Since Apple is notorious for forcing old hardware into obsolescence
Are you serious? I just retired my G4 luxo lamp iMac a couple of months ago, which was released in '96. It was fully supported, and useful, until 10.6 when they finally dropped the Power PC architecture.
The story is about the payout rate of Apples ad platform for their mobile platforms. I dot see anyone "twisting" it to seem like a good thing.
And it's not like the EVO and Droid X are any cheaper price wise than an iPhone, and yet there are plenty of apps in the Android Marketplace that are add supported.
A farm produces a new crop with each harvest. And when you die it can countinue to produce a new crop with the following harvests that your children reap. If you and your children continue to sell the same sheaf of wheat over, and over you'll all go to jail for fraud.
As a composer the only way to do something similar would be teach you offspring how to write music and lyrics. Enabling them to earn a living from the fruits of their own labor. The same as the farmers children would have to do.
Saturday night I paid a $3.50 service fee to buy a ticket at the box office of the venue on the day of the show.
I'm still not sure how that makes any sense.
I'd argue that technology hasn't made the public any dumber, it has only made it's ignorance more apparent. Partial jest there.
In reality though. In "developed" countries the population is most likely smarter than in the past. And when you say that the public has become dumber what you're really talking about is that the tech has been dumbed down to make it accessible to more people. The amount and type of technology that the average person comes into contact with on a daily basis has changed dramatically over the years and will continue to do so. Therefore these machines and devices need to designed in ways that makes them easier to use to get things done.
If they're the type of person who believes a job is beneath them I don't want them on my team. Especially if they are fresh out of school.
If you're fresh out of school and are offered a job in your field that is entry level, it is not beneath you. For the most part entry level people get entry level jobs. Then if you have any chops you can move up more quickly than others who are less qualified.
I don't see this a solving as "real problem" either. But you lost me on that "dumbing down the public" bit.
I mean really. If you want to go there I'm sure that there are plenty of people competently doing tasks using modern computers that they wouldn't be able to do if all they had was an abacus. So is that dumbing down the public as well?
Didn't say it was a burden. Just that it is easier in iBooks.
Since you can't directly download the file to an iPad from Gutenberg's website. You first have to download to your computer and then email it to yourself, or use the iTunes sync to move the file over. Then locate the file with the reader app.
So although not burdensome. It is more difficult than getting it from the iBook store, then going to your "library" and start reading.
I have a 16Gb iPad 3G and I must say that their survey matches my experience.
I don't care about a camera on it. Front or back. And find the only things I wish it had were native print function, and built in SD card reader. The 3G service is OK except at work where my building seems to be some sort of Faraday cage for anything radio related.
I was kind of surprised that iBooks wasn't showing as highly rated as I thought. For me that is the killer app. It makes access to the Project Gutenberg material flat out painless. I know that there are other ways I could get those titles on there and read them if it wasn't built into the app, but this makes it easy.
This is exactly the problem. If you're an ASCAP member, but aren't getting air time on the radio you'll see little to nothing from them. ASCAP shakes down every establishment that has live music for a license fee to make sure that their members get paid for "your use of their material to enhance your business."
But if you're a member with a local following, playing your own stuff in a venue that has paid up. You won't see any money from them because your not being broadcast, or selling a significant number of CD's or downloads from the legal channels. As that is how they determine the distribution of the money from these fees.
Exactly. There was some tool in the comments section of the Wired story on this whose take was essentially.
If you write something and release it under a Creative Commons license. An ad agency could use it for free. Which means they won't pay me what I want to be paid for what I write for something similar. Therefore you're taking my lunch money. How am I supposed to make a living living?
Of course he is completely unaware of the fact that a CC license doesn't mean that you're giving it away for free. And that if you have a non-commercial CC license the ad agency can't use it for free.
He doesn't say it's a better product overall. Just that it's a better products for him.
Try reading at least the part of the post you quote.
Actually the "Droid line" is from Motorola.
The "Android OS" is on a number of phones from different manufacturers.
And a double whoosh for you for not realizing the play on the topic.
It wasn't just some random announcement. It was the keynote at their Worldwide Partners Conference.

I actually saw it as "Hateful" at first.
People who get off their ass and go outside are healthier than those who don't.

Except there are some states that have open primaries. Where you can vote in an other party's primary instead of your registered party's.

Time to get out there and DIY. This Slashdot after all. If you've got an itch scratch it.

They say no. Because hetero couples can get married to avoid the tax that this is meant to compensatecfor,
My question though is why is there this extra tax on supplying health insurance for domestic partners?
Already has. The head of devices and entertainment division is leaving the company after 20+ years. Balmer is taking the group over.
I like that idea. A small feature phone for day to day use, and a smart phone when on the road.
It's like driving down the road and realizing that the accelerator on your Prius is stuck so you jump out the door.

So was Metallica until they made it big.

Verizon is launching LTE in January.
