I live in Regina. I've also lived in Meadow Lake for 12 years. Born here, lived here all my life. Saskatchewan is awful. Once I have my degree, I'm leaving Canada and either going for a PhD or working. Just get me the hell out of here!

    Time for mythbusters :D!

It's not great in Canada. I live in Regina. You want broadband in Saskatchewan? You better live in Saskatoon or Regina, or the suburbs / immediate towns of the two cities. You don't? Tough shit. My friend lives 10 minutes of of town. All he can get is 28.8 (our phones lines can't support 56k). I imagine it's the same across Canada - you better live in, or close to a major city, or you're SOL.

BTW, do you think that broadband is widely available in the Yukon, NWT, or Nunavat? I really, really doubt it. It's pretty easy to sing the praises when most of the population lives in the extreme south, by or in a city, usually in Ontario or PQ.

  4. The Trade Off with High Security... on Security for the Paranoid · · Score: -1

...is that if someone breaks in and does something illegal, you look either a) stupid, or b) a liar and guilty.

Lawyer: So Mr. Admin, you say that an intruder gain access to your NAT admin, redirected ports such that he had access to your server's SSH service, spoofed packets to get around your packet filter rules, used a buffer overflow to gain root access, then installed a peer to peer service to download all of that g0at pr0n we found on your server? Or did this "intruder" use a pneumatic drill to weaken the steel walls around your server room, and a high power laser to cut through the doors, then break the lock on your server, remove the HD, take it home, crack the encrypted partition, put g0at pr0n on it, return the HD, and repair all damage done?

    Admin: Uh, yes?

Lawyer: You sir are a liar, an incompetent admin completely guilty of all charges, and an insensitive clod towards the sexual exploitation of goats!

    *Admin breaks down sobbing*

Next time, just run an unpatched Windows box, so you have an excuse for your g0at pr0n. :(

res(t)aurants are public property, not private, unless specifically stated in a sign at the door "members only"

Bullshit. This isn't a city park. The pub has an owner who owns the bar. It's private property. Perhaps in some crack pot communist third world country with a nutcase despot, it may be true. (Cue Soviet jokes). Ah, what the hell:

In Soviet Russia comrade, the pub owns YOU!

That's like saying my house isn't private property because I don't have a "members only" sign outside the door. If someone just waltzes in without my permission, that's trespassing.

How about I dictate what you can and can't do in your house. Despite that it's your private property which you own, I'll play the dictator and say you cannot smoke, drink, or view porn in your house. Maybe I'll just waltz in and help myself to your fridge. Hey, if it's public property and I'm a member of the public, why not? Sounds really fair, doesn't it?

Let the pub owner decides what he wants - if you don't like it, simply go elsewhere! No one has a gun to your head, exercise free choice.

My neighbour owns the sports bar here, and our government (Saskatchewan) banned smoking in bars. That, plus the lack of NHL this year, guess how he's doing? Worst year ever, but hey, our great socialist leader is doing the right thing, dictating his morals and shoving them down our throats :(.
