  1. ... and what's your point? Youtube is a large advertising company that sells ads to other large companies. Why wouldn't they only promote "advertiser friendly" stuff?

  2. Very poorly managed on Mayfair Games Shuts Down After 36 Years of Board Games (polygon.com) · · Score: 0

There's something very wrong if a company can't make money selling Settlers of Cataan. That alone, is a wildly popular game, retailing for $50, with about $5 worth of materials in it. I can only imagine how much they could have made off all of those other games, as well, if they were run properly.

  3. Tax changes on Tesla Burns Through $2 Billion In 2017 (theverge.com) · · Score: 5, Interesting

Everybody's taking a loss in 2017 and posting profits in 2018 to take advantage of the tax changes.

  4. 1. Google doesn't need any more of my information. They have enough.
    2. Google is notorious for suddenly dropping projects for reasons known only to them.
    3. At least in the US, we don't have great Internet connections in many, many places. Certainly not consistent enough to play bandwidth intensive games.

So instead, we have hayseeds in the middle of the country making bad decisions for the bulk of the people who live in this country. Yeah, that's much better. That makes so much more sense.

  6. Driving while looking at a GPS is clearly more dangerous than driving without looking at a screen of some kind. I prefer to take taxis because they tend to know where they're going more than the fake-taxi people (Uber, Lyft).

  7. You're just renting your iPhone on Apple is Sending Some Developers Ad Spend and Install Details For Other People's Apps (techcrunch.com) · · Score: 0

Apple owns *everything* you do on your iPhone. All of it. Is anybody still surprised by this?

  8. Keep whining. New York and California are paying the bills. Hillbilly goat-fuck states certainly aren't.

  9. Awesome! I think it's too bad that the federal government won't be doing any large scale, forward-thinking, society-improving things for the immediate future, so I'm thrilled that the Big Blue states are picking up the slack. Go, New York and California! Better late than never!

  10. Same as the US on Samsung Billionaire Gets Off Easy (gizmodo.com) · · Score: 2

Being an American, I just shrug. We have the same "justice system" here. Poor people go to jail. Rich people don't. It's not right, but it's not news, either.

That's what happens when you have a carroonish view of politics

I assume you meant cartoonish. I view of US politics is cartoonish right now, because the people at the top are cartoonish. I don't know what planet you're living on where what's happening in the US is *not* cartoonish.

  15. Re:too many vectors of communication on New Digital Technology Can, in Some Circumstances, Make Businesses Less Productive (bloomberg.com) · · Score: 1

It sounds like you work for a badly, badly managed organization. I can't imagine how you get anything done if you have to respond to so many different things.

  16. No. on Are Music CDs Dying? Best Buy Stops Selling CDs (complex.com) · · Score: 2

No, they're not "dead". I buy them regularly. I've never bought a CD at "Best Buy", so I really couldn't care less what they sell or don't sell. Best Buy is clearly a poorly run business run by people who make poor decisions.

  17. Using credit cards to avoid using credit cards on Five Major Credit Cards Are Now Blocking Cryptocurrency Purchases (cnbc.com) · · Score: 2

This whole discussion is hilarious. People are upset about not being able to use their credit cards to buy a "currency" that's designed to avoid using credit cards.

  18. We need to get our police under fucking control. They're not heroes. They're not judge, jury or executioner. They're employees of our local governments. They need to be treated as such. The particular government employees who murdered this person need to be fired and prosecuted immediately.

You're saying "fuck you" to a company that made the software that you've been happily running for almost 20 years now? That's a really strange attitude to have. I'm pretty happy that Office runs so well that you can use the same code for decades. I don't have much other software from other manufacturers that works as well and as long as some Microsoft stuff does.

  25. We're going to continue to use Windows 7 as long as we can. Luckily, licenses are super cheap and still available.
