So now they are stuck. They are still *trying* to kill Java, but in the end they are realizing that they have built their own worst enemy.
Heh. This is just like IE and Firefox.
By using the monopolic practice of embedding Internet Explorer in Windows, Microsoft opened to the gates (no pun intended) to the information superhighway, without realizing that this would allow people to get organized and fight against their own monopoly - not only with Firefox, but also with other competing projects like OpenOffice.org, and now, Mono.
This is so.... ironic. And funny. Reminds me of the typical story about a wizard who summons a monster to rule the world, and then the monster kills him.
Oh please, not again. "Firefox has more security bugs! firefox is teh evil! omgomgomg" I'd expect this kind of comments from a/. comment, but from a STORY SUBMISSION? In any case I already know the answer: "more bugs, but some less critical, and all patched in less time".
the RIAA's product's low quality and overinflated prices also encourage illegal downloads.
Actually, P2P doesn't really *encourage* illegal downloads. It only *facilitates* them. Which is very different. Of course, the possibility of committing an illegal act remains only a possibility, unless the motivation is strong enough to overcome the difficulties and risks. And the motivation for illegal downloads is the RIAA's fault only.
In a game like tekken or halo, for example, I'm rough on the controller, and I like to grip onto something solid. This does not provide.
As the name implies, it's a REVOLUTION. Expect variations of the controller to appear in the market later. "Nintendo heavy-duty Sword controller. Nintendo gun controller", etc.
Maybe in 10 years we'll get position sensors for your feet and arms so you can ACTUALLY simulate swordfighting. Who knows?
Just keep innovating, guys!

Search for IDE's based on the Scintilla control. It supports syntax highlighting and code folding for numerous languages (more than 70 IIRC), and is cross-platform. the wxWiki has some info on IDE's, too.
the ATF doesn't hire drunk smokers w/ unregistered firearm violations.... Demolition man (well, sorta)
Alright, that was a bit far fetched, but remember the motto: Keep your friends close, keep your enemies closer. The best way to control a hacker is to have it in a well-surveilled place, monitoring all his activities. Plus, you get him to help you do security audits, etc.
(about 30 posts later...) Oh yeah...and it helps get the first post:-)
You just reminded me how late it took Microsoft to adopt these features:-)
Can somebody enlighten me?

I've tried to download files from edonkey for several months, without success.
All i've got is "Queue #4339 of 4339" (in the worst case) and average of 140 people before me in my around 20 sources. And I mean anime fansubs, not pron (but it could apply).
Considering that each file takes around 5 hours to transfer, my ETA would be equal to 29 days before my download actually starts.
This makes me wonder if all the traffic in edonkey belongs to the 1/140 = 0.71% lucky guys who got to be the first ones in the queues.
Gnutella, on the other hand, is my preferred source for downloads. I always get to download stuff.
So... my question is... has any slashdotter in here been able to ACTUALLY download ANYTHING from edonkey? How long it takes before a download actually starts? Does the p2p client change your probability of success?
Parents ought to keep a close eye on the things their kids do. PERIOD.
Fine, let's start suing the parents for being irresponsible. Whoever wants to pass such a law, raise your hands. (Cue crickets chirping in the congress)
Okay! Let's allow cigarrettes and alcohol to be sold to minors! The kids are responsible, who are we to tell them they can't buy something! It's very probable they were sent by their parents to buy them... besides, we don't want to turn the clerks are surrogate parents, do we? (/sarcasm)
Pardon me from being redundant and captain of the obvious, but the real motivation is because the game industry will lose LOTS OF MONEY with this law.
the media doesn't want it to (you wouldn't expect the **AA to help you in this, would you?). I guess, that if you REALLY want information to be free, you have to set it free using YOUR resources (i.e. MythTV).
Games more restricted than TV, TV more restricted than movies, movies more restricted than plays, plays more restricted than books...
Ironically, games are played more than TV, TV's watched more than movies, movies watched more than plays, and books.... book, what's that? Is it edible?
I remember *SEEING* them. And I never said the info I got wasn't from a friend who actually bought it. In any case, the programs i'm talking about were from 10 years ago, and in my country information laws (if any) aren't retroactive:)
Actually this is how an internet pedophile got caught. He formatted his drive. What a surprise for him when the information detectives found evidence on his HD.

I meant "outside living tissue".
Not sure if you can catch/spread the plague by eating an infected corpse. Seems unlikely this would move through the food chain.
The bad thing is, plague is bacteria. Just like cholera and anthrax. And IIRC bacteria could survive in sterile environments for a lot of time.

the SEC doesn't hire fraudsters

Too bad the Microsoft execs disagree with that.

I remember old PC games being sold (illegally) in the streets. The CD included a directory called "crack" which contained some patches.
I wonder how long before someone hacks into the OS/X code and does this...
I felt a disturbance in the info... as if billions of bits had cried in randomness, and then were suddenly erased.
