Just out of curiosity, where was your discman made, was it made in Japan or China?
I think the real problem is most people are so concerened about saving a couple bucks when they buy it only to have to buy a replacement later on. We trully are living in the "throw-away" society. Quality is just another buzzword in advertising anymore, it doesn't actually mean anything.
Not to troll here, but the quality of most manufactured goods in China SUCK unless the manufacturer actually forces them to do a good job. Maybe that's just my experience though, YMMV
Uh, you don't even have to RTFA to find out that Reznor didn't use GarageBand to create the track. It says right in the blurb that the garageband tracks were exported from the ProTools project they used to create the track. GarageBand is a lot less powerful, but a lot more accessible to the common user, so thus GarageBand it is.
Besides being American
You ever been to a movie theatre in Japan?
Or ever bought a Japanese PC?
Pretty much all there is nowadays are American films, all PCs come with Windows, an American OS, the console being American had NOTHING to do with it's sales!
It's incredibly hard to find, but you should try tactics ogre for the playstation, IMHO an even better tactical game than FF Tactics. You can also pick up a version of the game for the gba. Well, it's a different game, but the art style is pretty identical, the story almost as equally epic(and there are actually multiple endings to each of the games), but the gameplay is a bit different.
While your goals are admirable, I don't really know how effective your plan will be. There are already plenty of way around the so called "great firewall of China". People who really want the information probably can get access to it if they are savvy enough. The firewall blocks the casual user, ie most people. If people have to clear a significant hurdle just to get information that they may not really even be all that passionate about at the moment, then honestly they probably won't bother. Plus you have the whole concept of fear and the government doing "whats best for the people".
FInally, remember that while home pc use is gaining traction in China, an overwhelming majority still only have access at internet cafes, which are patroled by police looking for questionable content......
It's strange though, if you go to UPS's tracking site, you have to check a box saying that you agree to the "terms and conditions", but you don't need to do so when you google....strange....
Obviously municipal wi-fi isn't as "free" as it seems to be, it requires tax money to build and maintain it. However, unlike the federal government, a lot of states and local municipalities have a "flat tax" meaning everyone pays the same percentage of their income to the local municipality. So what? It means that people who cannot afford to buy laptops with wireless internet access still have to pay for it. Maybe if we could close the so called "digital divide" it would be a good idea, but until then, provided a private company is willing to sell large scale wireless access, I think that the company is the better choice.
THe mini's don't have gigabit ethernet, meaning they are going to waste a lot more cpu in communication, even for small data sets(IIRC, the delay is much less on gigabit then it is on normal ethernet) so the speed gains may not be as much as you would think. Furthermore, the G5 can actually use it's 64 bit integer ALUs to do 2 32 bit ops at a time(check out Apple's g5 info page, it's a pretty neat trick).
One of the shittiest things about the g5 is that it's cache is the same as the g4's 64k L1(which is standard) but only 512k L2(a lot of the higher end cpus in the x86 world have at least 1 meg). Hopefully the next g5s will have 1 meg l2 cache...
Not saying that mini-clusters are worthless, they are small and relatively low-power, but the speed differences probably will not be all that great.
The shittiest thing about Apple monitors if you don't use Apple computers is that they don't give you the option of using Applecare to extend the warranty of the monitor above the 1 year it comes with even if you want to pay extra. However if you buy an apple computer and get the applecare then the display is covered for free. If you are planning on doing this it almost makes sense to buy 2 minis with your display, get the applecare, and then chuck the minis on ebay for close to what you paid for them. Seems a bit excessive though just to get a 3 year(industry standard really) warranty on your monitor....

I saw something at Best Buy the other day that really stopped me in my tracks: A refridgerator with a television built in. I thought to myself, "Who the fuck watches television to the point that they need one on their fridge?" And yet there it was, manufactured by LG(Koreans taking us down!). Now, I'm not saying that TV is totally worthless, I personally enjoy the Daily Show and South Park, but I think Americans are way too addicted to the television....it's time to back away before it's too late....

Who is this Virgina you speak of? Is she some type of robot virgin? If so, where can I find her?
No, JAVA itself has never been an interpreted language. The Java program you write is in fact compiled, but not to native code. It's compiled to bytecode for the Java Virtual Machine, which is a stack machine(not too many physical stack machines exist nowadays, but hey, it seemed good at the time). The bytecode then can be compiled into native format as it runs inside the JVM.
In the US, undergrads have complete rights to whatever they create(provided they actually created it) because they paid the tuition to go to the school. However, most grad students who are given a tuition waiver and a stipend have to sign an agreement that basically states whatever IP they create during their time at the univerisity belongs to the university, sucky tradeoff, but when has grad life ever been glorious?
Do you actually find the swiss army functions useful? I looked on thinkgeek for it, but there seems to be hardly any actual tools on it, just the bare bones essentials(btw, what kind of screwdrivers does it have?) Now compare it to a lot of the other non-usb knives, and it doesn't look all that great... Let me know what you think of it.
Yeah, but you can do this without free wi-fi, just make a well....LAN(LOCAL area network). You can easily make a laptop a router or just buy a router with a decent broadcast range. Going through the internet seems a bit wasteful to communicate with someone who is 4 feet from you...
