So when I request my "free" report. The paper it is written on magically appears as does the printer and ink. Once the magic ink is printed on the magic paper, it's put in a magic envelope and magically transported to me.
Sorry I'm just a little skeptical when I see the word "free" used in such contexts.
Has anyone seen who is actually paying for this? Is it the credit agencies or the tax payers?

That's Google's next product. Loose your remote, just ask Google, and it will display the location along with context ads. For instance, if it's in the bathroom ads for Charmin and Tidy Bowl might popup. If located between the couch cushions, it might display ads for Sofa Express or an upholstry cleaning company.
Personally I never cared for the phone. I started wondering why I jumped everytime the thing rang. When e-mail became common place, I loved it. Now people could communicate with me without interrupting me. And I could shoot questions out without feeling like I was bugging them.
Then IM came along. While I find it has some benefits, it seems to bring back the interruption aspect of phones.
I'm not sure I agree with your point about.Net, however, as.Net isn't a browser-level technology like Jave applets or ActiveX (and, as far as I know, this problem only affects Java applets).
It's not yet, but I expect Microsoft to allow ASP.Net to capitalize on its existance on the client, if they haven't already. Allowing people to do some interesting things if.Net resides on the client.
One of the interesting things they could do is to use.Net's language agnostic attribute to provide the browser with more varied scripting language support. More than their current stable of VBScript, JScript, etc. Imagine using Python to script web pages. But I'm going off on a tangent now.
That could be like comparing two prisons. In prison A, there have been no escapes, while in prison B there have been several.
The other variable, prison A is housing no prisoners, while prison B holds 200 prisoners.
Which is a better prison? It's really impossible to tell from the number of escapes.
Java definitely has some inheritant benefits. Is it better than ActiveX, most likely, but we need to make sure we don't rely on simple imperical measurements that may not present an accurate picture.
At this point in time it would probably be more beneficial to compare Java and.Net since Microsoft has pretty much depreciated the ActiveX technology anyway.
Before the TI-58 we had to turn the calculator upside down. It was a little limitted, though. You could only store two eight character words and only us a small subset of the alphabet.
So is this what his suit was made out of? I bet this "breakthrough" was created by stealing the technology from the very same aliens that gave the suit to school teacher turned super hero.
Yes, saddly, [s]he must actually believes that you believe all Indians are like that and/or everyone reading your post would believe that as well. I think most people are intelligent and versed enough to recognize your post as hyperbole. Isn't there some saying about "protesting too much"?
Although I'm reasonably sure in practice this is all done in good faith, this seems like an easy way to corrupt the system
Forget people threatening the handicap, what about the aliens and their mind control devices? How many votes went for Bush due to alien influence? Now there's the real story.
Yeah, right. It's unfortunate that their vision is only as far as the next quarterly report and their stock price.
If they can get beyond the gimmicks devised to boost their stock price they might actually create some value.
Browsers are yesterdays technology anyway. Who's creating the next great advance in technology? Certainly not the AOL's of the world running scared from their stock price.
to just fly over and drop in a remote weather monitoring package?
The article states the primary objective is weather monitoring. I'd think think there would be easier methods of obtaining that data. That's not to say it isn't worth it. I would think the bigger benefit is the technology to get humans there.
So, whatever happened to Ultima TV? Microsoft didn't fair too well in that battle. Maybe with help Microsoft can enter the market. Honestly if they can up with something that performs better, I'd like to see TiVo get some competition because I'm not real happy with the overall performance of their existing systems
There's apparently something strange in Lake Erie's water and caused a lot of Kerry votes. I wonder if Osama dumped something in the lake?

overwrite it with all zeros to hide the shreading, then remove the file
Wouldn't it be better to replace it with the original bits. That would remove all traces of shredding.
Something pithy goes here
What I'm still waiting for is to see what's next. I'm surprised someone hasn't come out with something superior to a browser.
Most of what people want to do with the a browser just doesn't work that well. For whoever solves that, they'll be the next big thing.
I just don't see a lot of progess in information management and presentation. I guess the web has become main stream and such changes just aren't practical. Much like we're still using ancient SMTP for mail.
Mozilla has an oppurtunity. If they can make their browser easy to develop plugins and developer software for they'll have a chance at really gaining on IE. Until that becomes easier, there's still going to be a lot of resistance in IT shops where they need more than just a browser. The FireFox as a platform idea from Blake is nothing new, but the problem is that Open Source developers don't seem to have the ability to create a solution thats easy to develop for. Often it takes an age to accomplish something fairly minor
Ofcourse all that effort could bet squashed by whoever comes out with the next gotta have technology. Microsoft also has an oppurtunity to really shake things up. Unfortunately they'll probably go the proprietary route and get slammed for that.
I should put a signature here
I tried this a while back. I took my laptop into the shower with me and turned on the cold water. While it did cool off my lap as well as the laptop I quickly got the blue screen of death.
Apparently Microsoft didn't test their OS very well and it apparently crashes in close proximity to water. I've reported this problem, hopefully we'll see a water proof service pack soon, maybe SP3.

All of this in exchange for being deployed in areas where you are surrounded by people that want you dead.
Isn't that the general idea? Who would an army fight if it was deployed where everyone loved them? If you can read this, you've read too far.

Challenging yes, but breaking their stranglehold? I think the fox has a bit further to run before that happens. I look forward to the day, though.

but what I've seen of today's Grid software is fragile, overcoupled, underdocumented, and doesn't yet deliver on all the promises.
Doesn't sound all that different than a lot of software I know.

Didn't Netscape try this tactic. Maybe my memory is fuzzy, but I thought they tried to position the Netscape browser as a platform.
Maybe it will be better the second time around. Or are we just watching reruns?
I guess I should put a sig here
