    It has been proven beyond a *reasonable* doubt.

    The reason banning CFC's was so easy was because it was a relatively small target, and replacement technology was almost immediately available.

    The reason there is so much noise about climate is because it affects *everything* and there is no cut and dried solution available.  Entrenched interests have been pouring money into FUD on the scientists themselves for years for that reason.  And because they are suicidal, apparently...

    One of the  Democrat's huge advantages last election was that they apparently could hire competent software development teams.

    If  you've ever been involved in software development, you know how rare this is.

    The Republican software never worked properly.  Why would you give away that advantage?

    I think your point of view is more reasonable, but still unreasonable (as my blog title would indicate).

    These works are our culture--and they need to be freed *much* sooner than 50 years under any circumstances.

    Personally, I also think your system is too complex.  I think it would be simpler to simply expand fair use to include any non-commercial use.  That also narrows the targets for lawyers to people who are actually using a work to make money without authorization--as opposed to, you know, everybody.

    Piracy for no profit would still be illegal under your plan, which is what I think makes it untenable.

    I seem to recall the guy being hailed as a "hero" in the mainstream media.

    It would not be appropriate to shower more praise on him, because that really would not be neutral.  But "declined to focus" I don't think is true, either.

    Wouldn't it be an even better idea to allow subscribers to see all the movies they want?  a) it sounds like a better deal for potential customers and b) they are still likely to purchase overpriced refreshments, which is the real cash cow of a movie theater.

    Not to mention not having to track who has seen what.

    Don't be so negative.  They can--and will--be defeated.  It's only a matter of time.

    We would just prefer it not be a thousand years.

    But I suspect it will be much shorter than that.  The younger generation is growing up with a contempt for them.
