Are you implying that Bill Gates who keeps for himself every bit of "intelectual property" that he has created or has had others create on his behalf is a better man than a guy who has shared his work with all of humanity?
Everybody has different motives in life. If everybody gave away everything for free or without profit, most people wouldn't have jobs.
good samaritan who made a difference n. Rich bastard in need of a tax break.
Standard Slashdot comment every time this topic comes up. Hopefully, at sometime time, the morons will realize that making charitable donations doesn't increase your money.
1) You have 100$. No charitable donations. You pay say 30% tax on it - i.e. 30$. You have 70$ left with you.
2) You have 100$. You give 20$ to charity. Now you pay tax only on the remaining 80% i.e. 24$. The money you have left = 100 -24 - 20 = 56$.
i.e You would have been left with more money if you hadn't given charity & got the tax breaks.
The only diff to this scenario is when giving the donation puts you in a lower tax bracket. However I doubt it that's the case with Bill Gates - he should far far above the highest tax bracket.
Given your knowledge of C++ books, do you have any recommendations?
Stroustrup's 3rd Edition C++ PL is the best if you have already know some C++. It's the absolute bible, like K & R's book for "C". However, if you are a beginner at C++, then the book by Accelerated C++ by Andrew Koenig & Barbara Moo is very good.
For just STL, Nicolai Josuttis's book is highly recommended.
For the latest C++ template tricks (the kind used in boost), Andrei Alexandrescu's Modern C++ design is very good & detailed.
Haven't read Schildt's C++ book but his C Book used to be notorious. Check Seeb's review Most of these errors must have been corrected by now, however.

Yes. The reason I can say this, is that I work for a corporation as a developer where part of what we do is selling ads. Not only do they work, they are highly lucrative.
Yes, they do make money for the seller of the ads like Google. But I think the OP was asking more about whether they work for the buyer.
he Apple market share is small, so there is less incentive for competitors to develop alternative products to Apple's own OS, media player, etc. Unlike Microsoft, Apple does not need to do anything to stymie or eliminate competition.
Bonhomie Snoutintroff is a plain-spoken strong leader in cyberspace. He did poorly in school but his family is rich and well connected, so he's served as CEO of numerous, well-known Internet ventures that for various reasons unrelated to his forward-looking guidance no longer exist. He developed a cocaine and alcohol problem, although he refuses to dwell on the past: his mission is to bring honor and dignity to the IT profession. His keen insight as a global techno-visionary is matched only by his Christian humility.
Is Bonhomie Snoutintroff the pen name for George Dublya Bush?
For anyone who doesn't know, you become a Microsoft MPV largely by being an unemployed loser - the more time you can waste away providing pro-Microsoft answers on Microsoft's message boards, providing them with a lot of free labour.
What about all those people providing support on Linux/MySQL/Apache mailing lists/forums etc - what are they? Unemployed losers or OSS champions?
If they pull this one, they'll leave the competition in the dust.
I don't see what's big technical challenge here? Will it take more than one day of coding to code a "Click to Call" thingy?
I vaguely remember somebody doing this during the whole dot com days - One of the car insurance ads had a "Click To Call", I think it was Geico but I am not sure.
I think you have posted in the wrong thread. You probably wanted this thread.
No he is not a millionare.
I thought he was one.
And yes you are trolling.
That's your opinion & you are welcome to it.

Not trolling, but asking out of genuine curiousity.
Isn't Linus Torvalds also a millionaire? Does anyone have any figures
about his charitable donations?

Always a good idea to check the book review at ACCU before you buy any book. The reviewers here are mostly experts in the subject matter.

How did real networks get so high. I never have visited their website.
That's why they are at #9. Once you start visiting they'll probably hit Top 5.

Breaking News:
Google said they would fix this problem in Safari & Opera, just like they fixed the IE problem last week.

I think BillG is running MSN off his cable modem connection & it's
sure to get slashdotted.
But nobody throws chairs at Google, unlike management practices used at some other well-known technology companies.

I've already put 6500 petroleum free miles on my VW TDI.
Just because no one the submitter knows uses biodiesel doesn't make biodiesel an "experimental" fuel.
What biofuel do you use? That link says nothing about that. VW TDI is built to run on diesel.
Were any modifications neccessary to run on biodiesel.
Won't he get a tax break therefore saving money in the long run?
Why don't you donate all your money to charity & save money using this
ruse?
Fremont is a district of Seattle here.
This is probably a code name which will change before release.
Other such code names are Whidbey for Visual Studio 8.0
Everett for Visual Studio 7.1
Orcas - next release of Visual Studio.
All of these are places in Washington state.
If they pull this one, they'll leave the competition in the dust.

To be honest, I found it more of a shock that Lynx has a security flaw.
Why? I haven't looked at Lynx recently, but Lynx used to be a very insecure
browser - Lynx code had lots & lots of Buffer Overflows.
It's not the GHZ speed
You are right, it's actually GHz.
