That makes no sense. Think about what we are talking about here. The modules have LEDs. If a repair is needed, the lane for the road wouldn't just be blocked behind a blind curve. The road would be striped for a mile before hand letting human drivers know that there is roadwork ahead. There is no way that a human could make the process more safe.
If the substructure of a road is failing, packing gravel in the hole on top isn't going to work as a long term fix.
My guess is that the job would still be at least as fast, since the tiles could be pulled relatively quickly, the substructure fixed, and the tiles relaid quickly. This is even assuming that the placing and removal of tiles couldn't be done by an autonomous vehicle.
That is a worst case scenario. Ideally, the process of repair could be automated. Since the tiles are standardized, it shouldn't be too far of a stretch for a specialized truck with flashing lights that drives over the malfunctioning tile. The driver stops. The truck brings down a clamp that pulls the malfunctioning tile and inserts a new functioning tile. The truck then initializes the tile. The driver then takes the truck back to the yard to load up for the next repair. Look at the automation that has happened with garbage delivery. A single driver can now cover 3 or 4 times the number of homes than two guys could do back before the trucks were installed with giant robot arms.
Even better would be that since the tiles are already wireless transmitting, there is no reason that an autonomous repair vehicle couldn't go out, identify the malfunctioning tile and do the entire job without any human at all.
Most people won't get it because we currently live in a time when it is heresy to say that men are better than women at anything, while it is also heresy to imply that women are not better than men at most things. We live in a misandrist society.
Yes, I do. I think you are now making up dangers that simply don't exist because you fear change. As well as you have fallen prey to the trendy idea that anyone under 25 is biologically "incomplete" and thus must be locked up until they are complete humans "for their own protection". Thus, you will feel warm and fuzzy about your decisions, patting yourself back for "protecting children" when in fact you are causing them harm.
A lot of that comes from the fact that we know there is no other way to communicate with the machine other than the very specific sounds it is looking for. With a human, you can speak slower. You can over emphasis the words they are missing. You can spell the word that hey can't understand, and say things like "B...as in BOY." With a human, you can even ask them to pick up their handset because their earphone is causing the sound to distort. All of the ways that you can make the communication clearer with a human will only make the machine go farther astray.
Then after all of that, with a human, you can make it clear that the phone call needs to be escalated because the person you are talking to is incapable of helping you. When you run into a human that insists on keeping the call to themselves when they cannot understand what you are saying causes just as much frustration as an automated system.
Humans trying to take over in an "emergency" will end up about as successful as if you started throwing baseballs at random people and yelling "think fast" just before it hits their head. The idea of a human taking over in a fantasy at best.
To be fair, leaving your 8 year old at home alone will get you arrested in many places, while sending your kid outside alone and locking the doors while you leave is perfectly legal.
The question to me is, are zebra mussles good enough at collection mercury that they could be used as a collection method for cleaning up mercury in the lakes?

That practice is highly dependent on your hair. My hair becomes greasy and matted if I go more than about 36 hours without a shower. after about 54 hours, even putting it in a pony tail won't hide how greasy my hair is.
A team mate of mine and I were recently let go from a company. It took everything we had to convince the IT manager NOT to just have our computers formatted when we left. He didn't want to do any back ups, to have anyone go through the files, nothing. Of course, he was actively sabatoging the system so that he could expand his position by bringing in a new system and "needing" all of the software to be rewritten from scratch because the old system "failed" and "couldn't be recovered".
I wouldn't go the 30% route. That only solves the short term problem. H1B visas are supposed to be used only when a business cannot find local talent. 'Prevailing Wages' is too easy to lie about and the H1B worker would still be a hostage. All the while, the 30% would be argued as a discriminatory punishment.
I say we solve both the immediate "lack of skills" with a long term solution. Require a local hire to shodow and be trained 1:1 by any H1B that gets hired. Require that the two be paid the same wages. This would make the cost of an H1B worker to be 100% of the cost of a local employee. That alone should kill the attempts to use H1B as a cost savings measure, but for those rare cases where the H1B visas are actually being used for their intended purpose, it would train a US citizen in the skills we are currently lacking. It would actually become a system of national security.
It has to do with where the person lives. When the parent says "foreign nationals", they are talking about someone that is neither a citizen of your country, nor living in your country. that means that they are not beholden to your laws. If you cannot figure out why it is more dangerous to hand over your data to someone who is not beholden to your laws than it is for someone who is, you are not thinking very hard. Xenophobia is no excuse, but Xenophobia is a non-sequiter to this discussion.
That is why we are all screwed. Cops do this all the time. Talk to them and they might arrest you for a crime you didn't commit based on something you said, or don't talk to them and they might arrest you for a crime you didn't commit. All the while, your courts know that they do this and support those actions.
I will agree that condos and the like can be just as bad or worse than renting, but really owning a real home give far greater control to improve your living conditions 99% of the time.
