Whenever you login to the REAL bank's website, you should get a popup saying:
"Important! Remember there are scammers out there. If you get an email allegedly from us, don't login from the mail! Open a browser window on your own and login from there."
I wonder who Slashdot is going to back in this legal battle?!
So far Google's a monopoly in the search market, but Microsoft is using monopolic practices to fight against this monopoly, so it's a hard question to answer.
But I'd say that since Google's not playing dirty, I'd go with Google. Maybe monopoly, but legit. Oh yeah, almost forgot! Mod parent insightful.
If something which is very useful for the community "complicates" the law, doesn't that imply that men should become slaves of the Law that was made to serve THEM in the first place?
I had gastritis for about a year or so. I didn't know what I had, I feared it might be cancer... until I heard some doctors talk about the helycobacter pilori.
So I went to the gastroenterologist to diagnose me. He made me a biopsia and the HP results were negative. However, he found out i had a hiatal hernia. While this implies I will need surgery sometime later, I'm glad I finally found out what I have and how to treat it.
The problem is when doctors DON'T diagnose you and keep you in the dark for God knows how many years.
Anyway I'll keep you guys posted in any case of nanoelectronics advancements. My favorite story would be chips with nanotube wires (or better, transistors). Don't forget to visit physorg frequently, too!:)
The book describes magnetic core which was pretty well obsolete in 1971.
And ironically, magnetic memory comes back with nanotech. What's even more ironic, is that hard disks, which haven't changed much, WILL become obsolete in the future.
I've never understood why people are unwilling to shell out money for a good keyboard,
Because the prices are unrealistically high? Keyboards have ALWAYS been cheap. Anyway I suspect this "displayed keyboard gadget" will be available in geek sales sites, but I doubt it'll be used by the mainstream - unless it gets REALLY cheap.
Then again, home users barely know how much do their "internet enabled keyboards with cool looking hotkeys" cost.
Compare with "lightly overweight", "overweight", "obese", "exceedingly obese" and "ugly mass of fat that doesn't even fit in the bathtub". This last one would be KDE.
of a recent study that shows recycling waste is more economically viable than just dumping it- because the study takes into account the environmental effects and the economical resources used to solve long-term problems caused by just dumping garbage.

FireFoxView is an extension that lets you click on a link or page and view it in Firefox.
You might also want to try

Dvorak forgets something:
The Law was created for men; not men for the Law.

And what are the odds that the ATM machines will get the latest patches if/when they come out?
:D
None, but they'll either be dumped or upgraded. And I for one, welcome our new Diebold overlords in my local bank
Due to all the code they share because it was a joint project with Microsoft, it'll never be opened.
Teacher: OK kids, what does this lesson teach you?
Kids: "Don't make pacts with the devil".
'Nuff said.
This entire story is going to be nothing but well-deserved bashing of Slashdot editors.
Until they fix it and the karma-whoring opportunities are gone.

Either Insightful or Informative. Obviously this guy knows what he's talking about.
Which Anime Fan (that lives to the title) would choose to download crappy dubs with scenes cut? ADV has earned its reputation, after all.
Imagine a beowulf cluster of th - no, you better not.
The problem largely is that tech support people treat consumers as idiots incapabile of learning the system
Yeah I've seen quite a few of those, most of them Linux gurus that IRONICALLY! are frequent posters in Linux irc channels.

Can we get a book on how Slashdot works? because I have no fscking clue.
Sure! http://sourceforge.net/projects/slashcode/
It's not a book, but what the heck.
the "turbo" button activates the overclocking ;-)
does the fact that you can remain compatible with today's applications and data on hardware that is almost a decade old, impede PC sales?
Not if besides Win2k you also want to run Doom 3, WoW, etc.
divx iPod? I'm still waiting for Divx DVD's! :(

Awesome soviet russia joke... and UNEXPECTED! :D
:) Two thumbs up!
My kind
I'd _really_ like to see solid state drives come down in price and go up in size.
:P
I really hope you meant "storage capacity". I doubt I'd like carrying a 8 1/2 " flash drive PLUS my laptop

Unless you want to publish pr0n,viagra or trips to Cancun on slashdot "SPAM" section.
/.'ers would skip the ads and jump right to the good articles.
Which I doubt it'll work, because most
Nice try, tho.
