I think the RSS/Shiv Sena guys are just using this to have their periodic 15 seconds of fame. As far as cafe owners censoring Orkut is concerned: It won't happen. The number of orkut users from India is really high. Its the cafe owner's bread and butter.

I totally agree. Especially the remark "...but try to find a basic C-only programmer today, and you'll likely find a guy that's unemployed and/or training for a new skill." That is just a plain stupid statement. There are many C only programmers who code firmware and are happily employed. And the "training for a new skill" part is plain defense. Everyone is training for a new skill.

Another thing these are not at all cheap in developing countries. I'm from India. The A9Home costs 499 Pounds which translates to around 40,000 Indian Rs which is a lot for a desktop computer which doesn't have a monitor. We can get assembled PCs (with monitor, speakers etc) for around 25,000 Indian Rs

The costs are low, therefore people who have given that excuse to not owning a computer will be happy to buy. Usage is simple, which will appeal to the same group of people.

I don't think that people who haven't owned a computer till now will go and buy one which doesn't have a monitor and runs RISC OS. IMHO they will be more comfortable buying a standard PC running windows.

    This straight from here:

Spyware is a general term used for software that performs certain behaviors such as advertising, collecting personal information, or changing the configuration of your computer, generally without appropriately obtaining your consent. You might have spyware or other unwanted software on your computer if:

    • You see pop-up advertisements even when you're not on the Web.
    • The page your Web browser first opens to (your home page) or your browser search settings have changed without your knowledge.
    • You notice a new toolbar in your browser that you didn't want, and find it difficult to get rid of.
    • Your computer takes longer than usual to complete certain tasks.
    • You experience a sudden rise in computer crashes.

Oddly enough Internet explorer satisfies all the above, maybe Microsoft AntiSpyware should remove it. :)

No, that would be bad. The amount of research going into OS research these days is already very less. The linux kernel itself has a very old monolithic kernel design unlike the mach or L4 which are multilithic. And AFAIK the Linux developers would not be too keen to work with the HURD developers.

Well first of all it is legal to have pornographic material on your computer in India, but it is not legal to trade porn (irony). The tape in question, is being seen in India, as not any ordinary porn movie, but it has become more of a scandal (which ,IMO, has blown out of proportion). This is mainly because things like these don't happen in India everyday. Parents are now even worried about giving Cell phones with cameras to their kids (for those of you who didn't know the tape was shot with the help of a phone and got transferred all over with the help of MMS).
