  1. Why should a closed-source company... on Why Is Adobe Flash On Linux Still Broken? · · Score: 1

Why should a closed source company such as Adobe promote open source software such as Linux? It goes completely against its goals.

Just look at the software that gives Adobe its huge bucket-o-cash:

Flash MX (You know, for authoring)
    Premiere
    Photoshop

Linux users (including me) completely hate that closed source model. For the Adobe execs, supporting Linux would be like allowing the enemy to enter their territory, IMHO. So they support Windows, knowing that the more time people can't install Linux, they'll still depend on a proprietary Operating System, with its proprietary applications.

In other words, they scratch Microsoft's back, and Microsoft will scratch theirs.

Otherwise, I can't find a valid reason why they wouldn't support Linux. Laziness, perhaps? When you got practically 100% (Adobe) of the 95% (Windows) of the Market, why bother with the stupid complaints of people who will never buy your products, anyway?

The command and control may reside in South Korea, being sent remote instructions by someone in Russia. Who's the perpetrator in here? The virus autor? The botnet author? 15. Official The Pirate Bay announcement for italians on The Pirate Bay Blocked In Italy · · Score: 4, Informative

    From the webpage:

    Fascist state censors Pirate Bay

We're quite used to fascist countries not allowing freedom of speech. A lot of smaller nations that have dictators decide to block our site since we can help spread information that could be harmful to the dictators.

This time it's Italy. They suffer from a really bad background as one of the IFPIs was formed in Italy during the fascist years and now they have a fascist leader in the country, Silvio Berlusconi. Berlusconi is also the most powerful person in Italian media owning a lot of companies that compete with The Pirate Bay and he would like to stay that way - so one of his lackeys, Giancarlo Mancusi, ordered a shutdown of our domain name and IP in Italy to make it hard to not support Berlusconis empire.

We have had fights previously in Italy, recently with our successful art installation where we had to storm Fortezza in order to get our art done. And as usual, we won. We will also win this time.

We have already changed IP for the website - that makes it work for half the ISPs again. And we want you all to inform your italian friends to switch their DNS to OpenDNS so they can bypass their ISPs filters. This will also let them bypass the other filters installed by the Italian government, as a bonus. And for the meanwhile - http://labaia.org/ works (La Baia means The Bay in Italian).

And please, everybody should also contact their ISP and tell them that this is not OK and that the ISPs should appeal. We don't want a censored internet! And the war starts here...

  16. In my experience on Game Developer Asks To Hear From Pirates · · Score: 1

I bought a few game DVD's back in the day where I was "good" and piracy was "evil".

The first game, Spiderman, sucked. I got ripped off, so there go my $60. I even got angrier after a few months later the same game was available for $20.

Then I bought a copy of the Robotech game, and it sucked big time. There go another $40.

Later I got Silent Hill 3, and unfortunately my DVD got scratched and could never play well after that. It kept crashing after a certain moment. I tried to fix it using DVD Skip Dr, and now the game was rendered completely unusable. There go $80.

In total, I ended up paying $140 for something that never worked at all.

I also purchased Castlevania: Lament of Innocence after I had bought a bootleg and decided I'd like to have the original. But without being able to make a backup copy, I fear my investment will go to the garbage, too.

So how do I get my money back? Well, simple. I get pirated games just to get from the videogames industry what they took away from me. And I swore I would never purchase an original game ever again.

My only exception is the Konami Castlevania games. Unfortunately I find no way to pay them without having to pay the middlemen which overinflate the prices to no avail. And I have no plans of purchasing an expensive console which will be obsolete in any minute. And due to stupid exclusivity contracts, there are no Castlevania games for the PC (even less for Linux). In order to punish the industry, I boycott them simply by playing through an emulator.

My message: I love the game, but I hate your commercial practices. Until you give me what I ask for, you won't be getting one yen from me. Sayonara.

I was a big fan of Lucasfilm's Indy games. The Last Crusade took me back to enjoying the "hidden parts that never appeared in the movie".

But the Fate of Atlantis was even better. Just take a look at some Indy 4 screenshots.

First of all, you got this archaeological dig in Iceland. Then the Azores. Then the mayan jungle of Tikal. Also, you make a stop at Monaco and have a seance with the holder of an ancient atlantean disc. AND you have to rescue him from being kidnapped by the Nazis. Later, you go to the desert and have to deal with a greedy arab merchant. Later you take a balloon to Crete and find yourself trapped in THE labyrinth. Finally you have to steal a Nazi U-boat and get to the mythical city of Atlantis. And then you have to explore a new concentric maze to find the chamber of the gods before the Nazis - not before having a secret encounter with Nur-Ab-Sal, the evil spirit posessing the body of your new girlfriend.

This game became my new Indy standard, and this is why I wanted the Indy movie so much to have it. If you watched the latest Indy movie, play the game and you'll be more than cured.

Indiana Jones and the temple of Doom: Evil cults engaged in bloodthirsty rituals. The stones of the gods. Actual jungles with vampires. Passageways filled with all kind of creepy bugs.

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade: Medieval writings of a Franciscan Friar. Biblical elements. The cup of Christ. Ancient roman catacombs hidden below a Church turned Library. A society designed to protect the secret of the grail. Henry Jone's Grail Diary. The canyon of the crescent moon. Three lethal tests to prove your faith.
