As I recall, the hardware manufacturers were not pleased the last time there was a push on tablet format PCs.
Microsoft left them with a lot of financial losses after pushing them quite aggressively to run with Windows Tablet Edition, only for it to fail to take off.
I believe HP was one of the companies affected the most, and I notice they're not listed in these new manufacturers.
At least you've got the strength of character to admit that we all occasionally think or do slightly crazy things.
If more people would demonstrate this, then perhaps it would help silence a few of these people who still persistently claim to be affected by wi-fi in the face of all the evidence against them.
Out of curiosity, I'm wondering if it's common for US houses to be of the wooden construction I often see in videos / pictures of the US. Essentially we have a similar albeit much smaller structure in most UK gardens called a "garden shed".;-) If the lab was constructed mainly of wood I could see some concern in placing it in a "tornado alley" region.
Anyway, my question is as follows - are there many wooden-constructed homes in the US compared to more reasonable materials like brick or stone? If so, what is the rationale behind this?
No offence Sneeka2 - I was refering not to you, but the swathes of USAians on slashdot and digg who seem to thrive on hearing how terrible it's supposed to be in the UK.
I'm afraid they seem to be only one step removed from the USAians of the past who presumed that everything beyond their borders was simply mud and third world countries.
Thankfully, the internet has changed a little of those perceptions.
If he could grow a pair, perhaps he wouldn't be abandoning his country because things are a little difficult.
Also, I can imagine you Americans are loving this type of story as usual. "Oh, the CCTV, it's just like Big Brother!", disregarding the fact that you've got an enormous plank in your own eye.
Personally, things aren't as bad as he makes out. I will be staying here myself, making my country a better place to live in.
Frankly, I'd be less than impressed at the Immigration side of his new country if he gives his reasons for leaving the UK as the ones quoted.
Wouldn't all you need to do is just wait, and let Update Manager install the updates from the very short time between the RC and the released 9.04?
I'd imagine there's virtually no difference apart from some last-minute fixes.
I'm also worried that someone will try and complete David Gemmell's Troy trilogy working from "notes". It's terrible he died after completing book two, but I hope they just leave it alone...
I propose we move to a system of defining planets where if it's on the list labelled "Official Planets List by Old Astronomers Who've Served Their Time", then it's a planet, and then dissenters can simply be dealt with by using the standard answer of "It's not on the list - so it's not a planet".:-)
Eastern Europeans and Russians frequently pick wild mushrooms for fun (and to eat), given that when they are children their parents *explain* which mushrooms are safe to pick, which ones are poisonous, and which ones are easy to confuse with other species and not to pick unless you're really sure.
Compare that to my UK upbringing where all children were warned from the youngest age *never* to pick any wild mushrooms as "you'll probably just poison yourself" and that "even experts can pick the wrong ones sometimes" (must be pretty feeble experts then!). My Polish girlfriend was equally bemused and appalled (as she is by most of these situations in cultural matters) when I recounted to her the differences in Western child raising techniques...
It wouldn't surprise me at all if there were seven million illegal file sharers in the UK. It's hardly an underground thing any more is it?
She builds her castle out of them.

There are two Alan Coxes, one for Linux and one for FreeBSD. It's confusing but there you go.
What? Did they fork him or something?
Thank you so much for writing this.

Which country is this, out of interest?

You're forgetting the other likely possibility.
They could have really high standards, and they're all shagging the same few handsome, rich men, and the other guys are left out in the cold.
That doesn't sound so great to me, not feeling myself to be either rich or handsome.

I can't wait to hear what the crackpots over on Youtube are going to make of *that* experiment.
Will it be "NASA attacks alien city on the Moon"?
Or some nonsense about reptilians / greys / 2012 / Planet-X / NWO / Morgellons / HAARP / chemtrails, etc, etc.
Only time will tell. All we really know is that it will be unbelievably stupid.

This is just how I feel about Hunt The Wumpus!
Or perhaps "Rogue" would have been a better example?

It's still too small. The phone has to be at least... three times bigger than this!
If we want to keep on breathing, then everyone's going to have to get onboard.
Are you sure - I thought this was the case back in 2003? Or is that just in the UK?
Perhaps we could get to work on developing some kind of 'stillsuit' technology?
...could be the answer. ;-)

I'll second that!

Um... how could you have a circle and claim it's a one-dimensional shape? A circle is a 2-D shape. A line is 1-D, as it exhibits only length.
