    Really? I rather think that hardcore /. nerds would not give a shit about a games machine, and are just hanging around here waiting for the next linux kernel update, or AMD's update to the k8.

    If someone comes from NEC and places a large order, and pays, what are you going to do? Ring up the national NEC number, and query it? Look for their picture on the website?

    Why would you even question it, unless they came of rather dodgey.

    The reasons you mentioned are why it doesn't happen that often (probably).

    The advantages are now need for marketing, a well built up brand, and not having to provide warranties or support.

    Let me ask you a question.

    Is it a good idea to open the phone networks, so that any company can sell you a home/mobile line. (PS, this results in cheaper phone calls)

    It is a good idea to open up gas and electricity suppliers?

    Are these good ideas? Maybe not for the busines who has the monopoly, but for the consumers of said products.

    The point is that these point made in the findings of fact are illegal in the EU just as they are illegal in the US. Because they were declared illegal in the US, the EU does not have to go through a lengthy court case of the exact same kind as happened in the US. The EU is respecting the 'findings of fact' from the case.

    On another note, I tried so hard to avoid seeing this film, I new it would be absolute crap, but eventually events conspired against me. On a bus to Melbourne, I could try to fall asleep.

    It's precisely because we're Americans and have a long history of independence, not just in creating our nation, but in thought as well
     
    I don't argue with your beliefs, but this is not restricted to Americans. Australians, Canadians and especially the English also feel very strongly about individual freedoms. The UK government has proposed a number of national id cards, each being shot down. (This happened in Australia, they must have gotten one through) I am not sure what this says about the difference in cultures between English speaking and the rest of Europe.

    Yeah I agree. You just need to do a few simple things to ensure that you have the same experience as we have.

    1) Don't install any programs.
    2) Don't connect it to the internet.

    See, it is not that hard.

    Seriously though, I have had to reinstall before. Maybe it is because I am always trying new software, and leaving on ones that I don't need. And I now sometimes that the uninstall isn't complete. After a while I end up with heaps of stuff loading on startup that I can't seem to get rid off, even with startup managers. And loads of dlls taking up space. Haven't had a problem with the registry with 2000 or xp.

    I can only imagine that these people who experience CTS are overweight and never exercise. I have never had a problem either. Or, of course, we could be lucky and it could be something genetic.

    I will stick with the older VHS, until they are completely gone. I can get them around here for 60p each - not new mind you, but still some good movies.

    As to your funny story, it reminded of trying to go to sleep the other night. My girlfriend kept hearing this strange noise, which she decided to point out to me. I was perfectly happy before, but then I started to notice this noise as well, so couldn't get to sleep either.

    I think that once you start watching a movie, as long as you enjoy the movie, you tend to notice little distractions a lot less.

    What do you mean? Don't you try to type with your mouse, and move your keyboard around every 30 minutes or so?

    Maybe they mean getting a different keyboard, but unless it is quite difference, I don't see what difference it would make.

    Maybe at google they have a range of keyboards that you can swap over every few days, but not here.

    This what I love. For every story about the latest phone, you will get someone who posts "why can't I just get a phone that makes calls", despite the fact that there are a myriad of choices for such a person. And every story about DVD/HDVD/Bluray/DVD Jon someone comes up with this old line.

    I am pretty sure it is a different person each time, so I wan't to know where did you get this little tid-bit of information?? At least you aren't getting modded to 5, as has happened in the past.

    Perhaps the post comment script could be updated, to look for VHS/Beta and porn, and issue a warning to get your facts straight. (the reasons you are wrong have been answered above)

    Exaclty. What gap is he talking about? They both play movies. Sure I can skip around easier, but how often do you want to do that. I don't know about this guy, but when I sit down to watch a movie, I let it run. Then I wont watch it again for about 6 months if it was really good.

    I think there is a small minority of DVD aficionados who really see a difference, but most people don't.

    No, it is all based in the name. Blu-ray has a much chance as winning the format wars, as say someone called Cliff has a change of getting a girlfriend (or posting an interesting story for us to read).
