Are they over-reacting. It depends on whether you think a name can make of break a product. The developers have money invested in the Nintendo platform, if it flops they will stand to lose out, possible even lose their jobs. So they are interested in making the thing a success.

Now whether or not the name Nintendo picked is good or bad for business, is hard to judge at this time. The press they have gotten has been considerable, but is it good or not, another hard thing to tell.

The answer is that pricing sends a signal.

This is a strong argument, and no doubt has a lot of backing. But you don't see this everywhere. When I go to tescos, I see dvds selling from £2 to £20. I really believe that cinemas would benefit from selling cheaper tickets when the movie is on its way out.

You could argue a case that they do not legally have to help provide interoperability (but even this is wrong, since they are a convicted monopoly), but the fact that they don't makes some people, especially governments worried. They get concerned when they rely on one company, and only one company for important matters such as recording information. If Microsoft makes it hard for anyone else to retrieve this information, and they do, then lots of people rely on Microsoft.

Why are the aliens using hours and minutes, in their doomsdays signal?
If these creatures can field a spaceship a fourth the size of the moon, why do they bother engaging in aerial dogfights with the U.S. Air Force?
And why don't they blow up everything at once?

To be fair, the film screws up so badly in all areas, it would be weird if they got the computer stuff right.

How did Jeff Goldblum's character figure out the alien signal?
How did they know how to fly the alien ship?
All of the characters in this film are stereotypical.
The President of the United States of America flies a fighter plane against alien ships.
The town drunk is a hero for no reason.
