  1. Re:The other view on What Would It Look Like To Fall Into a Black Hole? · · Score: 1

Can you explain that a bit better? I thought time dilation would shorten the "apparent" time for the person accelerating into the black hole. This site (http://jilawww.colorado.edu/~ajsh/insidebh/schw.html) has an apparent time of 16 seconds which is not exactly the life of the universe.

I remember those two fondly from my pre-teen (and in fact pre-pre-teen) days. I also read E E "Doc" Smith's Family d'Alembert series (D'oh - just read on Wikipedia that Stephen Goldin wrote most of them - childhood shattered!) but they were probably a bit trashy.

What dissipation of mass? Unless the death star is pouring teratonnes of antimatter into the planet, the mass will be exactly the same... just scattered a bit.

No, I think it was just that your post was pretty offensive. The little "outburst" looked like an appropriate response to me. (And no, I'm not Canadian either...)

  6. How about heart surgery? on High School Dropout, Self-Taught Chip Designer · · Score: 1

My father always said anyone could do heart surgery. He's dead now. I was recently prosecuted for taking my children to the vet instead of a real doctor. Actually he wasn't a real vet either, he was a self taught taxidermist. For some reason all our pets have died young, but we have a lot of stuffed animals to play with. Luckily for me, the judge was a self taught carpark attendant, and I got off.

I think the original post might have meant that they filled the threads with pro-capitalist comments, rather than criticizing that type of comment. At least that's the way I read it.

Or is it what happens when capitalism gets a chance to work? Linux will be successful because the product is better, the price is better, and the service is better. Microsoft's profitability is dependent on it being an 800 pound gorilla which can basically set the prices for its products.

I've experienced motion sickness (car & boat) and the sensation you get from the FPS games is quite similar. I also don't like heights, and that feels quite different. The simulated heights in games have never been a problem, more the Blair Witch-style movement. And different games have affected me to different degrees.
