Also I blame microsoft for allowing worms to spread the way they do, and not offering protection to the people who need it most. I also blame bush, rainy days, and that kid who used to beat me up in middle school.

In his first few days as president, Bush ripped 1.3 trillion away from the budget surplus. The average American got about 300 dollars from this, while owners of large corporations got millions.

Clinton set aside 2.5 trillion in the surplus to account for the aging baby boomers, and when Bush was giving his speeches in 2000, he promised not to touch it.

Within the first year we went from a 5.3 trillion surplus down to 1.8 trillion. So far he has lost 9.6 trillion dollars from his "tax cuts", going from the highest surplus in history, to the highest debt in US history.

Democrats in general do not want to raise taxes, they want to get rid of all the loopholes that allow for large companies to cheat on their tax returns, which is hardly the same thing.

Cheney very clearly said in the vice debates (2004) that he wants to make the US the #1 place in the world to do business. While I do see the logic behind such a statement, I tend to disagree with it.

  16. expansion theory on Creationist Textbook Stickers Declared Unconstitutional · · Score: 1

There is a large difference. Gravity is accepted by probably about 99.9999999999% of the world.

The only people who really understand gravity are second grade teachers. Newton had some pretty messed up ideas about it, and they all come from his definition of distance. Distance is not really a tangible thing, so defining everything relitive to it is a very bad idea.

Looking at expansion theory, you can start all over, forget everything newton said, and rebuild it all on the basis that gravity is a pushing force, not a pulling force. Some things work better, but like with any theory, there are just as many holes as its alternate.

Point being that even top physicists do not understand gravity, so you really should not say that it is something that we agree upon or understand.

I learned creationism in my high school biology class, and we learned evolution, and a few other things.

I think expansion theory should be taught in physics classrooms along side with the classical pulling interpretation. The thing I always hated about physics is that physics books tend to teach everything as fact, when noone really knows what is going on.

There is a difference between me allowing n users to upload a given movie from me, and trying to sell it. The point where I draw the line is when money comes into play.

Also the main point was the misrepresentation of the product. When I download a movie, I dont rename it "The Dean Movie" and mess with all the credits.

I am more than happy to give out any of the movies, music, paintings, or code that I have worked on over the years, but if someone were pretend it was thiers and sell it to make money, that is fraud.

Remember that copyright law was invented to reward innovation, and make sure everyone got what they deserved, not as a tool to lock down information markets.

  22. drivers on What's Wrong with Unix? · · Score: 1

The only thing that I have cared about in any operating systems is that the drivers work. Back when I used windows I had problems all the time even getting the simplest devices to do what I wanted them to. I use linux now becasue of the dynamic module system, and the wide variety of supported hardware. Also since its all open source, I can write my own, or modify existing ones if my devices don't work right.

Even though I am now comfortable with the way the linux kernel works, I would totally start messing with BSD or any other open source operating systems if someone could properly reverse engineer modern video cards. Many people dont seem to realize this, but all of that pretty stuff in OSX doesnt use up any CPU or ram, because increasingly many the affects are done of the card.

I realize that x.org itself has leaps and bounds to go before it can even take advantage of hardware accelerated opengl calls, but getting better hardware acceleration support should be top priority for open source operating systems right now.
