  1. Re:Consumer debt. on Vast Surveillance Network Powered By Repo Men · · Score: 1, Insightful

The above post was modded down, but I think it makes a valid point. Consumer Debt, creates an artificial "abundance" which plays into a common weakness of human beings. "If I have excess let me use it" We all know that we are in debt, but because the repayment of debt is not immediate, extra funds are used to buy luxury items instead of being used to pay down debt faster. The guy below said it much better.

I was talking with a bunch of folks recently, and I pointed out that consumer debt is relatively new. Sure there were layaway plans and credit with an individual store - your tab, but this huge industry that throws money out left and right to basically make us slaves.

I think many of our societies problems can go back to consumer debt: these invasions of privacy, college costs going through the roof, this treadmill of consumerism: cars, electronics, luxury goods.

All in all, things were a bit better when credit wasn't so easily available.

Before Henry Ford started financing his cars, folks had to have the cash; which made cars a luxury item. And most people had to take public transportation - which was viable because few people had cars. And of course, we wouldn't need all this oil if we didn't have so many cars.

When you sit down and think about it, consumer credit has really distorted our economy. We all have lost the need and desire to save.

The whole idea of cross contamination across the universe is what makes sense to me. Life in one of the "habitable" planets seeds life in another less "habitable" planet. As that newly arrived "life" thrives, it creates a hospitable environment for other types of organisms which might be arriving on some of the 100 tons of comet debris that enter into the planets atmosphere and/or evolving locally. Effectively the planet changes from a desolate wasteland into a place that can sustain life. Basically the life is what creates the hospitable planet, not the other way around. There was a program on a few days ago about this same idea a few days ago.

Experienced users may be tempted to skip the first few chapters; resist this temptation and you will discover something new (I did :) * Accurate: it is very difficult to be detailed and precise when describing such a complex product. Chris does it excellently well. * Real: handles real world malware, packers, and obfuscated code * No fillers: it is direct and concise * Profound: this is not just a collection of recipes or tricks, but will give you a better understanding of the IDA architecture, thus saving you from unnecessary frustration. Knowing the limitations of your tool is just as important as knowing its capabilities. It comes tons of code snippets, scripts, and sample modules. Programming for IDA Pro is covered too: from simple plugins to processor modules. http://hexblog.com/2008/08/the_ida_pro_book_1.html ----This is not my blog.

Say for example some guy runs at you with a knife and you get scared the effect on your nervous system is the same as drinking coffee. When people drink coffee who don't normally do so they might feel nervous or on edge because their body has not toned down its response.

Imagine running around in a war zone with danger all around, the effect on the body and mind would be similar (but not exactly the same, so please don't yell at me for comparing war to drinking coffee. I know war veterans are heroes and we shouldn't demean blah blah blah). So as I was saying, the effects on the body of constant stress found in war are similar to our drinking the 5-6 cups of coffee we're used to.

Entrepreneurs pin hopes on blimp hybrid

    Tuesday, January 3, 2006

ALLIANCE, Ohio (AP) -- Two former co-workers and friends who started Ohio Airships Inc. in 1999 are putting a lot of time, effort and money into a business concept they hope will fly.

Brian Martin and Robert Rist think they are close to testing a prototype of their patented Dynalifter hybrid. They announced last week that their airship -- part blimp and part airplane -- has been completed, and they hope to conduct a test flight this spring.

The vehicle is stored in a plastic-sheeted hut near a cornfield in Lexington Township, about 50 miles southeast of Cleveland.

"Edison tried his light bulb a thousand times. I don't want to do this (prototype) a thousand times," Martin said.

The 120-foot-long, two-seat aircraft has a nylon cover over the patented interior structure.

It will get lift from 16,500 cubic feet of helium and two small ultralight engines. Martin said he and his partner have raised and spent $500,000 to get this far on the Dynalifter.

Most of the money went to feasibility studies and engineering work.

"We've done everything on paper and everything on a computer and everything in a wind tunnel that you can do," Martin said.

Martin and Rist hope the Dynalifter will help bring in a new transportation era. They see it as a way to move materials at a lower cost than jets and at a higher speed than ships. They think it could be used in emergency situations, such as Hurricane Katrina, to transport supplies.

It might have military uses, such as delivering equipment and supplies to sites that might not be easily reachable. Martin said he and Rist have had meetings with Pentagon officials.

Their prototype is about one-eighth the size of their plan for a 990-foot-long Dynalifter Heavy Freighter. They also have plans for a smaller version at 761 feet.

The two met while working at Mount Union College's computer department. They don't have an aeronautical background. But what they do have, Martin said, is a willingness to experiment.

"The Wright Brothers did it, too," he said.

A test pilot, Forrest Barber, will be seated in an exposed cockpit under the belly of the Dynalifter when the test is conducted.

"It will be quite an experience," he said.

The Web site www.myairship.com keeps tabs on the airship industry and lists 25 active manufacturers and 12 companies, including Ohio Airships, in the design and construction phase.
