  1. Re:maybe i'm gittin' old... on Senator Clinton Slams GTA · · Score: 0

Games don't "plant" much of anything. If a person has ever wondered what it would be like to, for example, carjack people and run from the police, they might find the game appealing. On the other hand, if they find that kind of idea disgusting, they'll throw down the controller and never play it again. What a concept!

  6. Security through obscurity? on Ask Microsoft's Martin Taylor About Linux vs. Windows · · Score: 2, Interesting

People often hear from Microsoft that Linux only seems more secure because it is less widely used than Windows. Why, then, are Linux web servers hacked less than Windows servers, despite the fact that they outnumber Windows servers?

  7. Re:Wouldn't it be better? on Microsoft to Buy Anti-Virus Software Firm · · Score: 1

If Microsoft really does go forward with charging people for antivirus, I hold out no hope for them _ever_ coming out with a more secure version of Windows. They would really just be shooting themselves in the foot. It's just sickening to think about. If they do this I can guarantee you I will never buy from them again.

If there is ever some kind of gene therapy to greatly extend the human lifespan, there will have to be a genetic birth control that drastically limits birth rate in affected individuals. It's not foolproof, but with legal enforcement, we could make it work...

Maybe not, but someone will check. And if they find something that shouldn't be there, word will get around quickly. Even if nobody actually looks at the code, the programmer can count on it happening. Open source keeps people honest that way.

I played the hell out of System Shock 1 and 2, and loved them both. The monster respawning did WONDERS for the atmosphere. Even when backtracking through finished areas the games were really tense. And don't even get me started on the groves. If they choose to do this, sweet. If not, then maybe someone will have the balls to make a DOOM 3 mod. It seems like the perfect engine for it. =)
