what you need is http://code.google.com/p/pagecache-mangagement/
This tool allows the user to limit the amount of pagecache used by applications under Linux. This is similar to nice, ionice etc. in that it usually doesn't make an application go faster, but does reduce the impact of the application on other applications performance. This is especially useful for applications that walk sequentially through data sets larger than memory, as discarding their pagecache does not reduce their performance (although this tool does add overhead of about 2%).
See http://lwn.net/Articles/224653/
Although it is little more than a proof-of-concept it seems to be fairly
useful. When running
pagecache-management.sh dd if=100-mb-file of=foo
or
pagecache-management.sh cp -a/usr/src/linux-2.6.20/usr/src/foo
>Relatively new 03/16/2005 Linux kernel 2.6.11.4 >Quite disappointed with (old) GCC not much use if you have a Pentium-M notebook >X.org new February 9, 2005

I am really amazed with all these adblock, flashblock, pop-up block... Will it not cause the advertisers and other comapanies lose money and lead to another dotcom collapse.
while flying? (or visit slashdot?) And what do you do after you land in US/Japan. Go to hotel/home and take sleep? I think it is time you live life, recharge yourself?
I would like to see a firefox extension that will upon pressing enter in the "search bar" divide the browser into two halves where you can see results of google and Yahoo.
Trim back your plugins. For the most part you only need the following:
EWH32.api, printme.api, Search.api
Make a backup of the plugin directory (folder, whatever)
X:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 6.0\Reader\plug_ins
And then delete all exept the three mentioned above from the original plugin dir (folder, whatever)
Should load MUCH faster.
Are we not talking about a software written by someone named Linus?
I second this post. I remember that DuPont has a manufacturing facility in Southern India, which was offshored because of strict environmental standards in the US. The big MNCs do potential damage to the environment in developing world in the name of costcutting, offshoring.
As to countries like China or India, well, in the future there could be a polution tax imposed on goods imported from those countries. Furthermore, didn't China announce that they are switching to nuclear power?
Really? US and many of the rich countries in the west do not want the developing countries to develop nuclear technology for fear of making them global power. At the same time you do not want them to pollute using fossil fuel. How can the developing economies live?
A huge tax must be levied on every liter of gasoline sold in the rich countries and spent on relief money for the floods in impoverished islands threatend by rising sealevels.
I can see many people have recd (and delivered) lots of swearing ins. Can anything be done like recording a swear and complaining it with your local courts. What is the legal status regarding swearing?
This new year I bought my HP laptop and was thinking about extending warranty; I think I will never step into it.
M$ teamup with Intel and AMD and put some sort of 25 digit key inside the processor and when you run Windows you can unlock it only with a key from M$. When you sell the processor you can sell it with the decrypt key.

And what about hurricanes? Who will airlift these guys without visa?
For a short time last year one could buy nx5000 HP notebook with SuSE 9.1 pre-installed (only in the US) http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/en/sm/WF06a/3219 57-64295-89315-321838-f33-395654.html
Configure and buy link in the web page does not work now. I remember some press release HP announced that they would prefer to enter this (pre-installed linux) market and were testing the feasibility in the US. I think every other linux journal http://www.linuxjournal.com/article/7845 had rave reviews including one at MSNBC http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5831949/ but alas all has failed to deliver.
HP sponsored even a KDE summit in Germany by supplying Linux laptops. http://dot.kde.org/1094715499/
Will they ever port it to BSD?

You can take it to home/beach in the weekends.
Linux
May be Linus knows the answer
rename the article as "Torvalds Switches to G5 hardware" instead of trying to create ripples in the industry.
