Aircraft, especially commercial airliners, don't ever tend to have just one of anything. I'd expect that they do or will have at least two independent GPS units. Probably 3.
They are the purveyors of joy and have thus far been more reliable in delivering their hot juicy goodness than the USPS. Thank God for Inferno Pizzeria.
And the first time any administrator champions his school's or school system's use of distributed computing, his boss (school board, taxpayers) will say:
"Great! Good for us. Now, exactly how much are we spending on this, who is overseeing it, who authorized it, and where are these funds being allocated in the budget?"
And that administrator will not have any answers because no one authorized it and they're dead-ass broke. Then someone would get fired. They can't afford to spend some unknown amount of money on supporting SETI.
Here's the thing I hate about sci-fi plots. Humans have created a vast global super-high-speed data network capable of transferring entire libraries of information across the planet in under one second, have sent actual human beings to the moon, have cracked the entire human genome and are genetically engineering crops and animals, but the simple act of creating a flying car is still beyond their reach?
I just didn't update to iTunes 8.2.1. And besides, there are other ways to sync the Pre besides iTunes. It syncs the way all other non-Apple phones sync. It just throws in iTunes syncing as an extra bonus, which is nice.
Well, the very existence of the meeting may have been covered by the NDA.
But the contract they signed with these guys was based on no business partnership whatsoever. Palm would have to basically just trust them to abide by the NDA.
The fact that they twittered about the meeting right after they signed the NDA probably didn't really foster trust in the relationship.
If I'm reading correctly, Palm hasn't done anything.
It seems they signed some NDAs and had a meeting set up. Then one of the guys posted to Twtiter something about the meeting, and as a result Palm canceled the meeting.
That's it.
Am I missing something? If not, these guys are tards and making a big deal out of nothing.
Well, the RC1 does work, fully uncrippled, until March of 2010.
Geez. Microsoft releases a release candidate of their next major OS and lets everyone on earth use it for free for 10 months..... and people still complain because it begins to nag the user after 10 months.
The Kindle is tied to an Amazon account. If the Amazon account to which the Kindle is tied is banned, then you lose all download access to Amazon, including the ability to download the books you have already purchased.
Basically, the guy claims to have returned only defective items - none related to the Kindle - to Amazon. They banned his Amazon account, which also happened to cripple his Kindle.
He notified Apple... by posting detailed photos on his blog after paying someone $5000 for a piece of equipment he knew did not belong to the seller.
Oh, and he loudly and repeatedly boasted about how much he spent on the device.
IM is basically worthless if you have SMS.
SMS > IM.
They've never sold hard drives that way. Not since I can remember anyway, and that goes back to my first 540 MB hard drive.
For hard drive manufacturers, one megabyte is 1,000,000 bytes.

Presumably the cannon barrel and structure will be rigid like a submarine. Therefore, nothing inside the cannon will be subject to water pressure.
There's a reason a submarine can quickly surface from 500 feet without the entire crew dying of embolism.

I envision all of that, too. But I think I'm about as close to releasing that product as Freescale is.
But my vision also includes tomato bacon pizza, so maybe my local pizzeria is actually the closest.

No, they don't. Sprint phones ship with 1.5 (Cupcake). We are waiting for 1.6 (Donut) to be released for the device.
Clearly we prefer incompetent jerks to either of the types mentioned in the summary :)
Best line I've read all day.
"It's believed the new technology will cost much more than normal print ads."
That's the kind of biting, insightful comment I love from big media.

Well, they're not really just "American" companies when their products are bought, used, and viewed all around the world.
Industry guidelines != law
My Pre has worked continuously.

Post of the day.

The state has additional restrictions on evidence gathering that private citizens do not have.

Only on Slashdot.
Site requires invitations.
There are other dialer apps you can install. You don't need the App Store for that.
And there are WinMo phones with actual buttons.
That may be, but there's still no censorship going on here.
Sorry, Bruce.
I certainly cry whenever I see a citizen or agency decide not to publish something based on negative public reaction and publicity.
Wait, what do you mean that's not censorship?
He returned items to Amazon.
Amazon banned his Amazon account.
