In Frege's terms, although the analysis is a bit different, the senses of morning star and evening star are different even though their references are identical. Here, we think of Frege's sense (Sinn) as the route to reference (Bedeutung) (see here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...).

Giving him any sort of appeasement only makes him think he can go back for more. Best thing to do is kick him in the balls really hard. And when he comes back (and he will), kick him in the balls harder.

Germany is kvetching over the U.S. Ambassador saying he wants to support right-wing nuts. So Germany calls for the State Department for clarification. Wrong move. The correct move would have been to send his ass packing and tell him he will never be allowed to represent the U.S. in Germany again, ever. When el Presidente Tweetie retaliates, and he will, kick out more U.S. diplomats. When he retaliates again, and he will, start charging the U.S. more for bases there since it is clear he doesn't want to defend NATO so Germany will need the money to bolster its defenses. Keep upping the ante and never give that asshole an inch. You will only lose by doing so. Better to dictate what your losses will be from your own positioning.

  7. Re:If Republicans were serious on Judge Orders EPA To Produce Science Behind Pruitt's Climate Claims (scientificamerican.com) · · Score: 1

Having a sense of proportion matters: discretionary spending is 1/3 of the budget and defense spending is about half of that 1/3. Most economists who have looked at the budget say that the 2/3's on entitlements is going to break the U.S. via debt. Defense spending is roughly $700 Billion out of about a $4 Trillion budget. The yearly deficit will be about $700 Billion but may rise to $1 Trillion. And with the Republican giveaways in the last tax bill boondoggle, economists expect $1 Trillion deficits every year until Congress does something.

Don't hold your breath. The Republicans' big idea is to grant more tax giveaways. The Democrats' big idea is to boost domestic spending. I don't see either side aiming to raise taxes. Whacking defense won't solve the problem. Taking money away from the Blue Haired is not going to pass.

Yeah, like climate change doesn't result in increased costs. Want to see the effects? Check with the fishes. Along the Atlantic seaboard, fisherman have had to cruise much further north because it turns out fish like cooler water and the tropics have been heating up...which also kills off the coral (which is another cost at the base of the food chain). This increases the cost of fishing.

That's only one effect. Increased cooling costs for the humans is another.

So you can either pay for increased power costs due to renewables, or you can pay for increase power costs due to global warming. You will probably choose the latter, which will come a quite a relief to the poor people in the tropics.

If you would learn a bit of systems theory, you wouldn't have such an uneducated view of power.
