - there is also a Firefox plugin that I have used. Currently I don't use any of them because they are not integrated well enough as you have said. It turns out that I can get by without dishing out the money for outlook by just keeping my own calendar. If Lightning gets to be anywhere near as good as Outlook then I will rethink my position.
Patenting RSS advertising is not the same as doing it. Maybe "do no evil" Google is just protecting us by making sure nobody else got th epatent first . . .
Okay, nevermind, my psychosis is now over.
Telephone is for conversation, mail is for documentation.
Telephone is for communication in real-time, mail is for communication any time.
Telephone is for communication with someone on location, mail is for communication with someone on locaion or away.
Telephone is for temporary messaging, mail is for permanent messaging.
Telephone is for instant messaging, mail is for persistent messaging.
As a group, teens have more time to sit and chat than adults, hence the preference for Telephoning friends. Telephone is just the distance equivalent of hanging out at the mall.
I just had to see if it worked.
That's what I was thinking. I have used Google Scholar many times starting almost a year ago. It was in beta then and it's still in beta now so what's changed?
Absolutely right. $50 is a small price to pay to upgrade back to XP.

I'm all in favor of the Boy Scouts. Too bad they can be purchased by corporate interests.

I understand this, but I disagree with it.

I still ask - why Picasa first?

Sad but true.

The real questionhere is - how can we disable this "feature" if we don't want all that it offers?
arcing
mod parent up.

If shutting down all the services would prevent IE from running I would take the time to shut them all down on my XP machine.
