Google sold out when it went IPO IMHO, now it is just another evil empire hiding behind the corporate branded 'trustworthy little guy' image that people still embrace.
Now, with this sort of 'search log' feature, they can easily analyze and sell your information to whoever they want, including annoying spammers, and the typical 'marketing research' firms.
Not that it relates to you personally, aside from your IP (unless you are stupid enough to reveal personal info on your google/gmail account).
This is as much of a pointless and evil tactic to collect/analyze user data as their useless desktop search utility.
ok, for users who migrate from windows, but are too ignorant or in-experienced with linux (or simply lack reading comprehension + google skills), they can simply use Fedora/RedHat/SuSE/Mandrake/Etc.
The LSB is adopted in MOST of the widely used distros, but also enables them to be easily exploited (theorectically), compared to a customized system that doesn't rely on the LSB.
I prefer linux to not use the LSB, as I prefer to compile and configure things according to MY needs, not the needs of the mass. (just my personal preference)
why not just listen to cnet and news.com.com, etc., like some lamebrained CIO corporate scrub who can't grasp the concept of interoperable co-existence.
the debate about windows vs. linux is as pointless as digital vs. analog.
It's all subjective to the user, the environment, the purpose of use, budget, and experience.
eweek, pcworld, cnet, and all of those commercial 'news & market review' sites are all biased towards microsoft.
Their frailed linux sections are generally written by windows-2-linux migrants who feel so compelled to discuss the system, only weeks after their 1st installation.
Businesses and lamebrained execs (CTO/CIO's etc) read that stuff like it's a bible, sad!
"be careful what you wish for, you may just get it"
A classic example of how (greed-driven) proprietary software patents hinder the inter-operable/cross-platform development process, and limit themselves to remedially redundant stages of deployment. =/
omg "anti-aliased fonts" so much for cutting edge!

I personally think that it should be encouraged to continue to break the monotony of repetitive processes, and continue the learning/experimentation process, in between projects, if at all possible.
The development process can never be fully mastered, as it continuosly changes with technology, time, as well as creativity.
To hinder the development process to 'work with what we have now, and ignore what else is available', is obviously limiting to the potential growth of the company.

why would anyone want a tool from microsoft or google to search their desktop.
People, the more pointless software you install, the more pointless it is to combat the threat of commercial agenda implementations such as spyware and other proprietary software.
I don't know about you, but I friggen HATE IM programs, especially AIM or Yahoo Messenger!
The only reason I use AIM is to chat w/ my girlfriend, and the only reason I use yahoo messenger is so that all the minions at work can easily msg while I run their frail company from my living room.
If it were up to me, they'd all be horded down in a botnet on my lan and targeting random sites for DDoS attacks, but I like my job, so... =/

that's all I care to say about that, thanks for listening to my binary.
Tell your boss to ignore these 'security expert' trolls and to simply hire a 12yo script kiddy who uses ubuntu or something. *duh*
sounds fun!
do we really care what infoworld says?

Use both, why limit your capabilities!

or as I like to call, a conservative liberal.
go home Hilary!
I can just see it now... a backdoor call-home script embeded in urchin to send logs to google, for 'marketing research only'.
google is not my friend, sorry!
the guy is a commie, go figure.
then again, most Americans can barely use email properly, much less type a shell command.
