BMI says that I don't stop being fat until I get down to 180 lbs.. At 180 lbs. I would be 11% body fat. So, according to the "Experts", as well as the system that the general public uses, I am fat if I have 12% body fat, and I don't classify as underweight with -28 lbs. of body fat. Yes, that is negative.

For the 10 years that Arnold Schwarzenegger was Mr. Olypia, he was classified not only as "overweight" aka "fat" but as "obese". Yeah, yeah, I've heard the whole, "Yeah, but that is only for body builders" BS. That logic says that if you have 20 lbs of fat but under that fat, you have the build of Mr. Olypia, you are morbidly obese. It is a bizarre cognitive dissonance.

According to BMI I would still be of normal weight at 132 lbs.. That is -27 lbs of fat. It says that my 'ideal weight is 165 lbs. That is 1% body fat. My body type might not be "average", but it certainly isn't all that unusual. For BMI to be 'average', there have to be just as many people on the side where BMI tells them they are just fine when in fact they are truly over weight. Most people just take the 'authorities' word for what is correct and what isn't.

I have to disagree. Maybe you come from a different part of the country than I do (California), but at least here, the fundamentalists have virtually no power, and our schools system is as much of a disgrace as any where. The problems here are not fundamentalists. It is that the nanny state realized that if you want to capture the minds of the people, it is best to indoctrinate them when they are young. What we have is an orphanage state. From the fact that most children spend more waking hours in the care of the state than their biological 'parents'. To the fact that an increasing number of children are fed more meals by the state than by their 'parents'. To the fact that social promotion is the standard. The list of problems goes on and on. Most of the end up surrounding the fact that the public education is a sacred cash cow. Heck, just this week, people were defending my complain that schools who claim to be underfunded in my city can afford to maintain very fancy stadiums and one even has an amusement park style water slide.

California even prior to the current budget crisis had among the highest student to teacher ratios in the nation. Moreover their funding per student is among the lowest in the nation.

That statement leaves me with two options. Assume that you are an idiot, or assume that you are lying. Claiming that education is underfunded and there are too many students in a classroom because the state has the most students per room and the lowest funding of the 50 states is like claiming that Mensa is failing because Joe has the lowest IQ in the room. Taking a ranking where someone must be at the bottom and claiming there is a problem because someone is on the bottom is either ignorant or dishonest. By your logic, if California had 2 students per classroom and spent 100k a year per student, and every other state had one student per room and spent 110k per year per student, California education would be underfunded.

Teacher pay is typically higher in California, BUT not in proportion to the cost of living in the state.

    According to your own link..

California's average of $54,348 was nearly $10,000 higher.

While $54k a year is not going to make you rich, it is certainly a reasonable salary in a state where the Mean Income is $48K a year. Of course you use 7 year old data to try to make your point. With today's data, the Mean yearly salary is $62k a year. That is well over 20% above the state's average. This is for a part time job no less. (No, don't try to tell the lie that teachers work 12 hours a day and don't get summers off.) That means they are making the same hourly pay as people who make in excess of $80k a year.

With all the complaining about pay I hear from teachers though, it would seem that very few of them have enough of a basic math education to figure out how much money they make. Of course, if you can't figure out that your hourly pay is over twice the state average, it is more likely that their financial troubles are more from personal financial mismanagement than underfunding.
