I've only heard of one method that had even a half-chance of slowing people down - if they buy a pdf ebook from you, embed their CC# on every page of it. They'll do their best to make sure that nobody else reads the thing!
Then I guess he is free to start his own collection aimed at scholarly use. The he can be on the receiving end of criticisms that he didn't design his system for normal humans instead of academics.
I don't think that this is a problem for a completely different reason: The more abusive, intrusive, and creepy DRM gets forced on people, the more people will flock to the free alternatives (If they don't get shut down for "Software Patent Violations"). Dad and Mom may use Windows at work, but Jr. and Jane are using OSX, a Linux liveCD, or some other "L447" system to bypass the parental spyware, surf their pron, post some pron, torrent some warez to trade at school tomorrow, and generally talk shit on myspace and leave no trace on the box for Dad to find.
A simple liveCD thumbdrive made to anonymize your net cruising and bust through school firewalls without leaving evidence on the boxen would spread like wildfire. Call it "teh H4rDC0r3!", and make it look like some pimped and stoned out XP with Office,Chrome, some games, a pron theme, easy IM, script kiddie tools, and every kid in school will want it.
A few (too many) years ago, a friend was doing quite a bit of rf design work at home, but the radio station antenna a quarter mile away was injecting a hell of a signal into his if blocks. The solution? He remodeled his work room by tearing out the old plaster walls, re-insulating, updating the wiring, and stapling aluminum screen over the studs in the walls and ceiling before installing the gypsum board back over it. He tied the screen to a ground rod in salted soil to create a Faraday cage for the entire room. He used to laugh, saying that whenever he sells the house, the new owners will wonder why their cell phones and radios won't work in that room.
If they're going to "adjust" the numbers, why did they even bother doing the research at all? Why not just come out and say,"We didn't like what the numbers said, so we threw them away and we're making a WAG with some bullshit we're pulling out of our ass." I understand that they're a research (read "marketing") company, and so are constitutionally incapable of telling the plain truth because they could burst into flames, but it would be a new experience. And fun to watch!
I believe the later Transputers had matrix switches to connect the individual boards to, so that the topology could be changed dynamically. Much like using a self-adaptive CPU made from fpga's. Some steps in problems need different topologies, like grid, pipeline, or hypercube.
There's another reason. Please wait while I put on my conspiracy freak hat (looks like tin-foil). The Bin Laden family have a looong-time business/social relationship with the Bush family, going back a while (Grandad Bush did oil deals with Grandpa Bin Laden). The Bin Laden name wasn't spoken after 9/11 until Secret Service verified that every Bin Laden was in the air out of the country, and safe from vigilantes. Hell, just Google the whole friggin story.
I HAVE actually worked around TV/cable/media companies, and the territory rights and agreements are a working fact in those industries. There, I broke your f*cking argument. Insulting my intelligence doesn't invalidate my statements.
You sound like a young man, not quite cynical enough to be middle-aged like me... It's understandable that you think it's bullshit because it's not logical. It's not logical. It's Monopolistic Business as usual, compounded with a shit load of legal and back office agreements as to territories and policies, and hourly slaves following the rules to hang on to a shitty job.
I have the deepest sympathy for you, darkpixel2k, your bright outlook on life is probably the last vestige of childhood left to you, and we're taking it away.
So, the process of evolution kicks in now, right? Change and adapt and overcome your opposition, or die. I always thought the patent and copyright system was to give the small players a temporary haven against the big fish in the business pond, not be a completely dysfunctional business model concocted by fucking sleazy bastards. I'm totally disgusted by the "IP" laws I'm seeing. It's the Thought Police of Orwell's 1984.
The previous incident may not align with your experience because, *tada* people are different. How office managers decide to handle the same situation depends on their philosophies, training, wither they got laid last night, have a headache, etc...
I'm glad you could reach a workable solution (let's hear it for nice old ladies!), but it sounds like Comcast still sucks balls.
So, something like a stego plugin for Blender or Photoshop? Leaves the picture or vid okay, (or even a little grainy for the file size), but look at it through the "spying eyes filter" and you can access/add/delete the data in it. After all, just about everyone has Photoshop,.NetPaint, Gimp, or Blender... How about a plugin for OpenOffice?
So the patent troll could put a halt to OpenOffice being sold, but what about the free download version? There's no money being made there, is there? It's just straight cost for the servers and bandwidth, right? Are they going to threaten to take the profits from that?!?
Very true. I got (involuntarily) moved to the sticks, but it turned out alright. My kids actually have better schooling, my autistic son has better services, I've a large family support structure here (generations in fact). And I don't have the god-damned helicopters chasing felons through my trailer park anymore. Here we just shoot them ourselves.
Amerika will never be run by the middle class, because there aren't enough left to put together a decent bowling league, let alone have a voice in government. You're either rich, or struggling to stay alive. The "poverty line" is rising quickly due to accelerated inflation, so what was "comfortable" before is struggling to pay the mortgage now. And the separation between rich and poor is growing rapidly, also. I'm half-tempted to say I'm Canadian and apply for EU jobs, but family makes that impossible.
Kind of like how Thomas J. Watson, chairman of IBM, stated âoeI think there is a world market for maybe five computers.â I think we all recognize that AT THE TIME, he could have been right, because people thought computers could only be used in certain ways. When people started innovating, and using more data manipulation, they found more uses for them and needed more computers. The same will happen with IT.
So Windows and Macs will run all the Win32 and Mac programs like Office and Photoshop and also run the same web apps that Chrome will run. That means Google Chrome won't have a Killer App, except for the UI, security and cost?
Sounds like a pretty killer set of features to me... I've already helped several people convert to linux, each wanting JUST ONE of those features. Now Google Chrome is giving all 3? SHWING!
I was born a poor, geeky child... really. My Momma told us,"When there's a difference in size, equalize." She didn't care what we did to them as long as her little boys came home alive. That shit hole town in Texas definitely taught me to be a cut-throat, mean-ass, sonofabitch in a fight.

Did you at least egg their cars?
Or cowbell.

Sounds as valid as some other business plans I've seen.

Unless they used a process like Randall Hyde teaches, High Level Assembler (HLA). Art of Assembly Language Home Page

Yes, I've spent my entire life filling it with knowledge!

And hundreds, if not thousands, of violent crime offenders go without jail time every week. I love a fucksioning legal system.
Here's the oblig. ftfy (fixed that for you).
So, possible a monkey bite? I heard that hurts like a bitch...
