There are legal ways of wiretaping, but not the widespread random tapping that actually is working. When they cought the message made about an attack on the Brooklyn Bridge, they had no idea what they were looking for. It was simply a random message. Nice try justifying all of the taps that don't pan out. The bottom line is, if not for this, the Brooklyn Bridge would not be there right now and many more New Yorkers would have died in another terrorist attack. If they want to tap my phone, FINE! I don't care. The Quakers were peaceful, and simply against the war. They have every right to be against the war, but how can you tell for sure that they are truely peaceful? I shure as hell wouldn't trust everyone's word on it. I'm glad they're in there investigating people like that. Where I work, there are all sorts of rules and regulations. Many of them are impractical and some simply do not work at all. In order to keep things moving, you have to ignore some of them. The same goes for the law. There are some laws on the books that are utterly rediculous and seem to serve no pourpose whatsover. At one time, they made sense, but things change. If you don't adapt with the change, you cease to be. I very strongly belive in freedom. I've marched and have been to rallys in support or against one law or another many times. I also understand the need for seperation of power, but there are some things that have to be done that everyone will not agree on. These things are definately not popular and probably never will be, but they have been done many times in history and will be done many more times in the future when the need arises.
They display PDF and Sony's own BBeB format(Broadband Electronic Books), which of course, no one will use. While HTML would be nice, it isn't what this was designed for. PDF will assure that you'll be able to read pretty much anything you buy though.
I can agree with a lot of what you said, but one thing I disagree with is Haliburton. They got a lion's share of the defense contracts before the current administration was even in office. Also, Iraq is in far better shape than it was 5 years ago. We've done massive rebuilding in there, but you just don't hear about it. Where a majority of the country was lacking in utilities and education, we have worked to bring them to the entire country. I think that was just a coincidence that was taken advantage of. One of the things that has angered me most is the selectiveness of media coverage. I'm in the Military and have access to a lot of intel. A lot of what gets reported is skewed and a lot of major things that happen don't even get mentioned in the news. I've quit watching the news completely myself because I can't trust what they report and they have a serious problem with priority of coverage.
I see where people might be mad about this. I think the issue of it being illegal is debatable, underhanded, without a doubt, but maybe not totally illegal. I'm not positive why they did this in the way that they did. My only conclusion would be that there are far too many phone taps to realistically get warrants for all of them. I don't believe that the Executive branch wouldn't simply break the law for no real reason. Putting themselves at risk like that just doesn't make sense unless there is a benefit. Regardless, I would rather have them listen to every phone call I make and feel safer than have to live worrying where the next bomb will go off at. The end of this article shows a very good reason why this is important. http://www.desertsunonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/artic le?AID=/20051227/OPINION01/512270304/1004&vm=r
This is another very good article on why they were tapping. http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTI CLE_ID=48446&vm=r I think we need to weigh which is more important to us, the possibility of being listened to, or our lives?
I played Furcadia for a few weeks after a few of my friends insisted I try it out. It really is quite interesting and is a very good game. I prefer action myself though, and with no combat, it wasn't as interesting to me personally. If you like beating people in PvP and big explosions, this probably isn't for you, for conversation, puzzles, and roleplaying, it's a truely great game.
This won't cure anyone who already has it though. It's a preventative measure. It may get rid of these diseases in 30 years once it's been used widely, but it's not going to help anyone right now.
Useing the mass public for something like this seems risky. For instance, right now I'm so tired I'm seeing stars and this thing isn't even on my computer.
EVE is a great game, although lately they've been having trouble keeping up with the quickly growing population and the really busy systems lag a bit during peak hours when there are over 20K people on the same server. The good news is it's not that bad of a problem most of the time and if you die due to lag, the GMs will generally reimburse you in game. It is difficult to compare this to a game like Guild Wars where your group is alone during gameplay with the exception of PvP. This also differs greatly from SWG where there are many diffrent servers and the one you're on may be empty. The total number of players makes a far bigger diffrence in EVE as it's directly related to how many people will be in the area you're at. It dosn't matter if there are 50,000 players on one server if there's ten on yours. I also think it makes less of an impact in Guild Wars as it's quite divided and the only places it'll really show at is the cities. It's hard to make a standard rating for all of these diffrent games because each one is effected diffrently by total numbers. The same is true of the rest of the games out there.
Hell, Michigan has frozen over. So the question is, are pigs growing wings around the world or is Dell really switching?
Step 1: Found the Airial Pig Racing Leauge.
Step 2: ???
Step 3: Profit!
I'm sorry, I just logged in on the off chance that I would have some mod points so I could mod you up to the point that you deserve, but I don't. I'm 22 and I have Far Far too many friends who are married and have kids. Don't get me wrong, I think marriage is a great thing and I love kids as well, but I also have Far too many friends who are now divorced. As for the money aspect, it seems a bit cold at first, but it really does make sense.
I know open source is free, but that hasn't mattered to the government in the past. Around here, they tax bsed on how much they decide something is worth, reguardless of how much you actually paid for it. I've seen cases where people have paid more in taxes for buying the car than they did for the actual car. If your grandfather sells you his farm for a dollar, they aren't going to tax you on that dollar. They'll asses the local property value and tax you based on that. So who's saying Open Source will be excluded from the tax? I didn't see that in TFA.
So what? This guy's basicly just taking his work home for fun. Yeah, he tinkered and built one on his own, but he should be able to if he's the NASA expert on it.
I'd played SWG since early 04 and quit after the combat upgrade. I've been playing EVE recently, Love the game. Ever since NGE came out, there has been a constant stream of new people coming into EVE saying they just canceled their SWG accounts and are looking for a new game. How do you plan on making it to #1 when everyone's leaving? I suggest you release a new expansion called "Reset to before we screwed everything up" That's you're only prayer.
RTFA: "But as the majors take their first tentative steps, Ledford and his peers keep racing along. The most dramatic example of this attitude is their tolerance for folks who have the potential to put them out of business: pirates trading anime online. And not just trading, but competing to see who can create the best subtitled version of a particular show."
Unless the artical is flat out lieing, they support free downloading.

So even if God does answer my prayers and my boss gets sucked into a black hole, it'll take forever.

The reasoning behind this is obvious. "Big chunk of change." Isn't that the driving force behind everything the government does anymore?

No, I keep my sword next to the computer.
How was WOW doomed if they're now on top?!

Who modded this insightful? Things like this is why we need a Very Very Very Unfair option for Meta Moderating.
It's the radiation from the monitors that killed them. Everyone stay away from computers, they'll kill you! No, wait! I'm on a computer! Aahhh!
