*wakes up screaming*
I recall replying to this kind of troll and received my first down-mod, 'off-topic' if I'm correct.
Now: back to topic... What if there would be a port of OSX-server to x86? That way it would only be interesting for companies to pirate the software, which they would not likely do with mission-critical servers. Be my guest to comment on this thought, I'm not that uptodate with the hacking/cracking of OS X to x86. And why not Sun-machines?
But the registry entries are in HKLM\Software\Microsoft\CurrentVersion\Run, right? If so, you can point these entries to the appropriate shortcuts. If not then maybe you are out of luck:)
Good grief, have you got any idea what an average user is capable of? Yes, most/.-ers know what you mean, or can imagine what you mean, but most botnet-participants don't. They just don't have a frakking clue, all they need to know is how to use the applications that they enjoy or need for their work/business. Few plain users I know enjoy digging in the registry.
OS X derives from NextStep/OpenStep, and has been developed for n86 from day 1. They ported every release to PPC. Yes off course it needed aftercare, but still: first for n86, then to PPC.
AMD has been the performance/MHz performance/watt leader for more than a year, and they didn't need to make 3 Ghz chip to do that (right now I think that AMD has not even released a 3 Ghz chip, just a 2.8 one) In other words, CPus didn't need to have more than 3 Ghz to remain competitive, only the crappy presscot Intel chips, and Jobs (who has spent years telling people that MHz are not important) knows this very well. He knew that G5 didn't need to go beyond 3 ghz to perform well
Problem with IBM, as well as Motorola (or the daughtercompany that took care of the laptopchips) and AMD (and probably Sun as well) is that they could not provide Apple with enough and fast processors. I might be a little tired right now but as respectable as above mentioned businesses are, Intel is a BIG player, capable of providing Apple with everything they need at the moment, times two. I would've loved to see Apple go with Sun, go Sparc, but that would just not be wise.
And guess how many people will actually give a flying rat's ass about your damned monopoly game then.
All of them. Teachers have to be recruited from Germany en France to teach US college kids simple math, yet any moron that can hit a ball faster than average gets scholarshipped all the way through adulthood. Stop supporting a system you disapprove of. Look, remember O.J. Simpson? What you probably didn't see (but the rest of the world did, they watch CNN) was that a lot of US people actually didn't care whether he killed his wife and lover or not: he was their sports hero.
You guys are so short sighted you make the RIAA look like a bunch of visionaries.
Well, it ís like taking candy from a baby. Care to talk about ethics?
And how does a jail fix things? How is sending him to jail protecting the society?
How is it reducing our debt/budgets and taxes? It costs more to keep people in jail than
it costs to go to a hilton hotel.
You should only send insane loosers who will slit your neck and steal your car to prisons.
Just let him go, and give him 250hrs community service in IT to help churchs/small orgs and a $1000 fine.
You are SO right, because it works like a charm in the Netherlands. Rapists and pedophiles sometimes get up to 400 hrs of park-cleaning community time but boy, do they learn! Certainly not insane loosers. They will never do it again, they promise. After each conviction. (/sarcasm) This guy trespassed and did damage. Preemptive research had to be done to disclose any potential logical bomb. He did a bad thing, he knew he did it and might do it again if he could get away with it. Punishment is deserved, and a bit more than a slap on the wrist. The 3 months he's in prison will make sure society will be safe from him for 3 months, at least. The financial punishment will compensate the damages and make sure he'll work for his money for years, at least.
100 congress men steal and lie and bank roll their hidden companies and what do they get? more terms and more cash.
Those are the real crooks. Vote for better Congress men? Or: they steal and lie, that means so can we? Enron did it, Halliburton does it, Shell did it, Ahold does it, why don't we all do it? There's no law, only justice? Somehow you contradict yourself. I just haven't figured out what the original is, and the contradiction.
This is a typical windows mentality, where one expects the machine to go down at any moment.
No, common sense. Just like wearing safety belts, storing weapons in different places than the ammo, wearing helmet whilst driving a bike: I could go on if I felt it would be of any use. Owned computers for over a decade, yet never used windows.
You've got the wrong side of the sofa there, Doctor Who is traditionally watched from *behind* it.
That was "The house of wax" featuring Vincent Price, that caused my first 'scared-shitless-behind-the-couch'-moment:-) (6 yrs)
Dr. Who somewhere in my teens as early as I can remember, German telly, it was in Paradise Towers. Old World Sci-Fi, can't be beaten!
Dalek was the episode that should how good the show was going to be.
The empty child was scary ( I can say that as a 36 year old:)
They broadcasted that episode (the others as well btw) at 1900 UK time. Imagine all those brittish 8 year olds sitting on the couch watching thát... every generation has the right to get scared shitless, I guess. And the BBC didn't compromise!
By the by sometime poeple ate people for because otherwise their diet would lack proteins and other important nutrients, ancient American tribes for instance (think Aztecs, Toltecs or Maya's)
I don't break my "tools" on purpose -- I take great care with the majority of what I own.
Sir, I take back mostly of what I replied earlier, having read your reply in another fork. I might be right, but it's not justified based on what was stated in the original post. Anyhow: I stíll think the amount of damaged stuff is ridiculous. But then again, stuff lives long with me.
I am also very abusive of equipment, plus I like the latest and greatest IF it makes me more efficient.
I go through 2 laptops per year, and I generally go through about 3 PDAs. After 3-5 months of use, they're not really functional:)
You mean the memory is full? Battery is empty? Raging fits because it didn't do what you wanted it to do and ended up crashing into the wall? Needing machines to blame, perhaps?
You must be great to work with, or for. Gadgets are there to make life easier or better. If you can't handle life and all that comes along with it, then no gadget will help.
So when the opportunity arose with a new MacOS to change terms Apple did
Yes, I remember that. Power Computing (I think it was) had a last advertising series:"Licensed invoked for speeding". Rumors went they overclocked thus damaging the solid reputation *cough* of the mac. That's when Apple cunningly renamed 7.7 to 8.0, declared that a new OS meant renegotiation (resulting in buying licenses back, or simply the takeover of the clone-company). I remember special editions of OS8 for PowerComputing (mate of mine had one, pity that fool..). There were very nice clones: Daystar Genesis MP had 4 604ev's for the price of a big shiny new car. Less than half a year later the prices had halved, I can imagine some customers being a bit unhappy.
Encrypt it, and include the passphrase in the body of the message. Gmail can't touch that, cause it's a random set of characters AFA gmail is concerned.
Anyone knows what service they use to scan/detect the virusses? Norton, McAfee, Panda or homebrew?
Thing is: you NEED the U-bend (communicating vessels?) to keep the sewer-odor out of your toilet. But it also (as you mentioned correctly) thé place for clogging to happen. The lower the friction, the higher the speed with which waste can pass the U-bend. Since the waste does not have to come up as high as it started out, it should not need energy for that. It only needs energy to overcome the friction, and for travel through the underwater bit. I have no idea how big/small the internal radius is, but I'd think it would be fairly big. Because sometimes things pass sideways. I'll have to think it over: either a lot of water, or something pressurizing the water-flow. Cause you need the momentum.
With an ideal toilet, you wouldn't need a second flush for the excessive waste after Christmas and other feastivities. One flush fits all.
Fresh water is cheap and plentiful in the majority of the U.S. and that's not about to change any time soon.
Same goes for oil, and yet people worry about that too. Water from rain is a fairly harmless source, mostly because man can't interfere with the production, but excessive extracting water from the ground has salinated precious soil all over the world http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soil_salination(yes, including the US). Even in the Netherlands (being wet, significantly below sea-level and rainy) fresh water is considered a precious gift, not for granted.
What we need is a no-flush frictionless system. Or at least a low-flush low-friction system.
What would the US do when they found out they used up all their fresh water? Of course: they'll have developed alternatives for it by then!
Let's be honest: a country that pays athletes millions a month, but hands out green-cards to anyone that can teach in an exact science, has to get it's priorities right.
if being a geek has really become cool, why has interest in CS as a major dropped among incoming freshmen and women are still a minority in computer and engineering fields?
I think you answered your own question. Geekdom has had an era of impopularity, whereas athleticdom was popular during those days. Now the industry/economy has come to realize that the best muscles reside between the ears, it's a desperate attempt for youth to give in to their natural geekdom, and join the CS-ranks.
The movies, the calendar: they're there because they wánt more people to enlist.
I can imagine the police wanting the data FAST as in YESTERDAY, but otoh keeping the data out of the hands of the suspect for 3 months will make a nice bit of it 'old', not really valuable anymore. After a year a lot of data would be of no use at all, imho. In the Netherlands the police arrested several people of the so-called Hofstad-group. Some of the data that they gathered from them is by looking through the emails they sent to each-other and other potential suspects. The police arrest the whole bunch and after 7, 8 weeks the question arises: where are the mentioned emails? Ooh, probably still on the server. Of Microsoft. Free Hotmail. Now, Microsoft erases all mails and locks your account after 1 month of not using it. They'll be released again shortly, I assume. Another thing: turns out that all the suspects at one time in their life have been asked by the Dutch National Security Agency to work for them. Remember the Shoebomber? Released by a Dutch judge: possession of explosives does not imply detonating it in an airplane. Guess where he was caught, explosives and all...
We have a mixed environment, with mostly W2k servers and about 800 clients, half of them Macs (10.4). Users have a user-directory on a file-server, with a roaming profile.
First time a user logs in, and starts Word, Word plants over 80 megs of fonts into the users' profile.
All 2000 users... In groups of 20 or more.
That's 1.6 gig within 10 seconds... ever heard a server choke?
And we surely enjoy storing 160 gig of MS-fonts on our raids too.

ClamXav? Worth a look, but http://www.oreillynet.com/cs/user/view/cs_msg/7191 6 not protecting Classic. More info here http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/ 24449 and don't forget to update the http://www.markallan.co.uk/clamXav/clamavEngineIns taller_0.88.zip engine. Disinfectant saved a lot of computers! (having worked as a tech, and being paid to clean out infected macs :-))

No this is not funny.
Nope, installed it on OS 9, and they now even support a Carbonised version: http://www.versiontracker.com/php/search.php?mode= basic&action=search&str=starcraft&plt%5B%5D=macosx &x=18&y=3Starcraft on versiontracker.com.
Back on topic: is Linspire localised? In all the possible dialects Korea has? That could give them one hell of an advantage.
