i work for bank of america's online banking division. and we are all too familiar with the "false postive" of the IE7 Phishing site notification.
usually caused by somebody not noticing that they actually are on the correct site, and just say "hmm, must be a phishing" site. or worse yet.. "this isnt a phishing site, so i'll click it so it doesnt ask me again." needless to say, its a nightmare, espically for somebody who could potentially lose busisness to this issue.
there must be a check & balance sort of situation available for this.
"....we never had any security problems with telephones!..."
well, except for the color "boxes" and other things like that. dont forget, security through OBSCURITY came from to begin with, explicitly through the telco system. thus how the same concept evolved through computers. ..i guess its time you take a refresher course on the ideology of security, and maybe attend a few 2600 meetings!

more along the lines of,...at least now, we know they're out there,.. and they're easier to find,.. and target. opening all of those closet doors all day in a home-by-home
closet-by-closet basis,..is tirinig. ask our brethren in iraq!;-)
i dont do windows either, but i maintain a few boxes for some older family members. and MSIE isnt a requirement for windows update any longer. ms finally got tired of hearing all the complaints over the phone as to why they couldnt update their box with a few million people having firefox as their "default browser". so it works now. but yeah.. kernel-level integration of anything but the kernel and device drivers,..is a big mistake no matter who you are, a one man fly by night F/OSS camp, or the big ole satanic redmond crew. its not intelligent. to say the least. so..its a step.
you wouldnt happen to have any instructions on how to go about, removing explorer, msie, etc. straight from the windows kernel, would you? because, it is totally integrated into windows. if you remove ie, you remove explorer, and your windows os, is totally useless. thats half of the problem there....the only way to go about what you're saying you did with your superhuman geekboy strength and "l33tn3ss" is by using a shell replacement, which most people cannot tolerate, or even use functionally. props to you, for trying to be cool though! i'd do my research next time.
yeah, sure a 2mhz FSB may "give asus the edge"..but in all reality it should be a common pratice by more hardware vendors. anybody thats ever bought a cpu knows, generally they're "underclocked" by 1% or so. this 2mhz speed increas, just makes the playing feild even, and usually makes the cpu run at its rated advertised speed. no more no less.
i agree,..but to think, apple seems to have some marvelous foresight in thinking that Intel chips will be X times more efficent in their useage of power, raw processing speed, and (of course) marketability.
"To the average user, the notion of non-admin is abstract and obscure," said Michael Howard, a senior security program manager in Microsoft Corp.'s security business and technology unit. "Most users just don't know they can set up least-privilege accounts in Windows today, and that's just a sad reality."
ok, is it just me or do you need Admin to do every damn little thing on the windows platform?
to install MSN Messenger, you need to be Admin
- how much more stupid can it get? atleast in any *nix os, you have a revloutionary 'new' concept (see: sarchasm) called userspace.
so why doesn't MicroSoft know about the appeal of a userspace where it doesn't take admin to do EVERYTHING?
he said easy-to-use. in general MPLAYER's transcode is a pain in the arse (at best) to get used to from say, a GUI point-n-click windows-like dvd ripper.
well, truth be told, encryption technologies come and go. some have been compromised, some havent.. it isn't a matter of IF it'll be compromised, but WHEN...pretty iffy for a fail-safe situation to me.
however, i believe this is geared toward the more, fail-proof industrial spy type stuff, which happens a lot more than most would think it does. (atleast more than what is reported)
and as for that, its very appropiate. -just my 2cents, --KingPunk
you DO realize that VOLVO is manufactured by Ford Moto Co. Correct? Don't get us laughing here.. please. *gasp*
... surfs up. that's the other.
well, they did say that Vista is supposed to be to XP, as what Win 95a was to Windows 3.11 (for Workstations)
those who do not learn from the past, are surely bound to repeat it.
ironically, three generations later?

whats the chance that not only could they hide in pci cards, but other devices?
and on top of that, what about the cross-platform aspect.
a *nix/win32/win64 rootkit using virtualization.

you mean in a way like apple did, with the whole OSX on the "x86" arch? ;-)
