I have had a somewhat different experience upgrading RedHat software. I've currently got a RHEL Enteriprise Server machine that was version 3. Version 4 came out, I tried the upgrade and while it APPEARED to go well, I found out (by looking through the logs) that it had changed IMAP servers and was now using cyrus-imapd rather than the regular IMAPD. That would have been fine, except for the fact that their is no easy, standard, supported way to migrate mailboxes from the mailfile to the maildir formats!
I've queried RedHat about this and have yet to hear back. For the meantime I've used my RedHat channel entitlement to go download an old version of the IMAPD and the corresponding libraries. I've also had to force an RPM install, which sets my sysadmin sense tingeling, to overwrite some of the native kerberos libraries. So far nothing bad has happened, but I'm not going to be a happy camper if it does.
Try not paying your taxes for a couple years and you'll see exactly how "responsible for inaction" you can be.
The government can and does, unjustly, prosecute people for much less than this every day.
This may be a troll, but I'll bite.
Just because something is in writing, doesn't mean it's legit or legal!
I could put a clause in my EULA saying "If you read this, I can take all your money and all your children's money", but that doesn't make it legal or enforceable.
You do, in fact, have to have ID in order to travel by motorcycle, car, or boat because you have to have a license on you in order to legally do so (which is a form of ID... usually photo ID).
Nope. You have to have an ID (driver's license) in order to DRIVE / OPERATE the vehicle. You don't need a passenger's license.
Locking your doors when you leave is always a good one. I spent five years living in a campus setting and I don't remember ever hearing of someone who got their door busted in to have stuff stolen, but I have heard plenty of stories about people walking into unlocked rooms.
Treat your dorm room like a server room, always lock it up.
Double check and make sure you have a legit serial number. Word on the street is that you can't install it if you have certain installation IDs, which are a result of heavily pirated registration information.
I completely agree with you on the "confusing aspect" you mentioned. Also, for me the movie didn't seem to actually have an ending, it just... stopped. Am I missing something?
Please see this movie for an approximation of what will happen if you use your cell phones during a flight.
Look about 80 percent into the trailer. Beware, QuickTime required.

I have personal experience with this.
What you do is you try to go into the building to get your things. When they refuse to let you in, you tell them that you're going to the police station and will bring an armed escort with you. If they still don't let you in, go to the nearest police station and tell them that your previous employer has been given multiple attempts to return property of yours and that you want an escort into the buidling to recover your property. Contrary to your belief they will probably help you.
Even more distressing, when I read through all of Adobe's licensing drivel is the part about where the activation is stored. It seems much like TurboTax's activation scheme, from the initial details.
From Adobe:
"Q: Do I have to reactivate if I reformat my hard drive?
A: As long as you don't "low-level" reformat your hard drive, you will not be required to reactivate Photoshop CS software. Please note that normal utilities (provided by the operating system vendor) for reformatting the hard drive do not perform a "low-level" reformat."
I find it interesting that the Slashdot community is upset about this 'protection from counterfeiting', but isn't up in arms about the required product activation. With more than half of SlashDot using the Windows platform, you'd think there would be more concern about this.
I did some research and found out that you're right! That's a very interesting thing. One would wonder why they wouldn't save on bandwidth some (it doesn't cost them anything to transfer on their own network) and keep it on their network.
Hopefully my local RoadRunner's NOC can handle this. I know they just laid a new buttload of fiber, we'll see if we can get them to light it up. *crosses fingers*
For one breif, breif second, I read the title as "George Lucas Struggles to Releave Himself".
My impetus to read the article decreased after I realized my error.
even if the sex is good The what?
Which is precisely why they're rumored to be buying Tivo, right?

Just wanted to get my story out there.
Perhaps it's telling you something?

We call that "activation energy". *rimshot* I'll be here all week!
Since when has being completely uninformed stopped any Slashdot readers from making informed opinions and spreading them around?
You must be new here.

You know, there really out to be a "-1;God, I hate you." option for moderation. ;)

5 dollars / month is the same thing as 60 dollars per year.
5*12=60

Here I thought /. was the source for fair and balanced coverage.

No, that's Fox News.
