What you want is Star Trek? I mean seriously anyone who thinks that any sci-fi television show (or possibly any TV show) is going to create as much success as Star Trek needs to get their head examined.
What the hell are you talking about? Who said anything about Star Trek? You are ripping on someone for something that was never said. Maybe you should take off the Klingon makeup and read the post again F I R E F L Y....one of the most innnovative sci-fi series in a while.
Sheez.....You are as bad as the people who bash the new star wars movies because it is the hip thing to do...you make yourself look the fool...
No doubt, Firefly was awesome. I am in hopes that the movie will spawn interest from tv execs, and maybe we will see firefly come back to TV with more episodes.
Get on a plane - *SCAN*; "Sorry sir, we believe your heart may give out on this flight and we don't want any lawsuits"
While you may not want it, there is always the possibilty that eventually it will be required, so instead of *SCAN*; "Sorry sir, we believe your heart may give out on this flight and we don't want any lawsuits", instead you will get *SCAN*; "Sorry sir, but this airline requires we have access to your VeriChip in the event of a medical emergency"
I keep seeing all the upscaling and letterbox complaints, but really, the problem lies not with the cable companies (with the exception of overcompression techniques) but with the decoder box provided by the company. I have TW cable in Florida, and the initial offering of HD boxes was not compatible with my 4:3 HDTV. It would only receive 16:9 and would not put the signal into letterbox format. Thus, all my HD channels broadcasting in 16:9 would stretch vertically to fill the screen.
So, I returned the HD box back to TW and stuck with my PVR for a year. This past spring they got a new brand of box that provided letterbox format for all HD signals, plus a zoom feature for programs not shot in 16:9, thus eliminating the side bars.
The comparison between my HD and standard channels is quite simply amazing. If you have crappier quality on an HD set than you do on a standard TV then there is something seriously wrong with your setup. I would take a long hard look at your equipment and setup.
Well said. I especially like this excerpt from your link...
Arthur C. Clarke compared the space elevator project to Cyrus Field's efforts to build the first transatlantic telegraph cable, "the Apollo Project of its age"
I like how they reworked Jabba in the SWSE to look more like the others. But they goofed on the eyes. Should have given him a little more red, they are too yellow still.
The Walt Disney Company has shut down its cel animation studios. Pixar will probably leave Disney after The Incredibles and Cars have completed their runs. There's trouble in Miramaxland. Now I know why Michael Eisner decided to get out in 24 months: there won't be a Disney left. What does survive of the company will assume a role similar to that of Cedar Fair, which runs a few amusement parks.
Man, you really are uninformed, aren't you? Disney has four original CG movies in the works, plus a few Pixar sequels in the works at Sequel Studios. Eisner is a driving force behind the fall of Disney...Eisner getting out? The faster the better, as far as I am concerned.

Gahhh.. "let me upload this computer virus and take down the absolutely unprotected and unbackuped mother ship
No, not really.
What does bother me though is that you seem more concerned with the fact that they uploaded a virus to a mothership, but don't seem to be concerned with the fact that it is a mothership filled with alien creatures hellbent on destroying buildings by parking giant city sized ships over them which only have one weapon coming out the bottom. This coupled with the fact that they have to use our satellites to talk to each other because they aren't smart enough to build smaller ships to sit high enough above the earth to allow for their communication.
So, no...them uploading a virus to disable the shields on the mothership really didn't bother me...
How will that let 911 operators do their job better?
How does *almost seeing* the situation help? I mean, granted, they're probably not going to be the crappy webcam quality cameras we think they are, but still it escapes me how this will actually proactively help an 911 operator help a victim. It might help them after the fact, but not before or during.
Please don't tell me this was a serious question...
No, no paradox here...does the computer weigh any more than it did before starting the simulation...no.

Actually, Germany is definately implied as this story was written just after the end of World War II (Ignore the date at the end of the article, that was the date that the collection of stories was published). If it is late 1940's and people with names of German descent are used, it is definately pointing towards Nazis.
I've had trouble getting Sunbird to work with any Calendar but the default. Also, when downloading and publishing remote calendars, all I get is a blinking icon (of two rotating arrows), with no further progress. Is Sunbird *really* ready for the public yet?:)
Tada!!!!! For those who don't pay attention before downloading and installing... At the moment Sunbird is in an experimental, though quite stable stage. We offer no release builds at the moment, only builds intended for testing and development purposes.
I use Trillian, so it doesn't matter to me what service they use. If google does an IM service, it won't take long to get a plugin to allow my client to talk to it.
Stop listening to crap, download http://irate.sourceforge.net/ and start rating. Pretty soon, you'll have a better and more novel and varied music collection than the old companies could hope to provide.
I like the concept fo iRate, but they need to do something about download times. I have been running it for two days and I have a whopping three songs, one of which stinks, one which gets a Yawn, and then Beth Quist, which is pretty darn good. and there are only three songs on the list that still need to be downloaded. Some more options for the user, and increased download times would be sweet.
Well, I would assume that every write goes to the next unused block. So, for instance, in the case of a database segment that is constantly being updated, each time there is a write to that segment, the new data is written in the next unused block, and the block that was changed would then be flagged as free. So as writes occur, the drive will "walk" across the memory matrix so as to prevent undue wear and tear, and greatly increase the life of the drive. In the event that the drive is full, or nearly full, the problem comes back into play because the data has nowhere to "walk" to, or very limited area to "walk" in.
I agree on a standard hard drive this would not be very feasable, but remember, this is a flash device, and the fragmentation is pretty much a moot point as there are no moving parts. The slowdowns would be extremely minor, or even non-existent, depending on their algorithms for pulling the data from the matrix.
Yes there is...there is a whole section of the base where they create hydrogen fuel and the by-product is pure water. There are clear water pipes all over that area.
Good job...

Look at Armageddon, Mars Attacks, Independence Day, Starship Troopers, etc...to name a few.
So what are the bad ones?
